according to the downloadable jpg, there are 37 resources.

if there's something there, it's likely that it's not a straight-on alphabetic substitution cipher - unless the 11 remaining resources are eliminated as bogus or represent other things like numbers. doubtful but 26 letters and 0 to 10 would then add up to 37.

Re: It's not a table of elements

We can all agree that's not a periodic table, right? Trying to map out some fantasy periodic table of elements is just over-thinking.

It's a cipher key. A number (or group of numbers) is equivalent to a letter (or group of letters).

Somewhere out there, maybe already, is a clue that consists of a bunch of numbers. We are supposed to substitute the letters. Like THEREALOWINN did to see "Y U Ta Ni"

With me? Okay. Where have we already seen a whole bunch of seemingly unnecessary numbers?

The timeline.
The patents.

Those have been bugging me all day and I've wondered if there were a pattern to them (primes? Fibbonacci?) But I suck at math.

But what if......

Yes, it is not a periodic table of elements. But it contains many elements, some odd. Im curious about what their fictional periodic table of elements would look like compared to a real one, using the atomic numbers provided. I suppose I would leave out anything not indicated to be a mineral according to the key. If this yields anything interesting, and isnt just a weird looking mess, ill post it.

I think I remember somewhere someone posted a link to an unobscured loop of the orbs moving around? im curious to see if theres any difference to the loop currently in the background.

Can I assume it's already been pointed out that the list of elements on the Investor Relations page has a few mythical substances in it?

- 147 Adamantine
- 219 Carmot
- 119 Eitr
- 247 Orichalcum

Ok I've gone through all the patent numbers on the corporate timeline and save for the first 3 or 4 numbers of two of the patents, they'd don't match up with these primary resource keys at all, so I think that's a dead end.

This whole thing reeks of Alchemy, guys.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemical_symbol

Antimony

Bismuth
Boron
Magnesium
Phosphorus
Platinum
Potassium
Stone
Sulfur
Zinc

I've been thinking about this since I saw the Philosopher's Stone references, and the more I see those "made up" elements and how none of them seem to match with a real symbol, I figured there had to be more to it. Not all of the alchemic elements are present, but most are.
In that wiki article there's a .pdf detailing even more symbols and to what elements they correspond, check it out: http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U1F700.pdf

It's kind of funny though, seeing as they're so full of science, but the thing about not detailing Peter Weyland's death and dealing with "life extending" methods sorta made me suspicious. It reminds me of that Lovecraft story, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, and that alchemist Joseph Curwen, extending his life using all sorts of occult methods and "salts".

Don't overthink it!

It doesn't have to be a straight-on (English) alphabet substitution. It could be syllabic/phonetic. If my theory is right, they've already given us the letters/syllables to use. No need to count them!

147 is AX
12 is AL
etc...

So for example, 74147 would be the word WAX.

Now, to be fair, there are a lot of really oddball letter couplings that don't at first glance seem to contribute to many real words (in English)...

The anomalies from the Weyland "Periodic Table"
-Module 1.6 PRIMARY RESOURCE KEY

These do not fit in the real Periodic Table. This is what has been added by Weyland. These are teh references we need to research on. IMO.

Remaining Cosmic Call 2 Messages

Something odd I noticed about 3/5 Cosmic Call 2 messages received.

According to the banner the current year is 2073

Assuming that the Cosmic Call messages were received in the chronological order they were sent, the 4th message should have arrived at HD 10307 Andromeda in 2044. The 5th message should have arrived at HD 95128 Ursa Major in 2049. This seems a bit inconsistent. Unless, "3/5 Cosmic Call 2 messages received" means a reply from the Cosmic Call destinations? Which means that they have received 3 reply messages, from intelligent life? seems odd.

Keep in mind it's not even a fictional periodic table, it's a fictional "resource key".
It just looks like a periodic table, is all.

Now we need to get organized, sort these suckers out. Which are fictional, which are not. Which are rare, which are abundant.
The numbers are important. Obviously we all love the cipher idea, even though personally I fear it might not be just that simple. Their format is important, like some are in 000, 001, and another is 6.
Then 147 is repeated, and 45 as well. This should all mean something (as far as we focus on that table).

someone might want to double-check. i've ordered the resources according to years at current rate of consumption. there are 30 lines:

eitr
tridium
uranium
tungsten
manganese
rare earths & adamantine
yttrium
orichalcum & rhodium
indium
cadmium & molybdenum
hafnium
graphite & gallium
cobalt
water
platinum
tantalum
zinc
carmot & tin
antimony
germanium
nickel
titanium
chromium
lead
gold
silver
copper
aluminum
phosphorus
coal, gas & oil

some of these are a hairline difference from the next. others appear to be right at the same level, hence the grouping in the same line.

Exactly...

Nowhere on the page are these ever identified as elements.
They're just a catalog of fictional resources the company controls.
The similarity to our real periodic table is probably deliberate, but I believe not relevant.

Mythical/Odd Elements

Here is a rundown on the elemental oddities

These are the "minerals" as indicated by the key

Adamantine Ax 147
"adamant" from Greek Mythology, meaning a hard substance. In modern times it has come to be replaced by diamond. In Prometheus Bound, Hephaestus is to bind Prometheus to the jagged rocks in adamantine bonds infrangible.

Carmot Ct 219
The philosophers stone

Eitr Et 119
Norse Mythology. origin of all living things. very poisonous, produced by Midgard serpent and other serpents.

Tridium Tx 627

Orichalcum Oc 247
supposedly mined in Atlantis, very valuable. "red light of orichalcum"

Rare Earths Zx 345

Graphite Pc 147

Titaniums number is 45, in reality it is 22

Titanium and Rhodium have the same number, 45

Adamantine and Graphite both have number 147

These are the "resources" and "water" as indicated by the key

Coal C 6
Water Ho ooo
Gas Za 001
Oil Oi 002

It seems strange they would assign an atomic number to graphite, and others.

We should keep in mind those resources with their proper chemical symbol, those who don't, and the fictional ones, that way we can sort them out in order of significance.

The /eridu image has the characters TAS above the PP logo, and the file is also named TAS. Any relevance you think? I found TA in the resource table but no singular S...

EDIT: sorry, just realised it's just initials of the password... duh. Embarassed

Nice. The best would be some kind of online spreadsheet we'd all have access to, we could assign each "element" to its number and quantity and sort them out all kinds of ways, numerically, alphabetically, we could color-flag the"odd" ones.

Well, that's kinda sophisticated, but the idea is there, it'd be very easy to boggle the symbols and numbers around and maybe create words that tickle us just right.

I like Adamantine though, if it's so directly related to Prometheus..

On a more down to earth and almost unrelated note, remember the last puzzles? Maybe we really shouldn't be overthinking this, actually. Or at least not for the moment. We're low on clues and pushing a game on a hypothetical .url directory.

I'm gonna get some sleep. Have fun!
