Okay, I've decided to follow that Prometheus twitter account, haha.
I'm going to give this another try. I'll just assume every white and mid gray as a dot, and every strict dark gray as a dash, and see what happens after that.
I even started reading about the Doppler effect and redshift, even though I doubt such high level analysis is required for a game like this Very Happy, but since this is a "star", we may never know.

I don't have to tell you guys that whatever the blinking light translates as it should potentially lead somewhere - maybe a url, an inbox or twitter account. I doubt it will be a useless message.

The only message i have figured out so far is EDIR6EQUJ5 - looks useless to me. Let me go try again.

Having spent hours yesterday staring at and deconstructing an flashing dot animated gif, I've decided to hop on here and join the fun.

Like, THEREALOWINN I now know more about morse code than I care to. It does seem like a dead end (especially as morse was used to find the file name). Given it's representing a star, maybe the pattern can be turned into radio waves or something? I'm now learning more about radio transmission protocols than I (or my employer) would like!

but EDIR6EQUJ5 is not meaningless:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow!_signal

he circled alphanumeric code 6EQUJ5 describes the intensity variation of the signal. A space denotes an intensity between 0 and 1, the numbers 1 to 9 denote the correspondingly numbered intensities (from 1.000 to 10.000), and intensities of 10.0 and above are denoted by a letter ('A' corresponds to intensities between 10.0 and 11.0, 'B' to 11.0 to 12.0, etc.). The value 'U' (an intensity between 30.0 and 31.0) was the highest detected by the radio telescope, on a linear scale it was over 30 times louder than normal deep space.[1] The intensity in this case is the unitless signal-to-noise ratio, where noise was averaged for that band over the previous few minutes.[2]

Okay, how did you found EDIR6EQUJ5? I think we've finally hit something! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow!_signal
I knew I recognized that from somewhere else.

Edit: Okay, someone beat me to it! But yeah, this is an interesting breakthrough.

Wow!

This is an awesome picture. Only the first 4 characters of the morse code are inconsistent, it means there's something that needs to be refined there.

Ugh... I figured out that 6EQUJ5 thing last night like 8 times and threw out the paper figuring that was garbage... The way I figured it out was using the longer black moments in the gif as spaces between letters... Now I feel dumb.

This. Just looked at the scribbles I was making yesterday and there it is. If only I had studied more in Mystery Radio Signals From Space class.
