Hm, well, the link provided isn't working, but I got something similar (possible the same picture) today as well.

Here's the one I received: https://plus.google.com/photos/116734558237008548140/albums/5744736036063508977

It's three pictures. The pink, gray, and green.

My friend is also playing, she says the three people are William Garwood, Abraham Lincoln, and Violet Mersereau. Garwood and Mersereau are the two actors listed on the IMDB page for The Stake.

No clue on the text yet, she and I are both working on that. I may be a bit slow as I'm also working on the Umbra codes.

At first glance, it definitely looks like a codegroup for a substitution cipher, but this is a little simple for the PM. His puzzles are usually trickier than that, I'd look for a catch. Especially since only the last cell is less than five characters, the codegroup thing is worth looking into.

I'm bowing out on this one, I'm busy for the next two weeks, and I don't want to keep the game from moving. Still, I'll play around with it a little later tonight and see what I can find, if I make any progress I'll post it here for y'all.

Also, for whoever was asking earlier, here's a link to the third chapter of this saga, Vladimir Sirin: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33374

I never played the first or second chapters, but surely someone can fill y'all in.

Hello!
Clues and things!

Hello! I may or may not have flooded some of your facebooks with my realizations as i was puzzling out what i'd received, and also on my sense and a later confirmation from mr. Radillo himself, here is the conversation we had about the e-mail contaiing the cryptogram with the three faces, the three faces being William Garwood, Violet Mersereau and i'm pretty darn sure, Abraham Lincoln.

He's PR and i'm OQ!

PR: Good evening.
OQ: Hello!
OQ: Pleased to meet you
PR: How is Romania this night?
OQ: probably cold
PR: Please to meet you as well.
PR: So you are not there now?
OQ: No, i actually had set that because it wouldn't let me put Cloud City as my hometown
PR: Star Wars fan or?
OQ: Yes, ahaha.
PR: California...
OQ: and Trek though. not into fandom wars
PR: I see. Time, this area at least is pressing. Have you received my email?
OQ: I have! I have the picture up in photoshop as we speak
PR: Ah, such a useful program...
OQ: Trying to figure out who the gray gent is >..o It is indeed! Photoshop is practically my husband
PR: Suh a shame that tineye con't be able to help... [Wink]
won't *
PR: Since you have made me smile this evening, I'd suggest you copy and paste the email to share with others...
OQ: Ooooh, i've never seen that site before!
PR: Who knows what may be discovered once things are shared a little more...
OQ: Others in the game or others in general?
OQ: Oh my, we all got different e-mails didnt we?
PR: That, my dear friend, is up to you.
OQ: Then i shall make my decision!
PR: Now would I be that cruel on the first puzzle?
OQ: I would.
PR: [no is the answer to that question!]
OQ: [ahaha sorry XD]
PR: These chats can also be shared for example.
PR: UNFORtUnately, My ability to talk to people is limited, at the moment, to this chat.
OQ: So i read! And what one may not see, another may
PR: That, and googleplus....
OQ: You're forgiven, this is a wonderful opportunity
PR: Indeed.
PR: And clues hidden within these few messages as well.
PR: Enjoy. Look further and, if you really can't find the grey gent, I'd suggest that you address your fathers...
PR: Good night for now.
OQ: Good night and thank you for your countenance!
PR: You are welcome - two faces with a third.
PR: Enjoy...
OQ: Mix them together and you get a frankenstinian janus horror..
PR: Welcome to the game...
OQ: Glad to be here!

Re: Hello!

....ok, this is a really wild guess, but about the numerical values of each letter in the square? like multiple, add, divide and all that..? i'll test it when i get back,... unless someone else does it first, be my guest!

........do you think it's a date cipher? Like if we take their births date or deaths date or some and use that a key to get the letters decoded?

Image Puzzle Text

I'm still puzzling about this, of course, but if it helps anyone else to have the text typed out, here you go. I /may/ have typos, but I tried to check and double-check. More eyes, more checking, more accurate, of course. I also may have mixed up O/Q or J/L/I because I wasn't 100% sure with the image quality. I tried to zoom in and see where the pixels were, but... yar.

Though, I'll also note that there's some overlap with the Lincoln pic. You can see his eye and eyebrow going over into the William Garwood side pretty clearly.

If you assume that Lincoln goes 5 columns, centered, then...

Lincoln (5 columns):

I'm not the most expert at figuring out ciphers, but I'll keep trying, but go for it, and if it helps anyone, woot!

Hello!
Patrick Peterson!

I was chatting with Patrick Peterson on Facebook (he currently cannot find his pass/un to this site) and this is the insight he provided!

-Quote Patrick: "So, either I'm on a roll of ideas or I'm jumping to conclusions from being tired. However, William Garwood's Picture isn't Red. It's copper. Mereserau or whatever's picture is green. Both of these colors corelate to Lincoln in that he is on the penny and the five dollar bill. This would be two faces-and the third being Lincoln.

The theory to money can be back by the fact that "stakes" refer to a sum of money. Both Garwood and Mereserau were in the movie called stakes.

Five seems to be a repetitive number that they are correlating to Lincoln. There are five letters per block. Lincoln is on the Five Dollar bill. 2 faces plus a 3rd. And that's all I have so far. But I'm close to solving it I think. Confused

Doesn't help the fact that there are five columns for the copper space and green space. This puzzle is riddled with fives."

