Hmm. I can take the Woodstock & 82nd axons, although I'll probably need to skip the 16:39 Lamphier one to make the 16:55 Reed one. I don't know NW at all, and it's a bit tough for me to get downtown.

If I actually manage to wake up then I can get the 9:48 10th and Hoyt axon and the Beaverton one whenever that is. That's probably all I can make this next time. $1.95 for unleaded is killer, I guess I should be happy I don't live in Europe.

scully, ouroboros, and vector, can you guys help with any axons this next time?

Excellent. That only leaves a few issues:

1) Can you guys in Euguene take the Valley River Center axons, pretty please with a cherry on top?

2) Does anybody live in Lincoln--oh, never mind...

3) I can take _either_ the Lamphier axon or the downtown one, but not both. Is there anybody else who can take either one?

And remember, this is a preliminary list; if anybody wants to remove their name from an axon, or sign up for an axon that somebody else already has signed up for, feel free. We aren't a real army, after all Wink

(Just respond quick; Tuesday's not very far away!)

Okay! This sounds great! Go Axon Team Go! Turtle Power! Portlandia Company... MARCH!!

(Or... Spazeroids! Spazeragize! Up, up, and awaaaayy!!)

I can't cover the Eugene axons. No matter how much I want to, I have prior engagements. If they where 30 min earlier or later I could, but alas it is not so.

'Sokay, Quingy; we'll see if Slacktron is willing to take them. Hey, Slacktron! You gonna-- Yeah, I know you just had a baby!-- Look, what's more important, fatherhood or axon hunting? .... oh, nevermind.

By the way, I think I'm going to take the 6th and Stark axon instead of the Lamphier one, but if you want to take it instead, definitely speak up; I'll get the Lamphier one and we'll have every axon in Portland covered.

(And Slacktron, I'm just kidding, I promise... okay, maybe it was a totally inappropriate ribbing... but, you know... aw man... Crying or Very sad)

Sorry about that, Slacktron, I don't know what I was drinking. (The crying smiley, I assure you, was meant to represent dissappointment in myself for the way I handled my one-sided conversation. You see? Funny! Only when I reread it did I realize it sounded like something totally different. You know, I'm going to keep my one sided conversations to myself now.)

MOST OF THE AXONS HAVE CHANGED by at least one minute! I have the updated list, complete with group names, right here. Take 'em away!

When I get a call from the Sleeping Princess at my first axon, I do this: Very Happy

I'll tell you about it soon. She says she's 99.8% sure Kamal is her brother! And she added me to the crew roster. Yippee!

Don't beat yourself up on my account. Smile Sorry I haven't been able to cover. I actually did make it to the phones last week but Mel didn't recognize my answers (it was "reach", right?). This week, the calls came too early and I absolutely could not drag myself out of bed.
See, my new daughter is some kind of comedienne, and finds it amusing to sleep all day and wake up at midnigt, 1:00 am, 3:00 am, and 5:00. So I'm pretty much zombified by dawn.
The good news is that I go back to work next week, so I can catch up on my sleep. Wink

Oh, and Slacktron; if I ever have to send another picture of us at an axon to Melissa again, I am SO going to put a picture of your daughter on a nearby pillar first. I promise.

See? It'll be the Pillar of Autumn! Oh, never mind...

Now that's funny. I go offline for a few days and I miss out on great stuff like this. Smile

Okay! Gotta be quick 'cause I gotta get my next axon soon!

At 8:31, I got my call at fourth and Stark, the Princess answered, and she asked for my name. I told her "Cherry Cotton," and she said that was beautiful, and asked how I got it. Not wanting to tell her the truth (I made it up), I told her that my friends gave it to me, as they are great. She said it made her think of a story, about bunnies and cherries, so she asked me to make up a story...

Now, making up stories on the spot happens to be a specialty of mine, so I was VERY dissappointed in myself for not getting more sleep today... so my story was something like "Once upon a time there was a rabbit who loved cherries, so she set up a cherry restaurant... but then the evil Cherrybucks came into town because they wanted to rule the cherry industry." I said something about how all the townsfolk helped her restaurant become successful because they did not want homogenized corporate cherries, but the Sleeping Princess noticed the weakness in my narrative and asked, "did they help the bunny win?" So I continued, saying that Cherrybucks had tried one last gambit: a giant robot. "Giant robots are scary!" she gasped. I assured her that no, they had found the robot's weak point: corn. (I was STUMPED.) So they put ears of corn in the robot's control center and the robot exploded. ...

Okay, so it's not Shakespeare. You try to make up a story into a payphone at (yada yada yada)... So she told me she was happy because she was going to see her brother on Sunday, and I asked her who her brother was, and she said "Kamal!" quite proudly. She said that she's been listening to the same transmissions that we've been listening to, and she is 99.8% sure that Kamal is her brother.

...Oh, man, I've got more axons to cover! I'll finish this later. Bye bye!

Ha! I have RETURNED! I have another axon in an hour and a half... twenty minutes remaining on the computer... aaaahh!!!
(edit: I was referring to the computer at the library, for those I confused)

Okay! Go!

So then she asked me about MY family, and who would miss me if I were gone... I told her about my dad, who's away in Atlanta, and he's about to go to Russia (he loves Russia), but he's coming back for my birthday... "Your birthday?" she asked. "Yes, it's on Thursday," I told her, so she sang happy birthday to me! "Aww, I wish I had a cupcake!" she said. "Don't worry, it's the thought that counts," I told her.

(You have no idea how happy I am that my eighteenth birthday has been blessed by an advanced AI program from the future. No idea.)

She asked me about Russia ("Is it far from your house?") and I told her it was on the other side of the world from where I live, in America, and she asked me if it was pretty in Russia, and I said yes. I told her that I had never been to Russia, but my dad loves it and we have paintings in our house of the beautiful buildings that are there.

Then she started to get sad because she said she was worried that her family might have forgotten her, that she might come back and nobody remembers her... she started to cry, and I assured her that they remember her, and finally, I said firmly, "Kamal remembers you. He misses you. He'll love to see you again."

That seemed to convince her. She told me she loved me, and that she'll miss all of us ("you're the ones who brought me home"), and she was wondering if we'd miss her, and I said definitely we'll miss you, that we'll remember her when she's gone. She told me that when she's going back to her own time, she will be leaving all of us, and that makes her sad; and I let her know that I would miss her, but I was happy for her to be meeting her family again.

She asked if there was anybody else with me, and I was a bit embarrassed to say "no" because she had been talking so positively about our community, so I told her that there was no one with me, but there was a whole group of us in Portland, working together in this, and I asked (a bit obtrusively) "want to hear about them?" (It would have been really, really neat to get to plug the whole crew...) Alas, she told me that the Queen was coming, shrieked, and hung up. O_O

(Don't worry, friends; she's been calling people all day, so she obviously escaped all right.)

So! That's today's Sleeping Princess story!

5/5 for today's axons. Incidentally, has anyone ever tried to call the Operator back? I got the number on my cell phone. I'm probably going to try once today's run is over.
