Off the top of my head...

Dante from 1ofUs (and more specifically from CamMan834)
Edward from TheUndecidedFive
Danny from JackandDannyDiaries

There are probably more, but I just woke up. >_>

No Slender Man activity yet, but he'll be along soon, I'm sure.

Most characters don't really make a point of talking about their sexuality, I guess.

Mostly because it doesn't matter Razz

I hate to be *that* guy, but there's only one R in "protagonists".

Sorry, weird hang-up. When I see misspellings in proximity to the word "gay", then I start looking for trolls. Not calling you one, but, eh....

Wow. I think I just made this a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But yes, I'd applaud more diversity in slender-*logs.

The chance to color outside the overwhelmingly young-straight-white-male lines was one of the reasons I decided to do a vlog myself. Well, that and having a story to tell. But having an older and more diverse social circle was definitely an impetus.

Noticed. Fixed.

I know that in the multiverse that I run, there are several non-hetero characters, but it doesn't come up, so it doesn't matter.

I agree on the point about ethnic diversity in slendervlogs.
But, like homosexuality in a slenderseries, it makes no effect on the lore itself.
Though my series has a bisexual member. It's just not relevant to the series itself Razz

I'm bisexual, myself, but it doesn't effect my story. Sexual orientation and skin color don't matter at all, find it odd that anyone would look for series that has a gay in it specifically because he/she is in the series. In slendy we are all equal, series should be considered by quality and consistency, not titles tacked onto people because the world finds it necessary to label people as one thing or another so it can pigeonhole its biases with ease.

I've spent the last 20-odd years fighting for equality, and inclusivity in media is part of that. It's a habit I don't think I'm really able to break at this point, even if I wanted to. I think it's great that some people in some places can afford to say "it doesn't matter," but until everyone has that luxury I'm going to keep pushing for visibility. Because visibility is stage one on the way to acceptance.

People like to see themselves in media. Simple as that. Connecting with a protagonist who shares traits with you has different connotations than connecting with just any random character.

It's also a viewpoint thing. Slendy is most drawn on Western mythologies and fears. What would a series be like if it had Asian creators and drew from that viewpoint? The Asian concept of horror is very different from ours and could really spice up the mythos, but (to my knowledge) we have no Asian creators, so... who knows what might be. On the same coin, are there African myths that could be incorporated and exploited? South American? Eskimo?

Same goes for gay creators/characters. There's a different set of life experiences and personal fears that they could pull from to create. Even as far as we've come gay teens still experience isolation and separation in a very different way than the average teen, both of which could make powerful elements in a horror story.

This.

Saying "it doesn't matter" (while narratively a reasonable decision) is a pretty loaded thing to say. It has baggage of being a standard backlash against representation of LGBTEtc by suggesting that the desired equality of represention has already been attained, and so further advocacy is irrelevant. It's a common sneak-attack on equality, although more commonly used to attack ongoing reforms with relation to feminism and racial/religous equality.

I'm not actually suggesting that people are doing this consciously, but I think it is important that any media allow for diversity of representation and avoid becoming solely identified with characters pulled from a narrow demographic of society.

EDIT: I mean, if we're talking about even basic diversity, we have a distinct derth of female creators and main characters (of any orientation) in the Slender *log community. I'm fairly certain you could add them up on two hands and still have fingers left. Also, nice post CoA.

Mark of markbabbleing.blogspot.com is gay, but it's mostly an informed attribute. (It's a good blog, BTW)
