I thought of Cortana first, but then I realized that it didn't sound like her.

LOL. I've been saying Jen Taylor was doing the voice for Durga/Melissa/SP for a while now.

And just who are these two fellows? There in that comercial, two thirds through, before the spikey thing and after the ghost boarding.

I have no clue who they are.

If so thats one freaky Brute compaired to the regular kind. My guess was Elite on the other one but now that I look at it....

Another question to raise is why is the Brute guy hitting the other Elitish guy?

Mhm. But now that I think about it, Cortana's voice is a bit... sharper? More exact, I mean. Enounciates (sp?) a bit more. Durga dosn't do that quite as much, unless she's being really "I'm having fun being psyco!"

If I had to make a guess, I'd say that was a commander type brute. The "gold elite" of brutes. The white hair proably trying to show an older, more experienced brute.

As for the other thingy, I have no idea.

Some voice actors are good at making their voice sound different for
different characters or parts.

[edit:]That is to say, some voice actors' talent not only lies in the sound of their voice, but also how versatile it is. some voice actors have a wonderful sound, but not much range.[/edit]

There's a local Seattle voice actor by the name of Jim Cissel who's done lots of national commercial work because he's pretty good at changing his voice to adjust to the audience and story. Think about how Frank Oz could change his voice to be the voice of Bert, Grover, the Cookie Monster, Miss Piggy, Fozzy, Animal, Sam the Eagle and, of course, Yoda.

Jen's not only the voice of Cortana, but also Princess Peach (Super Mario Bros.), Cate Archer ...

exactly... that's why they call it voice acting.

Yes it does.

I particularly noticed similarity in cadence and tone when compared with "There are things that go bump in the night, Agent Myers. And WE, are the ones, that bump back." That's a line from Hellboy...

And I don't think the voice is actually an AI... but an old, female friend of the Master Chief's who is very closely related to Cortana.

In a manner of speaking.

As for the Brute smacking the other thing... the fact that he's even smacking it reinforces that he's smacking an Elite. The Brutes and Elites don't get along well... or really at all.

It strikes me that my theories about "shades of gray" within the Covenant are becoming clearer.

The voice at the beginning does sound more like Durga than Cortana, though both sound quite similar. I guess Durga tends to sound more mature, older, which makes sense, as she's nearly to the end of her life.

Cortana is - or at least was - very young, very much a child in many respects. This is very evident especially in the books; Cortana is an immensely powerful child playing with immensely powerful toys, and though she has the intelligence to use it well, she doesn't speak with the weight and age that Durga does.
