[CHAT] - Oct 23rd Rendezvous - colinlaney

colinlaney, aka Randomeis had a rendezvous with CC32 tonight. Here's the question of the day:

Quote:

Roberts: A woman named Ann Charters said this:
"________ living his dream as a Zen Lunatic and rucksack wanderer on the fabled golden shares of West Coast America."

Roberts: I want you to fill in this blank while you're on the road.
Roberts: I expect the answer to be consumed by the fury of wind.

<randomeis> shares or shores?
Roberts: You have until 11:59 PM EST tomorrow to answer this.
Roberts: My data says shares.

<randomeis> very well
Roberts: Do you understand?
<randomeis> i understand
Roberts: Are you sure?
<randomeis> yes i will answer on the IC comments page by tomorrow night
Roberts: Have I decieved you in anyway?
<randomeis> not that i am aware of
Roberts: Consider it. Good day, user.
<randomeis> good day
pgcc32: PROGRAM terminated.

A couple of thoughts:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
* Probably something to do with Jack Kerouac

* What does Roberts mean about deceiving us?
* Hasn't Roberts heard of "i before e, except after c"?

New Command

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Apparently the "mistake" in Roberts' Data was intentional. New Command: shares http://home.comcast.net/~projectgateway/shares.htm

Hope someone can make some sense of this. I'm starting to feel "decieved".

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There's a big long list of numbers on the shares page that looks like base8, numbers 0-7. I converted the apparent base8 string to base2, binary, and it seemed to be way too large to be a part of mercurious. So then I tried converting to Hex and from Hex to ascii, still nothing. I've attached text files of all four, base 8, binary, hex, and ascii.

The answer is simply

"Kerouac"

According to this website
http://www.mingbooks.supanet.com/paperback_catalogue_3.htm

Scroll down to 768
768. KEROUAC Jack The Dharma Bums. Kerouac living his dream as a Zen lunatic and rucksack wanderer on the fabled golden shores of west coast
America. Penguin, Fine 10.00

Perhaps somebody can find a copy at the lib or in a bookstore and conferm?

I must be off to work.

Aqua Key Solve (from shares)

Okay, if you do a straight Octal -> Ascii conversion on the text you find in the source of the 'shares' page, you get mostly gibberish... but in there are fragments of text for a key, but all mixed up.

No gate number, but I'm assuming by the content it is HydroBlast, gate 3204.

Here's the key which i painstakingly reconstructed Smile:

Code:

/----------------------\
|                       |
|  I am the aqua,       |
|  I am the underwater  |\_______________________________
|  watcher in the deep. |                                \
|  Use me, and you      |                                 \
|  shall unlock         |________________________________ /
|  the watery lancer.   | ____    _       __   ___      _/
|                       |/    \  / \     /  \_/   \    /
|                       |      \/   \   /          \  /
|     Gate#3204         |            \_/            \/
\-----------------------/

Submitted Very Happy

That's my first one in ages, I thought I was beginning to lose it Wink
