http://www.theseventhsons.com/literal.html -- SOLVED

Idran discovered that if you break the entire message up in to 3x3 squares, and read them in a spiraling order, similar to the top and bottom of the picture, you get a message. He found all of the text, and I added coherent punctuation.

One by one Apollo slew the sons of Niobe until only the youngest, Ilioneus, remained. By now Apollo's anger had abated, and his lust for killing subsided. Mortal Niobe had dared compare herself to Apollos godly mother. Before he could stop his arrow flew, but he pulled his arrow aside at the last moment. We are the shepherds, the cullers of herds, the seven. thosedenthefoevmawlenhsesesthl spiraling

Varin: Yeah, that's how I got it. I didn't include the "the's" mainly because I didn't think to count them at the time. :D

Is this really unsolved? I think the fact that it yields "NAME IS SEVEN" is more than coincidence. I believe this will be the username on the 'secure' login page...

The letter X figures prominently in each line of the left path - perhaps its location in the line, or the word in which it appears, is important?

But, we still have no idea where this page leads to... sph that is...

I'll look into the Xs, I hadn't noticed there was one in each line...

Another insight about the spiraling puzzle:

Looking at the rightpath.html file, the only thing that sticks out at me is that the words are arranged on the page such that they sorta look like a large R. Maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see, but clearly the words are placed in their configuration for a reason because they are explicitly positioned on the page...

for leftpath.html
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
there is an "x" in every single line. if you line them up like so:
Code:
               *    |
        Iloveasharpaxe
    IdontstressIrelax
      Itwasanicenewexhibit
        Heincurredmaximumdebt
   Fivecomesbeforesix
         Wasitagoodexchange
     Sheisaregularfixturehere
 BluewasPaulBunyonsox
Thesemeasuresappearextreme
      Itcamewithdeluxeoptions
      Icarriedfiveboxes
  Didyouevercatchafox
               *    |

You get "hieroglyphic" from top to bottem where I marked with the stars. There's no hieroglyphic.html page so I suspect this may be to use in conjunction with the solve from rightpath.html

I'm working on the theory that the words in the rightpath describe hieroglyphs, and that the letters these glyphs represent will form a word, or when combined describe some person.

Unfortunatly the toucan is a bird from central america, not very likely the egyptians had a glyph for them. On the other hand, maybe the mayans, aztecs or olmecs did?

Just asked my girlfriend to take a quick look at it as shes doing Egyptology at Liverpool Uni.

There are two words which would be reprisented by hieroglyphs but the rest are just "abstract ideas" so they wouldnt have a glyph on there own, but could be formed out of a few.

On rightpath.html, ElGameR noticed that pairs of words share common fragments that appear at either the beginning or end of each word:

home + omen
toucan + candle
suicide + idea
many + anywhere
doctor + tornado

ome can ide any tor

My guess is that the words should be lined up vertically based on this hint (similar to leftpath.html), or the common (or non-common) letters should be combined somehow...

Note how all these fragments are Consonant-Vowel-Consonant (CVC) or Vowel-Consonant-Vowel (VCV).

Then look at things like http://www.highspeedplus.com/~edonon/Egyptian.htm
and http://www.highspeedplus.com/~edonon/saharan.htm

I'm not awake enough yet to do any actual solving Coffee and I might be on the wrong trail again Screwy
