OOG: The Deleted Blog/Vlog Phenomenon

Has anyone else noticed a lot of creators deleting vlogs or blogs rather than simply letting them go inactive? It's a trend I've been noticing recently, especially with vlogs. I understand that creators have the final say for what happens to their creations, but it disturbs me that portions of the mythos, a shared community of ideas, are disappearing because the authors aren't willing to keep the videos up for whatever reasons.

Do any other creators have insight into this recent rash of deletings? Are we just noticing the deletions now or is this a new thing? Should we be concerned?

My little theory on this recent phenomenon?: I like to think that Slenderman doesn't like all of this attention. So he is erasing the blogs and vlogs himself to avoid any attention. The less you know, the scarier he is.

I'm sorry, but no. Simply turning a blind eye and trying to justify deletion with an IG excuse is not going to help. The fact is that creators are deleting their blogs and vlogs fairly often, which, in a Mythos as interconnected as the Slenderverse, means that every deletion just makes the Mythos a little bit more inaccessible to newcomers. Creators also need to consider that even if they do not wish to continue writing their blog or filming their vlog, others may still want to go back and read/watch it. Not to mention the fact that it only makes those who never got the chance to watch it feel cheated. It's like if an artist takes months making a painting only to destroy it once he is done because of some perceived imperfection, thereby depriving everyone from ever getting a chance to see the painting again just because of the artists selfishness.

Exactly. Ha ha... besides, the creators can delete their work if they want. They have complete control over it.

It's just not Google deleting inactive accounts though. At least in a few cases, creators have been actively deleting channels or making the videos private, making them inaccessible. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but google doesn't have control over blogspot, does it? Because there have definitely been some deleted blogs as well.

AlexfromtheMarbleHornets has a point about the way the mythos is interconnected. Crossovers mean putting a little bit of your art, however incomplete, into someone else's...now it's not just the creator's, it's also the person's who you crossovered with.

It's a little frustrating.

This isn't exactly a new phenomenon.

Behold, a post from March 30, 2011: "Dear Everyone: Please Stop Deleting Your Blogs"

Heh, the post with "I'm sorry. . ." just wreaks of silly Internet minutiae. Like Punkster-Kraska said, they have complete control of their work.

If you want to preserve every series, maintain a database. Save each post as a text document, etc. If you don't think it's worth the effort, it may not be worth saving.

Some creators (in any realm, not just in the Verse) feel that they practice and improve with time. Perhaps some don't want their outdated work embedded on the Internet, highly visible.

For text series, at least, I know that if you can track down their RSS feed, even if it is wiped, and then "subscribe" to it in a reader (Google Reader), you may have access to all of their past posts, if you're really desperate for the content.

Okay, first, you only said that once. Second, I did read the thread it's just that saying 'Google have been deleting inactive accounts lately' without anything else backing up your poorly worded claim simply isn't enough to convince me. Third, it seems a bit hypocritical to accuse anyone else of raging when half of your post just now was in caps lock.

Creators deleting their works is nothing new. That kind of stuff dates back all the way to the birth of the mythos. It sucks, but it happens. Just gotta deal with it.

Also, Google/Youtube has been deleting inactive accounts lately, there's been a bit of controversy over it because they may or may not be not just deleting inactive accounts.
