Do PM's usually come and tell us what they were thinking when ARG's end?

I wonder if we were supposed to be at the eridu part already.
If we were'nt, apart from trying random names from the trailer as directories for the url (kudos SSS), where was it supposed to have come to us from?

They hinted about Weyland, the Pleiades... that's probably for the 245409 part
seven, seven, seven...

ah, credit drama... there's no way to know, on the PM side, who actually produced any successful solution apart from tracking the first hit tied to a user. Beyond that, who's idea was it? I think for twitter, Movielord may have been the first to tweet it. PMs tread some potentially controversial ground when rewarding "solvers" with credit... and the community makes their own angst by desiring credit Wink IMO, community should determine for themselves, if they desire, who gets credit, if there's no incontrovertible way to determine it. For puzzles even, what if two people on two forums come up with the right answer independently? Who gets credit?
Now if the site gave people unique logins, then you could put in the solution, then they'd know at least who provided the correct answer first, and that'll tend to be the one who solved it (else how would they know?). But PP.com is anonymous access... so..

...don't make big drama over getting credit. Everyone works as a team, so applaud whoever had a hand in it should be congratulated to whatever degree; that's the best way, imo.

Yeah, I think those clues weren't meant to be used at /eridu, now that I think about it. It just doesn't make sense.
Something about Seven associated to Orion? According to WIkipedia, there are 7 main stars in Orion:

Betelgeuse
Rigel
Bellatrix
Mintaka
Alnilam
Alnitak
Saiph

Those with 7 characters int their names are Mintaka, Alnilam and Alnitak.

In one myth, Orion fell in love with the Pleiades, the seven sisters, daughters of Atlas and Pleione. He started pursuing them and Zeus scooped them up and placed them in the sky. The Pleiades are represented by the famous star cluster of the same name, located in the constellation Taurus. Orion can still be seen chasing the sisters across the sky at night.

We may have to dig deeper into the Orion-Pleiades relationship.

First of all, should we make certain assumptions for the next pw?
Not written in stone, obviously but I would favor using mostly lower case and spaces from now on... mostly.

Also, what do you guys think, the url was eridu, a city, the pass was again, a city

Now we have a star, should we be looking for a star?

Anyway, yeah, I agree with you, thebruce, the important is playing, and having fun all together.
I was asking about contacting PM afterwards not so much about the credit they gave, but really to try and understand what they had in mind for us.

I want to be clear I don't care about credit or anything else. I was just a little pissy that I'd already tried it but on the 245409 site because the eridu one would give me weird error messages and wouldn't load last night. I'm also more than a little frustrated because I never kept track of which codes I put in which page since I've had so much trouble loading them. This ARG is actually more frustrating than fun right now.

Another name HD 245409 is known by:

V2689 Ori (K7 class star - Yep 7s again)

Not much help unfortunately as I have entered:

Ori
ori
ORI

etc....

V2689
v2689

And multiple case options for a mixture of the 2 (both Ori first and V2689 first).

Keeping it short and sweet, people should realise its a team effort before they copy & paste answers to PMs with the sole recognition in mind. I really really love this forum and I just can't stand cheaty people Wink

Hopefully there is an update.

Hopefully it will provide a detail to allow us to narrow our search for the elusive password.

NOTE: The cancer treatment ones were out of desperation as nothing else was working and the timeline said he cured cancer.

It was a stretch but was worth a try lol.

I guess I'm just frustrated that it took us so long to figure out something we had in front of our eyes, had this been something more obvious like deciphering a blurry barcode or a morse code sequence, I wouldn't be as bothered, since it's less "random". But whatever.

While reading the Orion wiki page, I saw this:

Quote:
The Bible mentions Orion three times, naming it "Kesil" (כסיל, literally - fool. Though, this name perhaps is etymologically connected with "Kislev", the name for the ninth month of the Hebrew calendar (i.e. November-December), which, in turn, may derive from the Hebrew root K-S-L as in the words "kesel, kisla" (כֵּסֶל ,כִּסְלָה, hope, positiveness), i.e. hope for winter rains.): Job 9:9 ("He is the maker of the Bear and Orion"), Job 38:31 ("Can you loosen Orion`s belt?"), and Amos 5:8 ("He who made the Pleiades and Orion"). In ancient Aram, the constellation was known as Nephîlā′, the Nephilim may have been Orion's descendants.[19]

Quote:
"Nephilim" (נְפִילִים) probably derives from the Hebrew root npl (נָפַל), "to fall" which also includes "to cause to fall" and "to kill, to ruin". The Brown-Driver-Briggs Lexicon gives the meaning as "giants"[1]

Giant men from the sky, interesting.

@THEREALOWINN: The only problem is that the password was capitalized. I guess it was overlooked because it was tried, but nobody thought about trying all of these passwords in lowercase.

Naa, who cares about that..

Come on guys, we have it.
We have Orion with Gliese 208 (HD 245409), then they show us the Pleiades which are in Taurus constellation.
It's a star, the pw is a star, and it's important either in its location (somewhere between the two or something), either in mythology. Hell, probably both aspects.
We're very close, but we need to make sure we try all types of formatting for the pw...

Un-lurk engage!

Yes, it is there in the post, but it was capitalized. it's a real pisser that the passwords seem to be non-capitalized, but I can't think of real passwords I (or anyone I know) have used that were capitalized unless the server/service I or we were using required capitalization for password security reasons.

I thought at one point that the 245409 could be referring to a Patent No., since the Patent No.s were really prevalent in the Corporate Timeland on the Weyland Industries site, but it only led me to a funky button-placing device.

This might be a good time to get a summary post up. Re-look over all of the 245409 items and clues.

i'm going to look back on these posts
