I do not see any picture of a star or Australia or anything when I click the link here to the findme.gif. I only see the morse code image.

What I meant with the star was findme.gif, actually. I've attached a picture that shows where the gif is, in the main Earth picture. As you can see by the coordinates, it's about the height of Australia, just not positioned over it.

I'm not sure if it has been tried already, but has anyone opened the .gif in an image editor to view the separate frames as morse code?

A thought crossed my mind perhaps a star map, but I don't think the visible stars on that image are based on our actual sky Razz

We could be making that out to be more than it's intended... might just be a fiction element on the theme of finding a lost ship in space. *shrug*

wonder if the creative team is watching this thread... Shifty Eyes

Where exactly in the page was the original morse code .gif? Earlier in the thread someone said "bottom left", but it seemed too vague for me and it was the reason I bumped into this change.
The position of the .gif could be a clue, since it's not random.

Also I saw someone earlier posted the layer sequence of the .gif. Is "findme.gif" the same as the former one?

The pixel position doesn't look to have changed (I didn't check the actual x/y of the initial spot though)

I believe it was mentioned above that the findme.gif has not changed. It is still 237 frames (and I believe the content is identical)

With the images Mr. Toasty posted here, it looks like a barcode.

I'd like to think this is binary code because of what someone a few posts above said, math is the most basic language, and binary could be deemed as "universal".
What throws me off is that there's 4 different shades of grey in the concatenated .gif file posted by MrToasty, 3 if we assume one of them is the alpha layer. In any case it we could consider white layers as 1 and everything else as 0, then try to translate that to ASCII and see what comes up.

I thought so too - especially if stretched and converted to black and white like this:

But I tried reading it with a barcode scanner on my phone and got nothing. Maybe I did something wrong though.

The problem is those mid-range greys... They're not consistent, and interspersed seemingly at random, as if they were like anti-aliased pixels between on and off.

With most other frames being solid, on or off, those rare lighter greys throw off absolute certainty in any obvious decoding method...
What do they meeeeeaaaan?

@enaxor, I initially thought so too but it does not have the start and ending bars that are characteristic for a barcode.

I have however transcribed the morse from that image (. being white and - being black) and have come up with the following so far :

Code:
..  .- --  - .... .  ... - . .- --. .- -------..--...-----....-........-....------........-..---..--...--...-------..------........-........-....-.......-------...--..-.........-----....-.........-.........-........------..---..--...--..---..----------

The upper part that already has spaces spells
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I AM THE STEAGA

Alternatively the morse could be arranged as :
Code:
..  .- --  - .... . .. .-
..---..--------..--...-----....-........-....------........-..---..--...--...-------..------........-........-....-.......-------...--..-.........-----....-.........-.........-........------..---..--...--..---..----------

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I AM THEIA
Theia being a Greek goddess and a Titan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theia)
Prometheus being the son of Titans (Iapetus and Themis) makes this also quite plausible

Keep in mind that this is still only a theory an I could be totally wrong xD

just confirming both gifs are/were identical. i compared it side-by-side, frame-by-frame noting where the colour changes occurred just now.

editing to add the css code for reference:

Code:
#page_about #twinkle {
  background-attachment:initial;
  background-clip:initial;
  background-color:initial;
  background-image:url(https://www.weylandindustries.com/img/findme.gif);
  background-origin:initial;
  background-position:initial initial;
  background-repeat:no-repeat no-repeat;
  height:1px;
  left:174px;
  position:absolute;
  top:361px;
  width:1px;
}

speaking of which, they've been playing around with the source code. note the following from the about page (and there might be more):

Thats just lorem ipsum text. A Placeholder that Webdevs use to simulate content on a page.

note that the block is in a hidden div, other content being similar to visible page content. Pretty sure they just didn't remove it when they updated the about us page. Confused

Today we might get an update then, or maybe tomorrow, if they're adding dummy text.
I still don't quite get how the morse code is deciphered from the layers, but you might have bumped into something, Minz. Did you ignore the mid-gray layers and used only black and white? I can see how the alpha layers could be spaces, now that I think about it.

I tried translating everything into binary code assuming the mid grays as zeros, but I didn't get anything from this:

Quote:
1000000100000000110001000000000100011000000100001000000000100000000100000000100001000010000100000011000000100000000100000000010000111000000000010000100100000000000000100010000000000100000000100000000000001000011000100010000100000000000

And it wasn't going to work anyway seeing as ascii characters are 8-bit and 237 isn't divisible by 8. So it must be morse code.[/code]
