Can anyone make out what the picture says in the bottom left corner? I can see the words "The Old" but I can't make out the third one.

To me it looks like it says "The Old Farmer".

It's "The Old Farm" by Lionel Barrymore. Someone on the TwitPic got the name of the painting, and I got the last name from Google.

Edit: It's on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Changing-Gold-Plated-Lionel-Barrymore-Old-Farm-Scene-Picture-/250941165526. Time to spot the differences!!

Daniel is Jay's great grand-uncle. His family line seems to have a habit of getting into supernatural trouble. In fact, the Operator is actually Jay's father after getting into a horrible accident with magic drugs.

Well, we still have no idea what the Operator is supposed to be at this point, much less where and when it originated from.
