[META] No, get this through YOUR heads...

Quote:

Rowen: Traditional ARG philosophy: Post everything you find in a neat orderly fashion onto a message board for other players, so no one is left behind. Great idea... if they were playing a game. Too bad the poor fools haven't caught onto the fact that this isn't a game. Maybe they should re-name their website ....

I know you're reading this... But get this through YOUR heads...

Unfiction is off limits.

Period.

End of story.

Thems the rules and you don't get to brake them.

You want to keep playing? Follow them.

Let me expand on this...

When we play, we end up giving you a lot of personal information sight unseen.

This is our place, where we get to talk and feel safe.

If you can't respect that... Well... Then we're all wasting our time with you.

IU is annother story. The rules are different there. And I suspect they are the way they are there because of the rules that we have here.

And I think it's a good thing.

Totally agree. Players MUST have a forum where they can discuss things without fear of being overheard by in-game characters. The PM's monitor the forums, thats fine, we accept that (and I think its a good idea) but it must not be used for in-game purposes. Same goes with IRC (on the "offical" channel anyways). When we were chatting with CyberStrike I wanted to throw out ideas to the others about what to ask him, but couldn't, since he was right there in the channel with us.

I understand that PM's want to push the envelope, expand the horizons of the ARG genre. But I feel having UF out of game is critical.

I've invested a lot of my personal time and energy playing and supporting this game, and so far, its been really great. I think the people who aren't playing this game (for whatever reason) are missing out on something really fun and unique. But if this nonsense doesn't stop, I think i might have to call it quits for this game. I can't support PM's who don't support the community, and that includes honoring the communities wishes.

Ah yes. I have an idea. At least for the issue with the chat room.

Certainly, the PMs will want to go where we usually are.

So I suggest we, the players, make a second room that we all join when an ingame character enters our room,

And I suggest we all use

/join #nonoroom

Very Happy

Not that we leave your normal room, just that we open a second room where we can give eachother ideas on what to say in the room with the character.

I agree with everything you have both said here. There is no way we should feel forced to not post information in a clear and detailed manner on here. It's bad enough that we already feel like we have to post information about certain plot threads over on IU only. Some players might never end up getting to see that stuff because it's not posted here, and I think it's a damn shame.

ARGs are all about sharing information, and while I totally appreciate that the PMs are trying to give us that TINAG feeling, we shouldn't let it stop us doing that. I really have enjoyed Gateway a lot. But this sort of thing makes that uneasy feeling that has been there in the back of my head for a wee while now much stronger.

I suggest that all we can do is continue as we were. If the story continues to go along the lines of 'X was posted in UF so the bad guys got to see it and did Y' then forget it, you've lost me. IU is the only place that can be in any sense in-game, and it's hidden from 'the bad guys' anyway. So think of another route to go down, please, or you'll lose a big chunk of your player base Rolling Eyes I'm sure there are plenty of other ways that Shadown et al can gain the necessary information about our investigations to advance the plot without bringing UF into it.

(Sorry, but I'm mad right now. I really have deeply enjoyed your game thus far, and I don't want to stop playing. But if you wanted an in-game board you should have made your own, and then you could have made your own rules. UF is owned by other people, and they make the rules here.)

Ok, having slept on this, I've decided what I'm going to do.

I'm going to continue to use UF just as we have been ie treating it as out of game. That means posting everything and discussing freely. Also ignoring any in-game references to UF. If this negatively affects the game (ie we lose because something gets posted to UF that was supposed to be kept hidden from in-game characters), so be it.

I'm enjoying the game too much to let something like this get in the way. I hope the rest of you do the same.

Excuse us for ripping down the curtain for a second. After noticing this thread, we believe it necessary to do so.

We recommend, as the PG team, that you should continue doing as you have on these forums. There is no "winning" and "losing". There is a story, and it shall be told either way.

Your moderator, Stormalong, is right. Keep proceeding on as you have. We will also take the moment to notify you that nothing exceedingly bad can happen to your investigation from something being posted to these forums.

Thank you for your time. *Pins back up their curtain*

Sincerely,
The PM Team of Project Gateway

OK, I read this thread before any of the others and was completely confused as to where the Rowen quote was coming form. It's from this thread. Thanks, carry on. Very Happy
