When Cardui contacted us following Vlad's crash we were informed that she was in India.

Could this be how those letters are encoded and what the hamster wheels refer to? (I don't have time to look into it right now, but just tossing it up there if anyone is there...)

I didn't see this posted, so I'll go ahead and put it up here. I got this email last night:
Quote:
Once upon a time, it matters little when, and in stalwart England,
it matters little where, a fierce battle was fought...

Cardui suffers. She once helped me. I therefore help you.
Balance is restored? Read her words now - I cannot tell you how to unravel Turing's enigma, as the wheels turn too quick for me, his birth spelling out much this year.
Yet this image-shortcut will allow you access to her words as well.
One word.
Just one.

SV

Hidden in the email was this:
Quote:
It is an extraordinary thing, that knowledge of kind to kind.

There was a picture as well and I have attached it to this post. Just in case you want to look this stuff up for yourself, in spoilers are both the information I found from the email and the picture.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Quote:
Once upon a time, it matters little when, and in stalwart England, it matters little where, a fierce battle was fought...

That particular piece is from The Battle of Life by Charles Dickens.

Although I cannot identify the image behind it at the moment, perhaps someone else can, the text goes as follows:
Quote:
'It's very plain that the old man and I shall remain at daggers drawn until the end of our lives, and that I have nothing to expect from him. You see that, I suppose?' 'A bat might see that, with the sun shining,'

This is a quote from chapter 7 of The Old Curiosity Shop, also by Charles Dickens.

As for the updates Lystella posted, I don't have much time to look into it now, but with his reference to a Roman and the "one word to unlock" makes me think of a keyed Caesar cipher. Dunno

Latent Moths, you said there was a password protected document that you received in an email from Claire? Can you post that please?

I also got an e-mail informing me that Cardui's location has changed.

Answers a lot, but we still need the code to access the Interception doc. There was some stuff in the original e-mail, and then what Sergei gave us....

Alright, so I still don't have the code, but I was able to pull out a few pieces of well... things.

"Her wings are obsidian or tecpatl (flint) knife tipped"
"In folklore, bats are sometimes called "black butterflies"

Quote:
'You'll tell a different story of this one, before a very long time is over,' said his companion, drawing his chair to the table. 'You saw my sister Nell?'

'What about her?' returned Dick.

'She has a pretty face, has she not?'

'Why, certainly,'
...
'A bat might see that, with the sun shining,' said Dick.

'It's equally plain that the money which the old flint--rot him--first taught me to expect that I should share with her at his death, will all be hers, is it not?'

'I should said it was,' replied Dick; 'unless the way in which I put the case to him, made an impression. It may have done so. It was powerful, Fred. 'Here is a jolly old grandfather'--that was strong, I thought--very friendly and natural. Did it strike you in that way?'

It didn't strike him,' returned the other, 'so we needn't discuss it. Now look here. Nell is nearly fourteen.'

Quote:
Once upon a time, it matters little when, and in stalwart England, it matters little where, a fierce battle was fought. It was fought upon a long summer day when the waving grass was green. Many a wild flower formed by the Almighty Hand to be a perfumed goblet for the dew, felt its enamelled cup filled high with blood that day, and shrinking dropped. Many an insect deriving its delicate colour from harmless leaves and herbs, was stained anew that day by dying men, and marked its frightened way with an unnatural track. The painted butterfly took blood into the air upon the edges of its wings. The stream ran red. The trodden ground became a quagmire, whence, from sullen pools collected in the prints of human feet and horses' hoofs, the one prevailing hue still lowered and glimmered at the sun.

Heaven keep us from a knowledge of the sights the moon beheld upon that field, when, coming up above the black line of distant rising- ground, softened and blurred at the edge by trees, she rose into the sky and looked upon the plain, strewn with upturned faces that had once at mothers' breasts sought mothers' eyes, or slumbered happily. Heaven keep us from a knowledge of the secrets whispered afterwards upon the tainted wind that blew across the scene of that day's work and that night's death and suffering! Many a lonely moon was bright upon the battle-ground, and many a star kept mournful watch upon it, and many a wind from every quarter of the earth blew over it, before the traces of the fight were worn away.

So just a few fragments for you all to look at. I'm going to be out this afternoon, but upon my return I intend to try a few more words.

Got it. I didn't know that the passwords were case sensitive so when I tried obsidian (days ago) and it didn't work I dismissed it.

OBSIDIAN worked though. *sigh*

Quote:
Project Circadia – Phase 2
With all thirteen treasures assigned a guardian, the next step is to ensure that all aspects of the machine can work fully. Each guardian needs to understand their roots, their genetic make-up, to fully be able to process the thoughts of their family background to be able to harness their treasure.
The main concern, of course, is when the guardians realise that their life is forfeit – that only their DNA is required and their realisations of what will become their ancestry to be terminated.
As 'Premium' describes, so we need to ensure that our own paths are kept clear and that the war effort is ensured to be contained to Turing's decision, if only 'by his bootstraps'...
The butterflies will be the best opportunity that we have of preventing Coventry – but it will be up to VS to ensure that the board is set up appropriately.
So much depends on the future and the past – we must make our actions count.
Ensure Pyrameis is well looked after – her 'education' needs to come from all of us, not just the queens.
J.

Glad I'm not a guardian. Wink

Edit: It also contained the tree diagram on this page.

Nice work ddl! \(^O^)/
Sorry I haven't been posting as much; I couldn't think of anything productive to add to what was going on lately.

New email:

Dear team,

We politely ask, therefore, that all remaining guardians - and any who wish to be appointed guardian [due to others unfortunate demise] - make themselves apparen very shortly.
Circadia is entering phase two...

Albion prevails.

http://www.universetoday.com/46228/who-discovered-pluto/

Quote:
Who discovered Pluto? That was the astronomer Clyde Tombaugh, who found Pluto on February 13, 1930.

Tombaugh worked as an astronomer at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. He was given the task of finding a trans-Neptunian object which was predicted by Percival Lowell and William Pickering – the search for Planet X. Tombaugh used a tool called a blink comparator to study two images of the same region of the sky taken several nights apart. He would display one image and then blink to the second image to see if any objects had moved from night to night.

And so on February 13, 1930, Tombaugh turned up just such an object moving at the right speed to be the unknown Planet X. The name "Pluto" was suggested by Venetia Burney, and 11-year old English school girl. Pluto was the name of the Roman god of the underworld, and Percival Lowell liked it because the first two letters started with PL, after his own initials.

The picture Vlad/Sergei gave us earlier was the picture taken on Jan. 23, but the Tombaugh didn't recognize the object in the picture as 'Planet X' until the 13 of Feb. At least, that is what I have been able to determine.

We've had an email (the one ddl posted with the hidden Turing quote at the end that included today's date) with the title C.M.R.I.P. and that same five letters in the signature of VS's latest email. My first thought was someone with the initials CM died (RIP) on this date in 1930. After a little bit of digging I found this...

Quote:
Turing's hopes and ambitions at school were raised by the close friendship he developed with a slightly older fellow student, Christopher Morcom, who was Turing's first love interest. Morcom died suddenly on 13th February 1930, only a few weeks into their last term at Sherborne, from complications of bovine tuberculosis, contracted after drinking infected cow's milk as a boy. Turing's religious faith was shattered and he became an atheist. He adopted the conviction that all phenomena, including the workings of the human brain, must be materialistic, but he still believed in the survival of the spirit after death.

Not sure if that will be helpful, but there ya go...
