E-mail to Dana regarding SP problem

!behold:

Quote:

Dana,

All things considered, we can only imagine what you're going through.
Nothing could have prepared you for the roller-coaster ride your life
has been of late. And to think, this all started just because you were
helping your aunt out.

Really, I don't know if anything I can type will offer any succor.
Ultimately, all I can do is try, right? Try to offer some bit of
comfort. Realistically, I know that I'm half a country away right
now, so I can't immediately offer a real shoulder to cry on. Unless
you somehow found yourself in Arlington, TX.

Lovely as the barbeque is here, something tells me you're not up to
more flying, anyhow.Yeesh, with all the security checkpoints at
airports, who would be? "Get to the gate 2 hours early. Observe all
security warnings. Never gripe about having to remove your shoes.
Never gripes about not being able to take nail clippers on board when
you can still take matches. Always remember it's for your own good."
Knuckle-headed security procedures can't make you feel any more
relaxed, right?

I am sorry for the ramble. Love to hear myself go on and on sometimes,
eh? Listen, my point is simple. Sometimes having someone to talk to
cvan help you feel better, even if it doesn't immediately solve your
problems.

Perhaps a friendly ear can help you?

Yeah...

... I figure maybe, just maybe, I can get some sneaky information, or at least know what Dana might be thinking about.

Dana may think of the SP as a close friend. But her Aunt's well-being may be in danger. A friendship with an AI can only go so far. Hopefully we can find a way to help them both. Would Margaret be ok without the use of the Reflotron Plus, or would unplugging it make it too difficult for her to access wether she needs her humulin or not?

Hello, Dana.

I'd be surprised if you picked this message out of the torrent of thousands. But please, hear me out.

We are all torn, now. It would seem that we are forced to let your aunt suffer, or the Princess suffer.

I have a proposition for you. Melissa is monitoring this channel, so all I can do is pray that you read this and she does not.

Dana, the choice lies not between one or the other. Real life is rarely black and white. You need to enlist the Princess' help in protecting your aunt. The Princess has more power than we know. You were there with us as we answered the axons -- you know what the Princess has become capable of.

At any point that Melissa attempts to harm your aunt, I am confident that the Princess can stop her. In sending this, I am risking my own skin -- Melissa doesn't take kindly to betrayal. Don't let these words go unheard.

An ancient Chinese proverb: "Only when all contribute their firewood can they build up a strong fire." The answer is not black or white. Trust in your allies. The Princess. Us.

Everyone wins

Here's an idea:

Quote:

Dana,

I have an idea that can let you help Melissa while letting the Sleeping Princess survive. First you need to contact the Sleeping Princess. You can do this by sending an image file to Melissa through e-mail and encoding text in the picture. If you need help with this, there are plenty of friends on your blog that can help. You need to tell the Sleeping Princess that she has to isolate herself completely in one sector of the website. I'm sure she'll trust you if you tell her that you are a friend and trying to help. Then, call your phone company and have them agree to cut your service at a specific time. This will isolate Melissa from trying to escape your system in the next step. Now call the electric company and have them cut your power just after the time your phone service is going to end. This will effectively shut down your entire system. You can then take the hard drive from the server and have it copied completely. Now, both copies are in exactly the same state as when the power went off. You can then reinstall one of them back into the server and switch the power back on. You can then explain to Melissa through your Aunt's e-mail that there was an accident with some lines down the street, but it is fixed now. You can then tell her the location of the Sleeping Princess, since she should be hiding where you told her to. You might also want to tell her that the flea has been playing both sides of this. This would fulfill your end of the bargain with Melissa and should spare your Aunt.

Now comes the importance of the other copy of the hard drive. First, you can set it up as a slave drive on another computer. This would prevent it from actively running programs on its own, but would allow you access to its files. I would suggest trying to do this on a laptop so that it is completely isolated, in case anything goes wrong. Now all you have to do is delete everything except the sector you told the Sleeping Princess to hide in. You can then move the drive over to be a primary drive on a laptop. Sure, the Sleeping Princess won't have as much access as she did previously, and would be pretty isolated, but at least she would still "be". You can then let Melissa play out whatever she is planning, and keep the princess safe until the coast is clear. The princess can still get messages to us through you. She can tell you what information needs to be passed on, and you could contact us through your blog. It does not seem to be monitored by Melissa at all. I hope this helps. Right now, I trust the Sleeping Princess more than Melissa, but I don't want you and your family to suffer for the sake of a computer program.

A friend,
Cortex

Any thoughts on this? I just sent it a few minutes ago. I'll post something if I get a reply from it.

Here's my take on the situation

This is an email I sent to Dana with the subject "how to capture an ai"

Quote:
hi, dana
*tugs on ear twice*

it's been awhile... listen, i just wanted to GIVE you some
information that HopEfully Really will helP you out In yOUr Search For
the 'sLeepingprincEss'. tell melissA that the version number for
the sleeping princess is: 5.14.77 this will help her find it. good
luck!

I think we're going on the assumption that Melissa can read Dana's emails, so I tried to encode the message "Give her pious flea".. And gave Dana PF's version # Maybe if enough of us do this, we can get Dana to substitute catching the PF(which is clearly more of a threat) for the SP and convince Melissa it's the Princess.

Remember that you have to be careful when sending Dana emails. Melissa is monitoring Dana's email account, so she can see everything you send her, and also delete anything that she doesn't want Dana to see.
