[Article] Section 32: The Real American Heroes

As per Mr Shaw's request, I have written the following article for them to publish in the newspapewr - and hopefully on their site as well:

Quote:
Section 32: The Real American Heroes

By Peter Walker, Freelance Reporter

For some time (ever since Section 32's disappearance), Section White has been hogging the news.

In the interest of fair and balanced reporting, I feel compelled to remind the public of the original superhero organization which apparently inspired Section White to come into being when Section 32 disappeared under mysterious circumstances - and, perhaps, shed a little light on the true nature of Section White!

This is from a mission log involving Section 32 and the new 'heroes', Section White, acquired by a reliable source. It's not clear why Section White was at the courthouse, but it's obvious to me that Section White is more sinister than they appear:

CyberStrike: Slash take Jessica and Medic and get the basement of the courthouse. I'll take Twist and Storm, and we'll take the top.

CyberSlash: Of course Strike. Girls, let's go.

*Slash and cohorts exit down L_Wing Steps*

CyberStrike: What the hell is going on...

FireStorm: Dunno Strike. From what I heard, there's a chick with a flamethrower in white armor. What's up with that? I'm the one with the flamethrower.

ChronoTwist: I'm getting some strong energy readings from above by the clock tower. Someone's screwing with my element, and I don't like it.

CyberStrike: I'm getting another reading in the basement. Hopefully Slash can take care of it.

ChronoTwist: I'm sure she can.

Voice: A true leader never splits away from his healer, CyberStrike.

CyberStrike: What the... who the hell are you, Golden boy?

Voice: The new hero of this town.

*Move: Flying Uppercut - Result: CyberStrike through ceiling to roof.

Scene: Rooftop, aside Clock Tower.

Voice: Oh good, you have hover jets. It would have been bad for you if you didn't.

CyberStrike: All right, you got metal wings, good for you. You want a cookie?

!I unsheathed my sword. Man, that guy had me pissed off.

Voice: My name is EagleTalon. I was graced with this suit of power to end your evil reign over this city, and to make followers of it's people.

CyberStrike: What the hell are you smoking?

EagleTalon: No, it's more like what the hell will you be eating. And I believe the answer will be the dirt!

*Move: Wrist Crossbow - Result: Arrow deflected by CyberStrike using the DataKatana.
^Move: Overhead Slash - Result: Connect to breastplate.
*Move: Lightning Jab - Result: Move dodged by CyberStrike.
^Move: Roundhouse Kick - Result: EagleTalon thrown against clock face. EagleTalon hovers next to clock face.

EagleTalon: Good kick, but suck this.

ChronoTwist: Nah, you can suck this. Time Twister - SET MIDNIGHT!

*Move: Time Twister - Result: Arrow and minute hands point to midnight and clip EagleTalon's wings, sending him downwards.

CyberStrike: Bite me. FINAL....... STRIKE!
^Move: Final Strike - Result: Projected Energy sword is caught by EagleTalon's white energy gloves and redirected into the basement of the courthouse.

EagleTalon: I win. *Laugh*

!EagleTalon was caught by this other girl with white armor and bright blue hair. Now who was she? And, oh my god, Slash!

EagleTalon: Section White bids you a farewell, CyberStrike... destroyer of a historical courthouse. Just hope your friends survived. Section White, retreat!

CyberStrike: MEDIC!!!! SLASH!!!!!!!!!!

*Time/Space Flow re-adjustment recorded. Pausing Recording*
*Recording resumed*

CyberSlash: We're up here Strike!

CyberStrike: What the hell... but... you... I... What happened to Twist, why's he down?

!I flew to Twist... he was collapsed on the rooftop.

ChronoTwist: Strike... I had just enough energy for a Rewind. I'm just really really tired man... I need a nap...

Medic: Strike... the police are coming... we need to go...

CyberSlash: I got Twist. Let's get out of here everyone.

---Mission Complete---

Now granted, this is only an extract from the mission log, but judging by this, something fishy is going on - and it involves Section White. Something is definitely rotten in the town of Pottsville, and I have the feeling that Section White is involved.

Also, I recevied this statement from someone calling himself "Special Operative MACAVITY, of Operation: GATECRASHER". He also revealed that he and others knew what had happened to Section 32, and were working to reverse the situation. He told me he couldn't be more specific, but what he did tell me is troubling, to say the least:

"We of Operation: GATECRASHER have been monitoring a situation involving not only the disappearance of Section 32 and the rise of Section White, but also an organization known only as the Shadow Government. I'm afraid I can't be more specific on what we know, as all the pieces are not yet in place for our move against the Shadow Government, but we can tell you this much:

"First, the Shadow Government is responsible for the disappearance of Section 32. The Section was a major impediment to their plans, and is being held prisoner at a certain location. Operation: GATECRASHER was started originally to discover where Section 32 had disappeared to, but - due to information we have uncovered during the course of the investigation - the mandate of Operation: GATECRASHER has been altered, significantly.

"Second, the Shadow Government know we exist and what we're doing, and they are afraid. Their plans are already in motion, but our activities - especially those involving the disappearance of Section 32 - are becoming even more of a threat to their plans. They're afraid, and rightfully so - because when Operation: GATECRASHER is successfully concluded, they know they're going to die. Not in a literal sense, mind you, but more of a social and mental sense. 'Death of personality' would be the most apt description of the result.

"Third, Section White is a pawn of the Shadow Government. Their crimes far outweigh any services they have done the community. Numbered amongst their crimes are: kidnapping (33 counts: one for each member of Section 32 and one more for the abduction of noted programmer Stephen Roberts), coercion (three counts: Stephen Roberts, Laura Freedman, Emily Freedman), and murder (at least one count: the noted archaeologist Dr. Kryer).

"When Operation: GATECRASHER comes to its conclusion, Section White and the Shadow Government will be held accountable for their crimes. I promise this on my honour as a member of Operation: GATECRASHER."

Well, Special Operative, I'm going to be rooting for you and the rest of Operation: GATECRASHER. I just hope that the rest of the populace will read this, and see the truth about Section White.

Nope, I meant "coercion" (which, in the context of criminal law, is quite similar to the crime of indimidation - but whereas intimidation is usually used to stop someone from doing something, coercion is more often used to get someone to do something).[/quote]
