I'm gonna side with Kona on this one; Diana was keeping something secret from Dale, and she may have confided in Bruce. Was it an affair, which led to her getting pregnant? We may never know unless Bruce spills the beans, or we get access to those tantalizing hosipital records.

As far as the Threat letter goes, it appears that Bruce is completely discounting it, no matter what we say. It's probably so far out-of-game that the PM's have no way to respond to it, so they have to ignore it.

Re: Diana, I still have an unanswered letter to Kendra about the bill. What it could represent in general or, if she's willing, what it means specifically.

Edit: No help from her on that one.

From raynardm over on CD:

Quote:
Someone sent a card to bruce and hge finally responded. hmph.

His response.

Dear Po:

Interesting view -- but here's two opposing thoughts --

Silence is golden. My mother used to tell me that; didn't yours? (She probably told you not to spread malicious gossip with no proof, too, but it's obvious that one didn't take).

and then there's this one that I always liked:

It is better to keep silent, and be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Your 'Friend'

me thinks he does not take this seriously. he also thinks he is clever, but not necessarily so. I hate to say it, but his response is a bit, how do you say? wussy?

lol. I am sure he wil get a response soon...

I love the good cop - bad cop approach dealing with Bruce. Kona is playing the "good" cop, everyone else dealing with Bruce is the "bad" cop.

It was suggested that we try to get a picture of Angie, take the Bruce photos that Kona received, PhotoShop them onto some cheap porn, and send the results to Don Marzano.

This would probably be so out-of-game that the PM's head(s) would explode.

Except, of course, that the picture of you as a woman might be Photoshopped... Confused

Hope that my revelation hasn't cooled our friendship. Perhaps some lucky fellow out in Vegas has burst upon the scene and claimed your heart -- or maybe like me you've just been too busy at work to think about taking the time to compose a mail. In either event, I hope to hear from you again soon.

Dear Heather:

So glad (and sorry, too) that it's work that has been keeping you from writing. And sadly, I know just how the rat race can grab all of us. I've been scrambling around traveling quite a bit these past few weeks trying to line up additional business to cushion the impact of weaning AF from 'the Don'.

Angie and I hadn't been communicating, either, but that too appears work
related. It sounds like there's a chance she might be inviting me over for a home cooked meal sometime this week. That will give me a chance to touch base with her both personally, and about whatever has been happening at Empty Threats with the family as they get ready to face the Grand Jury.

So Dale is having a sit-down with Don Marzano himself? Geez, even the Don's talking in Latin now -- what the heck does hoc voluerunt mean (or don't I want to know?). Although of all of them I would least suspect Marzano pere' of doing something hasty and unwise, I still hope Dale's thought this thing through. He'd make a lovely star witness for the prosecution, and the Don has to realize that too. Let Dale know that I'd help him with this if he'd let me -- as you know, I've already been willing to put myself out on this limb alone.

Take care of yourself, and find time for a little bit of fun . . .

Bruce

Bruce and the Meeting

Heather:

Well, I thought you should know in case you need to send out an APB for me in a few hours -- I am going to Emptythreats later today, but not under the pretense we were talking about. Last night after I sent that mail, I got a phone call -- from an old friend. He appears to have had a change of heart about the things he said that so disturbed me. He basically apologized for having doubted my intentions, and said that they stemmed from his not having been himself. Frankly, I wonder whether it's completely true -- this reconciliation may have begun more because he looked around and figured out that weren't a lot of ports he could turn to against this storm. However, it's a start -- which is what I've been hoping for for the past several weeks.

I'm not quite sure what pitch Dale is hoping to make to Don Marzano, but it won't be the first time that I've followed his lead into a meeting and trusted him to find the approach that would work. And he doesn't realize yet that we have one extra ally in Angie -- that's something I'm saving as a hole card myself. He's supposed to be here in a little while, and then we'll drive over in tandem. Wish us luck, and all I can tell you is I hope I'll be able to report back later on what happened . . .

Bruce

P.S. -- I've pretty much confirmed that Dale does not have any living family remaining. As far as Diana goes, her parents and younger sister are both alive -- but I hope you'll forgive me for not releasing their names. In light of the tragedy, I don't think any of them would feel comfortable raking thru the coals of Diana's life with strangers -- and to be blunt, some of your fellow investigators can be pretty obnoxious in their questioning (not to mention whoever this Posession910 is -- I certainly wouldn't wish such an albatross around anyone's neck).

Heather:

I'm back at home. I'm alive . . . Dale's alive. That's the good news. I think it's safe to say that the meeting did not go as Dale planned or I expected. Having talked with Angie, I'm thinking that there is a chance that everything I have to tell you won't be complete news to you. I'm not surprised that Dale hasn't been in touch -- I imagine he's weighing whether the lot of you would believe you if he told you that everything is alright now, and that your investigations should end.

But I'm digressing before I start, and that's no help. Dale and my sitdown with the Don didn't go as Dale and I had talked about beforehand. We'd talked through a way in which we thought we could use Dale's insurance monies to pay off his debt to the Marzano's, and in the process protect both you and my business from any possible repercussions. Only it turned out that the Don didn't care a rodent's hind end about Dale's debt . . . or even about the on-going grand jury investigation. In fact, he talked about the grand jury being a done deal -- a deal in which Mayor Dobbs and his Council buddies may be being set up as fall guys.

Instead, Don Marzano invited in two guys who I'd never seen before, but from
Dale's reaction (and the descriptions I've heard from you folks over the past two months) as the 'dead eyes'. The Don described them as his business associates, and said that making the 'people'(?) the 'dead eyes' worked for happy was his priority. Now understand -- til six days ago, I didn't believe these guys existed. Now, it was clear that not only did Marzano know of their existence, but that they were worthy of his 'respect'. Typically, respect translates to power. Are they the source of his confidence about the grand jury? Hell, are they the source of the family's mob power -- the brains behind the muscle, so to speak? I don't know that either is true . . . but I don't know that it's false, either.

Second shock (to me) . . . What Don wants from Dale is the Wish. Yeah, the same Wish I've been describing as a delusion you were all supporting Dale in. Alright, I was wrong. Sue me for thinking the world was more or less like we all grow up being taught it is. Apparently, he lives and breathes . . . and is somehow interfering in the plans of the Don and the 'dead eyes'. Don wants Dale to find him, and bring him in. He also wants Dale to bring him a whole bunch of stuff that I guess the Wish or somebody like him gave to Dale. Some disc, and a package full of other stuff. Dale didn't seem to even know where this stuff all is. I certainly don't either.

Bruce

Heather:

Zero information to report here. As time passes, Dale appears to be coming to his senses. Nothing can be gained by dragging him back into the period in his life where this all seemed real.

Although your case is over, I have enjoyed our conversations together immensely. Nothing would please me more than if you stayed in touch.
Definitely keep me in your thoughts.

Bruce

Heather:

Sounds like a lovely meal. Using sage can really bring out the flavor in the meat. Perhaps a touch of tarragon as well? My wineseller could probably come up with a lovely wine to top it off.

Bruce

P.S. -- I really must have Barry sent to bed without supper and take away his Internet privileges for a week. He was supposed to have that new website of the month up three weeks ago. For a while, there was supposed to be some sort of controversy about a domain name, but I thought all that was resolved.
If this keeps up, I'm going to actually have to do some work around here.

It's coming -- this time for sure Smile Barry promises that the site will be up within 'hours' (that means days, but after weeks of delays, it's something). I think you'll find it quite a radical departure from some of our other clientele.
