People for the few that don't go on SM forums, we made a thread for that movie, and we all agree it's B.S.

Really guys? It seems really fake to me. Looks like they just used another movie site (I'm thinking Breaking Dawn for some reason) and just copied and pasted the words. As it stands, there's no imbd page, no marketing campaign, no knowledge about any directors, actors or anyone involved, no evidence of an ARG, and no other related things when it's google searched. The site just appeared one day. Hell, maybe it's someone's prententious amateur Slendyfilm. *shrug*

I mean, I could be wrong, sure. But why is everyone so quick to assume this is a thing? This is Unfiction! Trust no one! xD

This. Also, Victor Surge has this on his deviantART page: "Just as as a general note. I am not given out any specific permissions to write stories about Slender Man (apart from for your own pleasure for yourself/friends) for very good reasons that I cannot discuss.

Note: This also includes movies/television, etc."

If the movie site had called it anything but straight-up "Slender Man", I would think that maybe they're just stealing the idea and not the name. But since they're using the name, which Victor Surge hasn't given out rights to... yeah, pretty sure it's not legit.

1. I highly doubt rights are needed. Surely he hasn't copyrighted the concept?
2. The creators of Marble Hornets are profiting from the concept.

No one owns Slenderman rights. That's the sad truth--Hollywood could rape Slenderman into profitdom if they wanted to.

Mate, while I admire your passion, I'm not sure 'rape' is the right word to use. 'Cash in' or exploit might be a better phrases to use.

Surely the rights would lie with the original artist, though? (And surely he or she would get a cut of the Marble Hornets DVD sales?)

Creative writing. Rape is described to mean to take by force in some way. They're taking a being and forcing it into their agenda to make money. They are figuratively raping Slendy for their own profit.

But the word does have a specific connotation regarding a particular violation of a person - not at all appropriate when discussing a character being commercialised for Hollywood.

I can't help that you are offended by this word, but I can promise you it has nothing to do with that.

Given the strength of many recent horror movies - in my opinion - Paranormal Activity, The Last Exorcism (a bit preachy for my taste, but heh) (and from what I've heard) Insidious, there's a good chance that an adaptation could be good. Horror seems to be undergoing a nice return to form at the moment, returning to genuine chills rather then bizarre perverse violence.

Given the popularity of Paranormal Activity and the way that the sequels have been treated (not without their flaws, particularly being sequels to a film which didn't need a sequel) retaining the atmosphere and understanding the mechanics of what made the original film work (as opposed to Blair Witch 2), it seems more than likely that studios would get what makes Marble Hornets work, rather than ruin it.

So, I do have some hope for a Hollywood adaptation, if it ever occurs.

Hey Punxtr, I didn't mean to single you out or anything...it's just, yeah, I do have objections to that word being used like that.
