Ok, LAINSY replied to my request with the following:
Quote:
RESPONSE: Anything particular to look up in the activity list? You have extended the look up range and thus without any particular filter the list is extremely long consisting of exactly 2061 entries. Do you wish to generate the list without any filters?

Obviously, that's too long to be of any use to us. My first thought as to what to ask for is file transfers. Can you guys think of anything worth adding to that list?

Also, who is Ryan Bruno, exactly? I know we've had dealings with him in the past, but I can't remember exactly what he did with us.

Sorry for being MIA these few days, school caught up with me :/

Anyways, ran a query on the files of Team Epsilon, and this came up:

Quote:
RESPONSE: Systems indicate that the files are not there, and the files that are there are either fragments or corrupted. There has been a massive data transfer executed by Althea Rosso on Januray 17, 2012. The execution instructed transfer of all her team's data into an alternate location. After which she executed that the backups of the data be pruged from the system. I attempted to locate the requested data for you, and it seems the alternate location is no longer available.

Suspicious?
I spoke to Inno about this and here's what he found out:
Quote:
I spoke with Althea and she says she knows nothing of this. Her account might have been compromised long ago. It seems someone stole all their data, and with her account as their team leader, executed to delete any other copy. So, whereever this data is, it might be the only copy we have and we're damn sure we need it back. I have silently instated a probatory command on LAINSY to inspect all further action of her account and to sandbox all command of this entire department. Everything they do will not be reflected on the real files but only in a sandboxed environment. We will sift through changes later and merge the changes as necessary. This prevent any further data loss or damage.

So the compromised account has been taken care of, and any future loss of data. Now where could those files have gone?

Well, if LAINSY was able to see the transfer, maybe she saw the destination. When I send her the filter(s) for my pending query, I'll add a request to check: a) the said destination, and b) the location of the terminal it was executed from, in addition to a list of all locations logged into that account on that day, and the proximity of Joseph Dillinger to each of them as they happened.

Almost makes me suspect James himself. I'll run the same search on him once I get the current one through to LAINSY.

Okay I've got LAINSY to give us another message (it seems LAINSY only has the resources to provide one at a time):
Quote:
RESPONSE: Apologies for the late response. Your previous query got stuck in a loop in a attempt to execute it. It's a minor bug, possibly relevant to how the Main Intranet Site is hosted on a server technology different as mine. I have retrieved 1 message which was on James Barron's Trash Notes. I am still continuing to retireve the other messages.

Note Title: Sed eu eros. Nam consequat dolor vitae dolor.

I believe that the entry in the rcom.lainsymatrix file is the following:
Code:
   <xaro>
      <ID>157</ID>
      <ENC>VFE93CSC3TI</ENC>
<KEY>Sed eu eros. Nam consequat dolor vitae dolor. Donec fringilla.</KEY>
<CRYP>dictum. Proin eget odio. Aliquam vulputate ullamcorper</CRYP>
      <CHECK>4282</CHECK>
   </xaro>

I attempted to decrypt, but it's tricky and I don't think I have it. I may be on the right track so I'll put up what I've been doing in a spoiler:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you do Gronsfeld and then do a Keyed Caesar with a shift of 7 and the key of "Donec fringilla" (ie the rest of the KEY phrase) you get the following:

Either I stumbled upon the word "begin" which is the coincidence of the century or I'm missing a step to get the rest of the message... what do you think?

It's an external drive, in the Alberta facility:

Quote:
RESPONSE: The alternate location is an external storage device mounted on a terminal. System path: //ALBERTA/TERMINAL441/DEVICES/ESD_S

Frequencies check out, so I'd agree you're on the right track, posse. Have you tried key-less shifts or different keys?

Ok, this is what I sent to LAINSY. Hopefully it'll be helpful in getting some of these events and facts straight:
Quote:
No, do not display the entire list. Instead, limit to file transfers (and include activity by James Barron within the same time frame and filter). In addition, please list any instances within this period where the account of Joseph Dillinger OR James Barron was logged out and then, within 10 minutes, the account of Althea Rosso was logged in afterwards on the same terminal. make sure to somehow make it apparent if an entry in this list coincides with one on the list requested below.

Also, please provide a list of all sessions of Althea Rosso's account, whether simultaneous or consecutive, on the date of January 16th, and include their physical locations and the proximity of Joseph Dillinger and James Barron to each of them at the time. Within this list, please highlight (make bold or something) the information pertaining to the particular session from which the transfer of all the AMSR files to //ALBERTA/TERMINAL441/DEVICES/ESD_S was made.