-Quote Me: "hey! do you think that the sum of the money as in penny is 1 and dollar is 5 has to do with adding or subtracting or whatevering the letters? i have a thought that each box is only one letter

it makes more sense at the moment that as opposed to 120 five letter words and 1 four letter, it'd be 121 letters. but at the same time, i'm no sure that sense is really a factor"

-Quote Patrick: "If this really is money related than I think the key to solving this puzzle is actually in the picture. As in, watermarks and security threads to prove the authenticity of the money. Lincoln was the Watermark. Barely visible but apparent enough to guide us. However, we lack the security thread at the moment."

If the lincoln goes five squares as well, i guess the money sums or that sort would be + whatever the overlapping lincoln means.

Thanks Que! Manage to find my name and pass. Anyways, here it is:
I think I'm on to the path of cracking this puzzle. It's all monetary related.

I had originally thought that Garwood's picture was red. However, after reexamining it is much more dull. That's because it's a copper and not a red tone. And, Mereserau or whatever's picture is green.

There is a simple reasoning behind this and Lincoln is the key to this. Why? Because Lincoln is both on the Penny(copper) and the Five-Dollar Bill(Green). But, why else is Lincoln there? Just barely visible in the background? Because he's being used as a watermark, as seen on most "paper" currency.

But that explains Lincoln's role. However, what is Garwood's and Mereserau's role? Well, it's to back up Lincoln! They both played roles in a movie called The Stake. Stakes are typically wagers of monetary sum. They were the leads to the money route.

I have a feeling that the key to this is finding the "security thread". There are far too many fives involved in this to just glance over. There are five columns on both the Copper side and the Green side. There are five letters per block. Lincoln is also on the five-dollar bill as well.

But, that's my thoughts on this matter but I still haven't solved it yet. Bluh.

Yes, I know things are moving on somewhat from the first initial clues but this one:

Twitter wrote:
He had it coming - 180 years ago today, he saw himself as alive and I see him as dead. Continuity error? Or just a function?

is, I am assuming (based on the clues on his twitter feed, etc), in reference to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Rudolph Lipschitz...mathematician born 14 May 1832 & discoverer of Lipschitz continuity (a mathmatical function)

Given that he seems to go on about this person quite a bit, I wonder if it has anything to do with solving the Lincoln picture puzzle?

I haven't played any prior games by this PM but it sounds intriguing so far. I IMed him on Facebook in reference to the person above...will see what he comes back with...

So I've been working on a frequency analysis for the text in the image. If it is a substitution cypher, our PM picked it specifically to make frequency analysis almost impossible. The distribution of letters only ranges from 2.37% to 5.41% - as opposed to the general English language distribution, which runs from .074% to 12.702%. There is probably some type of ROT or something, though, because the frequency of directly repeated letters (particularly SS) lines up almost exactly with what would be expected. So I think for the time being I'm going to bench the cypher idea and look at it from a new direction. I can't upload the doc here, it's the wrong filetype, but if anyone wants a look at my frequency analysis spreadsheet, shoot me an email at QuintusSeptimeSPLATyahoo.com

Ok...so judging by his latest tweet in response to mine, the person I mentioned has nothing to do with this puzzle at the moment. As you were... Confused

New faceboo chat i just had with the Puppeteer! Loaded with things! Started at 10:55PST. I attached on the last bit from the last conversation, mostly because it bleeds into this conversation. Either way, enjoy!

PR: Welcome to the game...
OQ: Glad to be here!
OQ: And i love you Q..Q http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/27/Abraham_Lincoln_by_Alexander_Helser,_1860-crop.jpg/170px-Abraham_Lincoln_by_Alexander_Helser,_1860-crop.jpg
PR: Well - thanks for the admiration. Had to be sitting down for that one!
OQ: Awww, but falling to the floor in a weak kneed heap is half the fun!
PR: As I said... clues...
OQ: clues and solutions!
OQ: so how has your night been?
PR: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
PR: *grin*
PR: You know how it is - sitting down, reading.
OQ: i'd be sleeping too, but im wired on baileys, vodka, mystery and coffee
PR: A good range there
OQ: reading miraculous things?
PR: I have to go. (11:06)
OQ: it is! i assume it helps me think, but then again!
OQ: good luck and good night!
PR: Good morning...
OQ: oh my, east coast?
PR: GMT.
OQ: ohhhh
OQ: the middle
PR: The very meridian...
OQ: !
PR: A ten minute drive from 0.
PR: The origin.
PR: The beginning of time.
PR: But, that, my fair one, is later. For now, you have reading to do.
OQ: jesus' bratty years, and i do indeed! thank you!
PR: Catch me at certain times and I'm more helpful than others...
OQ: the wee hours?
PR: You'll have to find out...
OQ: or the gingerbread man..
PR:http://lincolnslunch.blogspot.co.uk/2010/11/abraham-lincoln-gingerbread-men-cookies.html clues...
[Wink]
OQ:ahaha that sounds adorably delicious! also sweet madness i love baking!
OQ: i'll scour with pride, my good puppeteer
PR:Well good puppet, ensure that you do. Enjoy.
OQ: i'll try not to tangle my strings
PR: Good night/good morning for now though.
OQ: good hour to you too!

Welp, now what's 10 minutes from Greenwich?

oh wait, also i think lincoln is the meridian due to the gray line thing, but i might be mixing up clues.

More fun facts pertaining to Lincoln and 17, from my friend Jenee.

-Lincoln proposed a seventeen point plan a little before he died.
-Lincoln's coffin was moved seventeen times.
-The moving of the Union soldiers' bodies from Gettysburg Battlefield began on October 17th.
-17 acres of pasture was purchased for the cemetery for the soldiers who fell at Gettysburg. It was at the dedication of that cemetery that Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address.

>.<

Also. I have time tomorrow. Those look delicious. I might have to get some molasses and make me some ginger bread cookies. Maybe a bit of baking will get my brain working.
