Request for Audio/Video Decrypting How-to

I've seen the how-to threads regarding creating audio and video distortions (great work btw), but has anyone posted a how-to regarding clearing up distortions? Ive downloaded Audacity and a few other audio programs, and toyed with them, but Im not sure EXACTLY how to use them to clean the audio up. To be honest, Im not sure if there is anything in the audio Ive been working with. This is more of a "for future reference" kind of thing.

If this question has been asked before, I apologize, and Mods feel free to delete this post.

If not, could somebody with experience give us a how-to? I feel that this would be a great resource for the community here.

I use Audacity to clean up audio. I'm not very skilled at it, but for smaller-scale distortion I can just select a second or so of distortion without voice behind it, and use the "Generate Noise Profile" function on the Noise Removal prompt, and then run the Noise Removal prompt with the whole audio clip selected.

Works for simpler stuff.

for audacity, noise removal's typically the only thing you'll need. there's instances where you'll need to change the speed or pitch as well. (audacity is free btw which is a major plus)

audacity's awesome because it's pretty beginner friendly (especially for just decoding audio). even if you have no idea what you're doing it's still possible to figure it out.

as for a "how-to", you'd honestly learn just as much in the same amount of time just fooling around with it yourself. i'd suggest taking the audio from something that's already been decoded and try decoding it yourself.

After you've removed noise using the aforementioned method, under the effects menu, there should be a plugin called "clip fix." Square wave distortion, or "clipping" occurs when the sample is above the volume threshold and the computer compensates by chopping off the peaks (don't be offended if you already know what clipping is, it's just better safe than sorry). This is what makes entry ##### so hard to make out.
You'll have to fine tune clip fix's settings to fit the sample you're using, but it's pretty easy.
After that, you can use "change pitch" and "reverse" if necessary.
If it still sounds a little muffled, open up the equalizer and boost the middle frequencies.
That should just about take care of it.

Look through my channel for any "decoded" videos.
