Hard to tell if the PMs are simply trying to attract more web traffic to the PROMETHEUS sites or are attempting to facilitate progress in the game itself.

This implies to me that either there's a 'hidden' clue to the next photo solution online already and they're trying to get our attention back in the right area to find it, or they're simply stalling for time until they're ready to enable the next clue-for-solution in the game schedule by "pinging" the site to stay in fans' news feeds.
