Wait. This is insane.
Quote:
The key data is placed in prime locations

The key data is literally placed in the prime locations. Like, the prime numbered pages are where the information is. How.

Since Louise mentions Past (Mercury), it seems like a good place to start (unless anyone knows where to start on the data unrecoverable code). The key checker is 496.zip, so presumably the key is 3 words, first one 4 letters, second one 9 letters, third one 6 letters. I'm just going to start throwing stuff out that I see on the page:

4: Iron, Mona, Kami, Good, Wall, York, Gaul
9: Alexander, Ephialtes, Suetonius, Cleopatra, Caesarion, Septimius, Purloined
6: Kelama, Buddug, Gadfly, Antony, Veneti, Letter

If you assume that the keys will only be related to things inside the coded text (like with the playfair from before), you can get rid of some of those. Or maybe I'm not thinking about it right.

Speaking of not thinking about things right, I like how we keep getting clues to correct errors in judgement that I've made Very Happy

Was a teeny-ish error, Fuzzy. Am adding Nero to the 4 letter "The Bad" list b/c the Ja261f127g - Ahh Sid banner is attributed to him & he was pretty bad by accounts.

I got an email from JAG Present asking what I was up to, so I took the chance to ask him about the key we found. Here's his reply:
Quote:
Sorry to say the console is toast but I got a really cool touch-pad thingy in the post. Its got an Janus Archive app on it, okay so I just typed in '24' into it and it popped up saying:

Insert Maad GPS coordinates:

Any idea what it means man?

Needless to say, there is no real Janus Archive app. But that would be awesome. I haven't even started researching the coordinates, but this should be helpful (from the Missing Wallace blog):
Quote:
The professor has gone on sabbatical searching for the remains of Ozymandias's kingdom which is supposedly is south of the mythical plateau Leng. Shelley's and Smith's poems were in part based in fact (I've always preferred Smith's over Shelley's). According to Esme, Edward believes the great King had harnessed an energy source from an ancient gateway.

Meanwhile, this page has updated slightly: http://janusarchive.wikidot.com/ja189q0s

EDIT: I also received an email from JAG Past. I asked him about Ja261f127g and got this response:
Quote:
That would be the bad zone, terrible histories really. Many bad men during that time young man.

Do you know what is worst the murder?

Hey.

Yeaaaah, sorry I keep vanishing. In fairness I've had a bit of medical strife the past few days that has been keeping me out of being involved in stuff in general.

I WILL be back by sunday, but I have some more crap to slog through first, my apologies.

EDIT: You should strongly consider emailing Wallace or Louise or Sun while I am away... you might learn some interesting things.

Nice to have you (almost) back, Zobot!

First of all, I got another email from Holden. He seems to be rushing us. But I really don't know what to answer:
Quote:
Subject: Desolation's inhabitants

Young man, you've had some time to think.

What cuts deeper and longer than death, what echoes down through ages immortalised in its shroud of innocence lost. Those that have seen it cannot believe it and those that have done it know that they will burn in hell forever.

Second, the home page now reads
Quote:
Page 9 recovered and decrypted

Which led me to http://janusarchive.wikidot.com/9 (Bottom left page on original Past (Ja117v73vq)). It also led me (long story) to new very helpful pages that we probably aren't supposed to be able to access:

http://janusarchive.wikidot.com/system:recent-changes
http://janusarchive.wikidot.com/system:list-all-pages

Missing Wallace also updated, Louise found some drawings in Wallace's suitcase. The center symbol on the image she uploaded is the Yellow Sign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_Sign):
Quote:
anyone who possesses, even by accident, a copy of the sign is susceptible to some form of insidious mind control, or possession, by the King in Yellow or one of his heirs. The stories also suggest that the original creator of the sign was not human and possibly came from a strange alternate dimension that contains an ominous and ancient city known as Carcosa.

Reckon Holden nudges you toward the word "Treachery". It's Dante's 9th ring & the subject of the recovered 126. Is Ephialtes or treachery part of the 496.zip? Dunno

Great idea, amandel! I sent that to Holden and asked about the two new pages and got this response:
Quote:
Treachery is almost a nice word compared to Betrayal but you are close enough. I believe the keys have betrayal in their history, I'd almost forgotten what we were talking about.

I believe the A.I. that manages the archive is trying to rebuild and recover pages, the '9' page is self evident as part of the history of the One. The '126' page is less clear but maybe it is about the possible origins of the One. Even as one who is joined the true origin is veiled in secrecy, I believe only one man really knows the answer to that question.

May Tyche walk beside you.

So...maybe the 4 letter key is Cain? And Ephialtes is mentioned on the Wikipedia page for Dante's Inferno, although its a different Ephialtes than I thought (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloadae).

And we still need Maad's GPS coordinates to give to JAG Past...

Beaut Booba! (for the record & my OCD Laughing the key: Sungnyemunangel). Hoping Baron Kalan can help with the coords b/c the one part of 5.zip I guessed doesn't.
solve 5e.zip
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
password is "Stone" (case sensitive) opening a small text file reading: "They had increased to become..."

So how did you get to Stone ? The "we start large" riddle? 5 letters ends in "e" ?

Anyone get this one?

I'm mostly found high but sometimes low,
Travellers that past me give me body,
Which mark the end of journeys and beginnings a new.

Hi all. 5e was a pure guess after reading the new archive page 9. You're spot on 'tho that it's the riddles' last letter b/c the solve for 5.s is this riddle's answer:
Quote:
"We exist as many until fired into one, Our purpose is transparent, As a window into the world."
solve 5s.zip
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Riddle's answer is "Glass" (case sensitive) opening a tiny text file reading: The Eight and The One.

Finding it very difficult to jump in and out of this one without a summary of where things are at and what is being worked on Sad

Wanting to contribute more, but I just don't know what is going on.

Welcome back Zobot!

reesylou, welcome to the club, I'm having a hard time keeping up. Here's hoping Fuzzy and/or Amandel ( sorry guys, I know you have been pulling most of the weight on this one) can kinda direct us to what to work on. There is just so much stuff that the "whole picture" escapes me.

Amendal-Sweeet solve. I kinda think that 5n.zip is the five letter, ends in "n" answer to the above riddle. Lost again.

Question- Should we rat out Maad if we ever find him? just who is looking for him?
