I've been lurking for a good while. Thanks for the welcome!

Do you mean, is it a reference to Legitimate First?
Not exactly, but I do like me some Pratchett.

Why should tharol have all the fun?

A song to the tune of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's "Save my soul"

I watch the streets of New Jersey
for the bane of my dreams
I've seen a dozen V-blogs, run and scream
While scary people laugh, plot and scheme
I've seen tall men warp, stalking and mute
With red ties and suits, and faceless to boot
I consider myself lucky to have fallen in love
With the doctor, the nightmare, and the rivers of blood

let me know, let me know
where I can go to save their souls
let me know, let me know,
Where i can go to save their souls
Where i can go to save their souls, yeah

I had run-in with Old HABIT's ghost
I was the most-willing host.
I've seen slendy morphing, and sounding his horn
I hope to see the day the little hybrid is born
I love Vinny, jeff, steph and ev.
They were the ones to get my heart to rev
I consider myself lucky to be devoid of
The rake, The rabbits, and the rivers of blood

Let me know, Let me know,
Where i can go to save our souls,
Let me know, Let me know,
Where I can go to save our souls,
where i can go to save our souls
New Jersey, New Jersey
Where I can go to save our souls,
where i can go to save our souls-yeah

I run the streets of new jersey,
From the bane of my dreams,
I've seen strange men creepin', toying with me
with suits and red ties, as tall as a tree
I consider myself unlucky to have fallen in love
With the hybrids, the tall one, and the rivers of blood.

Let me know, Let me know,
Where i can go to save my soul,
Let me know, Let me know,
Where I can go to save my soul,
let me know, let me know
where i can go to save my soul, where i can go to save my soul,
New Jersey, New Jersey

Where I can go to save their souls,
New jersey, new jersey
where i can go to save our souls,
Where I can go to save my soul....

Right then.

Trees ahead.

Lunaticfish and I were just chatting in Angorachat about the iteration cycle and Habit's endgame.

I'll keep it sorta brief.

Habit has consistently escaped the iteration. Otherwise he wouldn't be around. The firebrand kills him.

From where I'm sitting it, everything is unfolding as it should. Everyone is fufilling their roles. But Habit has two variables in place.

The Trials and Evan/Steph's little miracle.

Put that aside and lets jump to the endgame.

Everything happens as it should. Evan betrays everyone. Vinnie get's hoisted up by his own petard. Jeff fights in vain. Right around this time, Steph gives birth to the unique Fairmount Four Lovechild(with probable Slendy insurance). Habit immediately ditches Evan before he kills them both and takes up his new home in the baby. Steph probably Padme's out. And everyone dies.

The remaining Rabbit(assuming there is just one left) is now encharged to raise Baby Habit.

Now, think back to the Corenthal papers. What did Evan's mom call him? Habit.

Iiiiiiiiiiiteeeeeraaaations, yo

Makes sense, but, if she was raped by HABIT, maybe she knew when he was possessed that it was by HABIT, or assumed HABIT was possessing him if he wasn't already.

This is the only part that I don't follow. Why does HABIT being around require him to escape the iterations? That's the whole point of the iterations... that they all return. He may remember his iterations, where the other guys don't or something along those lines, but otherwise I think he gets spun in and out of the Candleverse/Ark along with everyone else.

I would agree with Atom, but because HABIT can inHABIT other living things, he could be able to survive long past a human's normal lifespan. In fact, that may be his entire motivation for inHABITing others. I wonder if HABIT even HAS a "baseline form", or if that body died long ago and he just moves from one form to the next.

or perhaps habit isn't really part of the iteration at all. maybe he's just been around long enough to see it and take advantage of it?
man, do we have a point to the iterations? because lack of point is just killing me here. although, i suppose there needn't be one....

It's probably the old "breaking the cycle, lest futility take hold" theme.

The laws of the infinite Universe need not have a point. They are the point.

I believe the Rake is Habit's oldest shell that he left long ago.

I've been wondering what purpose or role the rake plays in all of this, and to tell you the truth that theory makes a lot of sense. A whole lot more than anything i've been able to compose myself.

I was thinking this, too.
Even more disturbing when you consider that the Rake could be the body of Evan from the Mining Town Four.

Oh that is a creepy thought. And running with that we know the Tall one has ways of keeping people alive, in this case maybe some sort of punishment?
