Trout me if you will, but I'm too lazy to read the last five pages. However, has no one suggested that the backup that J^2 said he had wasn't a bluff, but Gladys? That would make a lot of sense to me. I don't think James James is stupid enough to go into a situation alone, it's just his backup never showed up. It seems no one has considered that (or y'all have dismissed it for some strange reason) and it's definitely worth considering.

In any case, trout away.

As you wish. Trout
Trout is the inescapable destiny of those who are "too lazy to read the last five pages." There's some trout in the puzzles forum near the end of a topic that's forty-plus pages long. I'm willing to forgive that. But you can't read a mere five pages?
The rules of the forum state that if I use the trout icon, I must supplement it with a link to where this info has been previously posted...but you don't need a link. You already know where the info is. You were just too lazy.

Could someone please just explain to me who Monster Ann is? For some reason this name rings no bells at all.

It was first mentioned in the WAV where Jersay and Jan get together. Monster Ann is Thin Kinkle's boss, according to information "borrowed" by Durga.

I'd just like to say that I agree with the idea that Gladys is somehow involved with Monster Anne. It sounds interesting to me that she is into recruiting Jan, esp since she sends her to the club/bar/hangout of Thin (who seems to also be a 1.1) and since she seems to know the other "dweeb" kid 1.1 at the funeral.

Maybe she's a talent scout. Very Happy

Now that I think about it, I do have a problem with Thin being a 1.1. He says that he's 30. If Jan is 18, doesn't that make him a tad too old to be a 1.1 unless his parents had him quite early and Jans had her quite late?

Did you listen to the new audio files
Monster Ann != Gladys
Thin = dead

So for the most part, ,this thread is dead.

In "going_down", "babysitter" and "bedtime" Monster Ann and Gladys are in the same room together. Thus Gladys != Monster Ann. The earlier spec in this thread could still have Gladys as a bad guy on Monster Ann's side, but there is certainly no support for that in this week's .wavs, and all of Gladys' behavior this week would be consistent with the model that she is on Jan's side. Could be a plot twist to set us up for a big disappointment in future weeks. But as a previous strong proponent of the "evil Gladys", while I still keep it it mind, I can't say that it is really supported by the .wavs anymore.

I am still really bothered by how easily J^2 went down, and hope to see an explanation of that somewhere.

It's not that difficult to believe that JJ could have so easily been defeated. Jim was out of his prime; he hadn't been trainning, wasn't nearly as juiced as a SPARTAN-II, went in alone, and was psychologically stressed 'cause Jan was in danger. He didn't even have *guns*! Not to mention body armor. SPARTANs get their terrifying invulnerabilty from their armor. Otherwise, they're just as soft and squishy as the rest of us.

Not to mention he was literally tied down, surrounded, pistolwhipped, and finally was shot *in the head* three times at point blank range. MJOLNIR armor would be hard pressed to deflect three unshielded, pointblank rounds from an M6, much less a human skull. Thick, yes, but not bullet proof.

And, come on, people. Quit harping on the whole Monster Ann = Gladys thing. If it existed, we would have known about it. Durga's information gathering abilities are staggering, and if there was even so much as a single newspaper clipping or a police report or *anything* Durga would have known. And if she knew, she would have told Jersey/Jan. She takes care of her own, remember?

Sorry if this is a little rant-ish, but the wild SPEC ya'll can generate and then latch onto can get a bit.....irritating.

unless.... [wild spec]

the monster ann with Thin was a cover! Surprised Gladys really IS Monster Ann, but knowing J&G were going to kill Thin/Ann, she had to stay hidden, so she conned another woman into posing as Ann! That's it! I've solved it!!! muahahah!

/overthetop

yeah, no, monster ann != gladys

sorry if it bothers you, smoke Very Happy
we latch on because we are trying to fill in gaps that did not seem to add up in the story, even if it WAS wild... it was at least believable. Even though we are proven wrong, SPEC is part of what makes the game great, and without some wild SPEC's, it would really slow the progress down of the game. Anyhow, a little wild SPEC now and then is good. Wink

Oh, I agree. But the SPEC was so wild as to be unbelieveable. If Durga can win elections, shunt billions of dollars into accounts, ruin lives with a speed and efficiency that would make Nazis whistle in appreciation, all in the space of a heartbeat, how could Gladys *possibly* ever hope to hide a secret identity?

I don't mind wild SPEC; it's fun and a great way to mess around. This just went so counter to the established rules that it seemed silly to continue down that path as a *logical* step in the evolution of the story.

as was mentioned in the spec, it did seem at least remotely possible because Kamal was able to hide from her by going offline, and it would make sense for a thug to make themselves as invisible as possible. Regardless, I am glad we were wrong on this. Very Happy

hmm.........I see your point.

But we are still hearing from Kamal. Talented as he is, he just can't compete with such a determined sister/AI/psychopath. Smile
