just for the record, the official prometheus twitter just deleted the waylandcorporation.com post after i @ replied the correction. they then revised it with waylandindustries.com. Smile

edited to add: they didn't delete the corporation one after all. it's still there. hmm

Just be sure to use WEYLAND, not wayland... just to avoid confusion.

Tough to keep catching that little typo :P

EDIT: oops - see I'm getting all confused!
It's never weylandCORP*, the only official site is weylandindustries.com (and not wAyland) :)

and blackfeathers - the official tweet you replied to is deleted :)

I've just wasted an hour plugging it into iFeelPixel's morse converter every which way. I'm going to play some TF2 now. Try and stop me. Little men.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So if you can get ENTITY from the name of the gif, and are left with ..----.-.gif to decifer... Well, looking at the gif itself and assuming the first part of the gif translates as . -. - .. - -.--, you are left with a lot more dits and dahs after the supposed ..----.- part of the gif.

well, presuming the first word, these are the remaining combos I've found (haven't been able to find a (free) online tool yet to produce a list of possible morse translations from a single sequence.. might need to program one. bah Smile

If it's any help, here's a larger version of the gif slowed down a bit as well.
morse.gif

Based on the 237 frames, this is the sequence I've transcribed...
_ is white
X is dark
o is grey (various shades Confused)

Code:
__oXXXX________Xo_XXX__XXXXXXXX_oXX__oXXXXX____X________XX__oXXXXXX________X__X
XX__XXo__XXo__XXXXXXX__XXXXXX_______oX________X____X_______XXXXXXX__oXX__X_____
____XXXXXo___X_________Xo________X________XXXXXX__XXX__XXo_oXX__XXX__XXXXXXXXXX

I considered perhaps it forms an image, but 237 frames makes only either 3 rows of 79 (as split above), or 79 rows of 3. Even checked with a non-monospace font but couldn't see any image or word form at any length.

Trying various representations of dit and dah lengths, I came close to english words, but nothing complete or sensical...
eg, converting _ to dit/dah, one could possibly see:
Code:
.-....--.-.....--.-..-.---.....

which could roughly produce REIGNSEQUEOEH

Basically any transcriptions I get require some loose dit/dah estimates... nothing conclusive from me. Maybe someone else can have better luck

I nearly concluded the whole thing must be "LIGHTSEQUENCE" and lolled hard at my failed effort.

I keep wanting to think of this as the space jockey transmission... aka deleted scene thing. So what is universal language? Math? Binary?

short mark, dot or 'dit' (·) — 1
longer mark, dash or 'dah' (–) — 111
intra-character gap (between the dots and dashes within a character) — 0
short gap (between letters) — 000
medium gap (between words) — 0000000

And then I tried to figure this out and my head exploded. It being 1 am now I think its time for a rest..

maybe a new day new ideas Confused

Concatenated all the frames then stretched it to make it a bit more viewable.

In the page source, it references two video files, presumably the faint animation of the spheres you can see in the background. There are two files, one mp4 and one ogg, but they are different.

I first assumed it was the same video, just in different formats for different systems, but the videos are actually different, the mp4 has some stutter and cuts out like a projector reel, and the ogg is smoother.

However I lack the knowhow to mess around with them and see if they mean anything.

Links are

https://www.weylandindustries.com/vid/spheres.ogg

they just changed the ogg file to this:

https://www.weylandindustries.com/vid/spheres_2.ogg

with that line of thought, notice the graph paper background has 16 x 16 squares. doubt it might be something but perhaps filling it in there might produce something?

also, just noting the possibility that the morse gif starts with an underscore, so it's possible that it's two words and possibly anagram.

All three are different. Why?

_.-.-..--.--..----.-.gif

more spec than solve but ignoring the final dot for the gif extension, one possible permutation:

_ . -. - .. - -.-- .. --- - .- dot gif : _ entity iota . gif

Hey guys, I haven't posted here since the Cloverfield ARG... I'm feeling kinda nostalgic Very Happy

Anyway, I registered again seeing as I forgot my previous account, and I've been checking the WeylandIndustries website. For starters, I can't seem to find the morse code gif anywhere on the site, I checked on the source code (even inside the .css file), so I'd like to know where are you guys getting this info.
https://www.weylandindustries.com/img/_.-.-..--.--..----.-.gif <- this throws a 404 error for me.

That aside, I did found something that might be the same you guys are seeing, it's a gif called "findme.gif" and it's here https://www.weylandindustries.com/img/findme.gif
This gif is a star absolutely positioned 174px to the left left and 361px from the top, on the Earth picture, at Australia's height.

I'm posting this because it differs a lot from what you guys have been doing, which might indicate a change in what the site is now. Feel free to correct anything.
Edit: it's actually not THAT much of a change, but they definitely renamed the file. Unsure why.

Interesting that they've changed the filename as well as the OGG file in the span of a day since they launched...

It's the same exact file. I checked. Clearly the filename is not the message. :B
