I agree with you, something in my head just staggers at the thought that they would put this much work into something just to get people to buy gum. I certainly haven't experienced anything of the sort before.

Well, that part of it always made sense to me. Thats the nature of marketing. If it works they pay top dollar for it.I'm not sure what they did so far worked though. They probably would have been better off doing a promotion like the South Africa one at this rate.

so the new in-store promotion points to this URL
http://soundcheck.walmart.com/risers
which has a large flash interface, but I see no place where I would enter a gum code -- and it says "maximum 3 downloads per person", so there must be a user login somewhere.

I like how their "riser" logo fits with the new gum packs, as a joint campaign. It's not going to get people to buy nearly as much gum as we bought for Icefly. (I might underestimate the market out there for music downloads, not being a user myself)

Well, I think it's worth mentioning that the RPM flavors are way better than the react flavours. hahaha Still, I guess we are still waiting on 5Gum for the next step in this, if there is one.

Another game starting?

I'm not sure how I feel about buying more packs of gum for a new game when the old game didn't send out any kind of thank you prize. Anyone else feel that way?

I haven't seen any sign of a new game yet. I thought the only lead we had was to a music download service. I saw the RPM variety on a TV commercial for the first time yesterday, but the end flashed by too quickly for me to check whether there was even a URL link on the screen.

It's only been a couple months. Patience. =)

RPM: Jon Favreau-Directed Commercial Hits the Web

word from the Wrigley newsfeed blog about RPM:
Quote:

Choose Your Energy

5® gum has always done things differently – from its name, flavors, sleek packaging and stick form, to ads rooted in intrigue, self-exploration and experimentation. As a brand that continues to push the envelope in the chewing gum category, 5 and advertising agency Energy BBDO enlisted some of the best in entertainment industry production to tell the next chapter of the brand's story in a new cinematic-quality television commercial that introduces the latest flavors from 5 gum – RPM™.

RPM is designed to let you Choose Your Energy™ with two flavors: Energizing Fruit and Relaxing Mint, both available February 2012. The RPM story is brought to life as viewers see the subject enjoying a new sense of control over his experience. For more information, check out this story in The Hollywood Reporter and watch the spot below.

The entry includes a video link to the TV commercial, as well as

I bought a pack of the energizer one about a week ago. The smell... okay, but the flavor is amusing enough. Doesn't last too long, though. About an hour, I'd say.
