What makes 'The Big Three' so special?

I don't mean this in a derogatory way in any sense. I'm just curious as to why people think the big three (MH, EMH, and TT, to my knowledge) are so much more popular than a lot of other series, and if they deserve to be.

Honestly, they're the BIG THREE because they were the FIRST three...meaning they are the longest running series...

If you say that's the only reason, you're being ignorant. They're also the big three because they were the ones who pioneered the medium, are arguably the best in terms of consistency since they've started when it comes to content, story, and characters, not to mention scares, (plus most of today's series and their content are based off of what they've done) and arguably have contributed the most to the Slender Man fandom since the beginning. They are three of the main reasons we have this subforum at all; they are more or less the founding fathers of the Slenderverse.

They're the longest running, most popular, and most consistent in terms of quality.

I'd like to stress that these are just my opinions, but for me what makes the big three special are these reasons...

Marble Hornets-Well obviously it's the first so it would be important no matter what, but I enjoy the mystery aspects too,Season one hooked me with the premise of watching the tapes and trying to figure what happened and it hasn't really let go since.

EverymanHybrid- I loved the fact that it was a goofier take on things with the earlier videos,by the time it got to the more serious subject matter I was already enjoying the characters and their interactions...and once subplots like the Rake and Habit, not to mention the Candle Cove stuff, came into play I just couldn't (and still can't) wait for each new update.

TribeTwelve-More than anything TribeTwelve got me with it's special effects.Yes like the other two it has a solid plot and some fun mystery aspects but it seems a bit more ambitious too, when you see Slendy it's usually with the tentaces, which look really good, and he's usually involved in some impressive scares (the airplane comes to mind).

But anyway thats my take on it...others have said that other series that come after these seem derivitive and mostly yeah thats true. I'm not knocking anyones work I enjoy pretty much all the Slendervlogs I've checked out,but between the big 3 you've got alot of the base elements of a Slenderman story covered and it's tough not to feel like you're ripping one of them off.

This, and only this. The difference between Marble Hornets (and to a lesser extent EMH and Tribe Twelve) and the rest of the series out there is that these three were original. Everything else that's been done was pioneered by these three series.

It's sort of like how Star Trek and Star Wars are the definitive sci-fi franchises of today. They are a major basis for most of what followed, have been around for a long time, and, with some exceptions (odd movies for ST, prequels for SW), are fairly good every time.

GOOD GOD! Such a hostile response to such a simple answer!

Plus, you basically just repeated what I said using fancier lingo. I said they are the big three because they were the first out there and you said they're the big three because they're pioneers...ok...cool...whatevs...

For me it's because they're more immersive. They have the most beleviable plot (esspecially MH) and they are the ones we watch, before having Unforum crush our immersion.

I agree with everything else in the thread-originality, consistent quality, etc.

But I think we ought to consider a couple of other factors.

The first thing is the large existing fanbase and awareness of these series. Most everybody starts watching Slenderseries when they hear of MH, TT or EMH. They're already well known and as a result, they spread and have a larger fanbase-their popularity is, in essence, part of what helps them be so popular and become even more popular. For example, how many of you started watching Marble Hornets before any other series (or to a lesser extent, TT or EMH)?

The other, and in my opinion more important, factor to consider, is unique elements: the series have something unique that stand out and take the series from being "good" to "fantastic". Marble Hornets is a constant mystery, and MUCH devided from the "slenderman canon"; resultingly, the mystery hasn't been solved and it results in a very distinct plot. Marble Hornets is also purely video: no other aspects, and combining this with it's seperation from other Slenderseries results in it being the most accesible series, and one of the best (if not THE best).

EverymanHybrid is a MASSIVE, engaging true to form ARG: it's a celebration of all of the creepypasta, it has a scope to it in terms of lore and plot points no other series can match. Between the Rabbits, the Caches, the fine detailing of things like the pruple tape and "bagheaded Evan", the series is the truest "ARG" of all the series. On top of this it had a novel concept and the characters are bloody brilliant, what not to love?

Tribe Twelve obviously holds the crown for special effects, but we should also consider the familiar entry style akin to Marble Hornets to ease in viewers that leads into an original plot featuring the Collective: a host of malevolent, intelligent antagonists that give a "face" (literally and figuratively) to our antagonist. This means that alongside the faceless eldritch-abomination Slenderman featured in every series, we have also have a character with a personality who speaks and,in a twisted way, we can identify with. This causes a conflict between two characters (Noah and the Observer in particular) that draws in it's viewers and produces one of the most intriguing plots of all of the Slenderseries.

Lastly, the factor many would overlook is the quality and obvious training of the filmmakers; amateur or not, the creators of all three series have a knowledge of costuming, filmography and acting other series lack. These are amatuer filmmakers who have gone to school or taken classes on how to film and act, rather then somebody who chose to make a Slenderseries purely on the basis of a Slenderseries. I'm not saying that you need to go to film school to make a good slenderseries, but it more then likely helps that they know what they're doing.

These reasons also apply to DarkHarvest and MLAndersen, the two other largest slenderseries to the point where several have retitled the grouping "The Big Five" to include these two. The popularity and existing knowledge fanbase is spreading quickly to do word of mouth, the storylines feature an interesting aspect other slenderseries don't have, and the acting/editing/filming/production is top notch.

And that's my post on why the big three are popular Very Happy
