Lady posted a cipher on Grace's Blog with an extra msg inside it that I'll treasure. See it by highlighting or pasting the cipher in between all Monday throws atcha.
Lady's hidden message
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Get off your lazy asses and get to work

Well, Lady's hidden msg is missing a "t"...clue or typo & the Jester's (Gigglepuss') cipher might be MD5 or a Blowfish Encryption . That pitiful little is all I've got
EDIT: Noticed in Grace's comments 'Annaz' (Props! Pretty sure she'll see it) had likely googled the 3 PW hints. Feel a cheat to spoiler b/c doing the same I had luck:
1) 'losthighway' opens the file of Stephen Anthony. It reads:
Quote:
Condition: Schizophrenia
History: A chronic drug user whose "extra curricular activities" have fried his brain. A concerned relative tried to flush his drugs in an attempt to intervene, only to be attacked for their troubles. The graphic nature of the victim's wounds and Stephen's many shouts of "I NEED THIS TO SURVIVE" and "THEY WON'T LET ME STOP" lead to his being institutionalized.
Beakman's Notes: I have not confirmed this, but I suspect outside forces may be at play for this case. His screams of "They won't let me stop" point to the Nightlander's possible involvement. More observation is needed at this point before I can say for sure.

CHEAT CODE 6/6: INTERTWINE
2) Caught this fishy myself: 'eraserhead' opens the file of Ruby Walsh. It reads:
Quote:
Condition: Trichophagia
History: Ms. Walsh started eating her own hair when she was in her early teens. It became something of an obsession with her, culminating in an operation where a trichobezoar had to be removed from her stomach. As a consequence, Ms. Walsh insists that that her head be shaved every month.
Beakman's Notes: At first, I thought her obsession was due to ingestion from ichor, but considering she still has it and it has been some time, perhaps not. In any case, still quite an interesting case to study.

3) 'mulhollanddrive' opens the file of Natalia Steiner. It reads:
Quote:
Condition: Violent tendencies. Irrational fear of cats.
History: Natalia Steiner recently graduated college with a degree in Philosophy. She moved into her first apartment over the summer. During this time, cats around the neighborhood began to go missing. It was soon discovered that she had been killing them and keeping their bodies in a trunk in her kitchen. When questioned, she claimed that they were the devil in disguise, come to spy on her.
Beakman's Notes: She has very aggressive mood swings, which makes her somewhat unpredictable. Her fear of cats is what really interests me, however. I wonder if there is some way I could channel that fear into something else?

EDIT: As SixAngel suggested a few days ago 'riverrun' was the April 29th PW opening the file of William Hogarth. It reads:
Quote:
Condition: Suffers from intense paranoia and delusions
History: Once worked in criminal justice. Following a string of gruesome murders, he was arrested by the police. Hogarth maintained that he did not kill anyone, and that a whispering monster had done it. Because of his belief, he was institutionalized. After about a month, he was transported from England to the United States, and placed under Dr. Beakman's care in Shady Lawn Sanitarium. He has begun to slowly recover from his condition.
Beakman's Notes: Appears to have had extended contact with the creature known as "the Rake." This proves an excellent opportunity to study the effects of the Rake's whispers on the human mind.

Oh boy.

I Would Apologize But....
It seems that Gigglepuss FUCKED UP.
You see, the riddle was supposed to be converted to ROT13 and then run through an md5 encryption. BUT, for some reason, the encryption refused to save to any databases Giggles put it through, and the MORON didn't bother to check.
Memo to current and future PM's. Please, please check your puzzles as published. Things can and do go wrong. I believe there is nothing more disheartening to a player than to spend some hard won free time on an unsolvable puzzle.
On a lighter note:
Memo to Secret Service personnel. They get testy if you don't pay 'em.

A trifecta of updates. Am over at http://www.bartleby.com/ attempting to get a handle on Lady's Conundrum with zero joy. Any ideas?....it's open-mike time.

I think this could be the book:
http://therebemonsters.tumblr.com/post/599268253/some-required-reading
Wikipedia has also a list with the monsters, but it might be a different language http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Imaginary_Beings

Welcome to uF, argatha. TY! You found that pointy needle in the haystack. Sadly, am RL busy as a beaver atm but Lady has just added some really useful info:
In addition Lady wrote:
I will admit, this will be a bit harder. Because, you see, you will have to find the correct translation and printing as well. (It's the one from '69. Shh.)

I think this is a reprint of the 1969 edition
It has the list as word doc.
EDIT Or are we looking for the English version?
Edit to remove extra url

thanks for the welcome amandel
I don't think it is the english version, i tried it with the list from english wikipedia and with the table of contents from this book at Amazons Look inside (but that version was not from 69...). The results did not make much sense to me...
I'll try with that version.
EDIT @booba: that version does not fit... we need the tenth letter from the second creature, but in that version the second creature in the list (El Dragon) has not enough letters.
EDIT EDIT: When Lady says we need to find the "correct translation ", does that mean we can rule out the original spanish version?

Hi argatha, booba & all. My belief is we need the 1969 English edition but that book cipher password is making me totally wacko so...
below is the "blowfish" keyword/decryption & an attached jpeg explanation . Am unsure of the riddle's answer but not planning to help the Fester-Jester atm.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Boner (case sensitive) which decrypts as: Whats wrong with this statement?.....my note:all I see is the missing 'apostrophe' but am thick as a brick today
EDIT: Today's not my day *emo sigh*. Just noticed on Jester's page a comment similar to the correct key. It won't decrypt the blowfish but Props to them anyway.

According to this:
http://leepers.us/evelyn/reviews/seres.htm
this should be a reprint of the correct edition:
http://www.cse.iitk.ac.in/users/amit/books/borges-1979-book-of-imaginary.html/
yet the best i can do is
AOEOIERAIRO
Edit: At least one error
tired of counting... This is pretty involved, I wonder if Lady could keep it all straight?

@Jester Riddle: maybe the answer is...
EDIT: Also the Jester wrote:
Quote:
Also, the answer has nothing to do with punctuation. Unfortunately, certain punctuation marks get lost in the coding process. So once it's been decoded, just insert the missing bits where necessary.
@Book Riddle: I haven't made any progress... Do we need to reorder the letters?

amendel- Great job on the blowfish. I was all around it but didn't get to that one.
argatha- Great work and welcome!
Amazon UK has a different version, which I think is the same as I posted above.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Imaginary-Beings-Vintage-classics/dp/0099442639/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1336686254&sr=1-1
Other than that I got nothing.
Edit: This turns out to be the Andrew Hurley version of 2004

Shall I give the answer to the Jester?
The order of the creatures varies wildly depending on the translation. I tried just searching for the table of contents, but I just found that and it is not even complete... http://oxford.wpunj.edu/vufind/Record/30884/TOC
One might find the real book in a library, but no library near me seems to have it.

Sure, argatha, and remember to give Jester your choice of Elimination patient. Also, I took the hopefully appropriate ISBN nbr. to Open Library with zero success.
*feeling thick again 'tho the praise from Clevah Booba is helping me heal. THX*
