[BLOG] To My Eldest Son
A familiar format here people

Here is the link: http://tomyeldestson.blogspot.com/

The format is very similar to two other blogs I've trailheaded in the past, which is no coincidence as it comes from the same author. It only has two brief entries at the time of this posting, so it's very easy to pick it up even if you're a casual blogger. The use of highlighted letters and entire words has been brought over from previous blogs too, although this blog has nothing to do with the others.

So, an eldest son gets a creepy house with a dead spot on the second floor? Has anyone ever read Wayside School? Razz I like the premise so far. I haven't made much of the highlighted words and letters yet, although I'm sure time will tell. In fact, the use of code from the beginning implies that this blog has been carefully written and planned long before start, which is a quality I find refreshing.

Always good to see a new blog.

I'll check this out, thanks for posting the Trailhead.

Edit: I'm liking this.

The writing style is good, and the premise intrigues me.

He's also started off with the letter puzzles early on, as you said. Now, I fail hard at puzzles, but as a fellow blogger, I'll try to figure them out.

I also like his name: Knick Knack. I read an awesome comic adaption of Silent Hill 2 by an artist going by the very same name.

I will follow this blog, I'd like to see how it turns out.

His freakishly tall lawyer? Uhoh.

But yeah, this is a well-written blog that I'm definitely going to follow. Very Happy

Sigh... Eldest, what are you doing here? You have gone on a posting rampage the last few days, tearing apart other people's threads, and now you're posting in your own. Seriously. Are you just desperate for attention? Rolling Eyes

Tearing apart other people's threads? I really don't understand why I'm getting so much flak for giving an honest opinion. Also I was unaware that I wasn't allowed to post in here if I'm not discussing the blog. (Although now that I think about it I probably should have used PM Embarassed )

The mods have told you not to do that in your previous blog. DO NOT post in here EVER!

Oooh. Never gotten in at the beginning of a blog before. The colored letters and crossed out names make me wonder if the author is a fan of House of Leaves, and if that will bode well for the rest of the story.

Anyone working on the letter puzzles?

And:

Quote:
"Nothing at all to report on the second floor, besides an abandoned hornet nest and drawer full of marbles."

Ohho, I see what you did there, sir!

Eldest: 2. Do not post in any thread about your own series, whether it be in character or out.

That means for any reason.

I'm not too good at puzzles, but I'm getting the full words in blue. "This mansion is far different from"...something. Different from reality? From my old crappy apartment in the 'hood? From houses not seen in horror stories? Wink

I can't figure out the mixed up letters yet.

I shouldn't have ignored this blog. I'd seen some pretty good stuff from the writer before. Unfortunately, I wasn't particularly fond of the last blog I saw from him, and the House of Leaves formatting personally turned me off a bit. But he's doing an amazing job of building up the tension and mystery, and he's using alien geometries in a subtle way. I'm also curious about his portrayal of Slendy. The lawyer seems like he's supposed to be Slendy, but he's apparently got a name? Not sure what's going on, but I'm interested.

I also like his subtle references. An Eldest son referred to as K, the hornets nest and the bag of marbles, Victor Svend, "Ol' Svendy...a lot of very subtle injokes.

Also, the blue words in each entry form a message. "This mansion is far different from the fools thought it" so far, for those among us who are a bit lazy.

I don't mean to dig up an old thread, but I just found this one and read through the blog. I assume it's over now? It was a fairly interesting little piece of work. For some reason, I decided to transcribe all the House of Leaves type formatting throughout. If you're interested in seeing it, I'll put it in a spoiler below (and it's a big long spoiler, beware!):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Here are what the red letters spell out (names of each blog entry are in parentheses):

(Testament) An origin
(Signal) the pit and the tower
(Prodigal's Revenge) pretender to the throne
(Exploration) not the only shadow on the horizon
(Dust) The third is older than time itself
(The Locked Room) that no chain can hold
(Two Mysteries) not all doors are the same
(No Foolin') or the fool who follows
(Truthwalker) the prophet speaks
(Footprints) the unseen sees you
(Evidence) it begins
(Victory) will you trust your lying eyes
(Rude Awakening) how many days have you lost
(Bored of Damacles) boredom is the first step towards madness
(Lock and Key) red is the new black
(April Showers) thunder rain and lightning
(Bring May Flowers) what evil lurks in the heart of men
(Password) we have the keys

Here are the blue words (about halfway through the blog, they turn to green instead):

(blue) "This mansion is far different from the fools thought it"
(green) "In the house of house my father"

There are many words that are struck out throughout the blog. They are all either "grandfather" or "father."

There are many words that are covered in black and must be highlighted to be read. They all have to do with water (wave, storms, flooded, sea, damp, sodden), the attic, or his father's book, Walking Beneath The Sky.

There are also invisible words that are found within the spacing of each blog entry when it is highlighted. Here are those phrases (blog entries in parentheses):

(Testament) ithoughtitwasablessing
(Signal) whatcannotberepairedbymortalhands
(Prodigal's revenge) thedeadliestpoisoncannotbeseen
(Exploration) justiceonlycomesfromacourtoffools
(Dust) thesecondisnotempty
(The locked room) joyansorrowliebeyond
(Two mysteries) whichcagewillyouchoose
(No Foolin') whoareyoutryingtoconvince
(Truthwalker) butyouarelosingyoursoul
(Footprints) dustdoesnotlie
(Evidence) thefeelingismutual
(Victory) howiregretthatday
(Rude Awakening) strugglingagainstthecurrentsoftime
(Bored of Damacles) orstrungupbetweenthem
(Lock and Key) turnyoureyestowardsthehorizon
(April Showers…) thestormhasnotpassed
(…Bring May Flowers) nomoresecrets)
(Password) twostrikes…
(The End of the World) (the entire post is "invisible") The World ended on December 21st, 2012. But it was not by the hand of man that Earth was unmade, nor by the laws of nature. It was the Abomination; whom had taken the form of a man, who caused it. This fell power, this force from before our planet was formed, was known by many names. He is Der Ritter, Bogman, Slender Man, Níðhöggr... His name matters not... But it was him who burnt the world.

As was mentioned earlier in the thread, there are some fun little references to other things, such as Marble Hornets, "Slendy" (Ol' Svendy), etc. He also references many names that Slendy goes by in the mythology, and the Norse dragon who gnaws on the roots of the Yggdrasill (Níðhöggr) in his final blog post. As wiki states, the appearance of this dragon heralds Ragnarok. Interesting thing about Ragnarok is that, after the battle, the world will be submerged in water...a very typical Slender Man motif, and what the blog alludes to as well.

Really have no clue why I did that...oh well. Hope it's useful to anyone who is interested!