Forgot to mention this in my last post: I instructed LAINSY to a) notify Inno and all External Agents, b) collect as much info as possible about the session and its user(s), and c) alert security, in the event that same external drive is detected at any location. Only one of us (or Inno) may disable this alarm.

I also told her to tell this to Inno (and, through him, Althea) so they don't trip it on accident should we find the drive.

EDIT: Already got a reply to my filter. Not the results I was expecting at all. I'll attempt to figure out the significance of the CO2 note and if Althea's badge could have been stolen or cloned.
Quote:
RESPONSE: I have filtered and attampted to match additional data parameters you requested and had ZERO results. It seems no matching data could be found given the provided filters. I have automatically extended the filter paramters to 24 hours from 10 minutes and still found ZERO results. The account of Joseph Dillinger, James Barron, or Althea Rosso has not been recorded to use the same terminal consecutively since January 16 2012 up until March 27 2012.

I have checked logged data regarding the transfer and the requested data is as follows:

During the transfer Althea Rosso was physically present on the said terminal.
Joseph Dillinger was tracked 231 meters away.
James Barron was tracked 196 meters away.
A system note matching the room and time parameters from Environment Control has been found in the duration of the transfer. Note as follows:
High levels of Carbon Dioxide being produced within the room. Attempts to balance air levels failed. No system problems detected. Number of detected people in the room: 1.

EDIT2: I sent LAINSY a follow-up query and also told Inno not to tell Althea about the alarm for now, in case she really is in on it.

EDIT3: Well, no one stole her ID or cloned it, and the CO2 irregularity was only consistent with the presence of additional people in the room. My next thought would be some sort of teleportation and/or cloak used in conjunction with mind control and/or memory erasing. I will query on these technologies and on how many people's worth of CO2 was present.

Also, Inno says that another department is experiencing a similar problem with data loss. I'll ask for more specifics.

EDIT4: LAINSY says there would have been FIVE people in the room. Ugh. Looks like we're completely off here... I'm still waiting for a reply back on the tech search.

According to Inno, the data has been missing, just like our situation, just no one is missing so there were no suspicions. You know, here's a thought that just occurred to me: if all the data was stolen in January, what happened to the data entered since then? Where did they disappear to?

EDIT5: Well, LAINSY rules out teleportation, memory erasing and mind control. There was however, a branch of the Tuncarma Project that had to do with invisibility. While FAILTECH got nowhere with it, I remember that project already being licensed to someone. Perhaps that group was more successful. I asked who it was and also ran another search on holographic disguise (and the like).

So far, Inno says they have no leads on the new incident, but they expect it is connected.

I asked Ryan Bruno about the post-January data being missing, as well, and this was his reply:
Quote:
Hmmm.... Well, I just checked your recent queries with LAINSY and as far as to what she can tell, she doesn't know what happened. However, with regards to your suspicion, it seems there might be something running ON Lainsy which she can't detect. It might be something that allows her to still think everything is going fine even though the data isn't really there. She should be able to notice that there hasn't been any activity on the Team's directory for a long time thus alerting everyone on the Team and the department. However, that wasn't the case. While she was aware that the files were transffered, she didn't know that the files were stolen. AI is so complicated. Maybe because the directory is empty, and she was aware that the files were transffered elsewhere she didn't have to alert anyone. But how did it seems like the files were there to the Team even though it wasn't actually there? I'll check if anything suspicious is running on LAINSY right now. If there is, we might be able to trace it back.

I also asked LAINSY if it could come up with a theory on how the files were stolen. LAINSY suggests the idea of a "ghost network":
Quote:
LAINSY: Unknown. If the transfer was done on January 17 and the files was then last seen on March 25, then there might have been an ghost network established to store the files as they were worked on until March 25 of which the ghost network is shutdown. It is the best possible solution I could devise.

Unfortunately, I asked LAINSY if it could detect a ghost network, and it said it couldn't.

As for the Team Epsilon files, I think I've hit a wall in investigating. In the meantime, I'm focusing on Althea and the PDA she found when looking in James Barron's desk/work area. Althea can't seem to access it and she's afraid that if she sends it to another FAILTECH team to try to reverse-engineer it, she might tip off whoever's behind this. There are 2 people I can think of that could help out -- one being Ryan Bruno (though if someone is monitoring FAILTECH communications, they could notice and be tipped off) and the other being Netspec/Patrice Heinz. So I went ahead and suggested Netspec, I mean why not? Could use some more characters to work with without having to do the "pretend I'm a volunteer" thing. Althea is willing to meet with her in a private location. I've sent an email to netspecSPLATtechnologist.com and am waiting to hear back. I also asked her if she had any experience with ghost networks. I'll let you guys know if I come up with anything.
