I think that at every Fibonacci number, a letter is quickly uttered.

I think you are right. It makes it very difficult to cut in audacity, as every time you cut out a section, it just joins up, screwing up the numbering. We need something a little more advanced I feel.

Well anyway it is nearly 4 am for me, so I think I should hey. Don't solve it all without me! Razz

I tried cut and paste of the 1st, 1st, 2nd, etc -- listened the bits I cut and merged together - nothing -- listened to what was remaining - nothing.

If and when I could ever figure it out - someone here will probably have the next five solved.

I did get the semaphore one on my own then came here and saw everyone else three stages ahead.

Thanks to all who are helping me move along - at least I'm enjoying being berated by the cool host each time I ask for a hint.

In audacity ctrl+l will silence a selection keeping the track intact if that will help

I can't get it accurately enough, but the first bit I think is made up from the beginning and the end of the first section, hence 'first, first'.

I think I'm done for the night... which probably means that you guys will be finished when my slumber is concluded. Oh, well. I'm glad to have been a part of one from near the beginning.

It was nice working with everybody that participated... Except for Tharol... awkward character, that one.

Same conclusion. The letters for the password begin at 5 seconds, I believe. So, 5,8,13,21,34.

Well I just got something that sounded like heavy laughter and the word hummingbird. So I tried it but didn't work.

Think it's time for me to quit too - got a bunch of people here wondering what's wrong with me as it is.

3-4 Solved

The unit of measure is not 1 second.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you use 1/4 second units the starting points of each piece of the audio are at 0, .25, .75, 1.5, 2.75, 4.75, 8.0, 13.25 and 21.75. The complete message says "the password is oregano." The last three 1/4 second long pieces make up the password if you want to just copy and paste those to a new track and listen.

Ok then, 4-1

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You open it in a hex editor program and delete the XL where it says ROFLXL, which gives us the proper name, which is ROFL. This, when played, (it has to be imported as raw data in to audacity), gives us the password 'kingdom'.

And next to 4-2

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We have a slow scan television signal. Download this little program http://users.belgacom.net/hamradio/rxsstv.htm and run the file through it. You do this by placing your mic in front of your speakers, a nigh on impossible task for this laptop, so after some jury rigging, I managed to make it work. The program should start automatically upon hearing the start tone. The image produced, is thus:

Thereby giving us the next password, noknees.

First time using SSTV! Awesome! 4.2 answer beneath the cut.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4.2 - it reads PASS: NOKNEES

For 4.3, to save time, I've decoded the title:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
invert_me_please -- so presumably, we're supposed to reverse the track before running it through the hex editor...?

This is probably the most user-friendly introduction to audio ciphers I've come across -- quite impressed.
