Spec: Dale is Sarah

This may be totally wild speculations, but it's what I think, so here goes …

I believe that Dale is Sarah, the girl who came out of the Barrens after 'the accident'… and that Sarah is a boy, the child who was traumatized after an even earlier event called 'the accident'.

Some time ago, a set of Dobbs twins were born, a boy and a girl. Some time later, something called 'the accident' (?) happened and the girl died. The already traumatized boy heard his mother say that it should have been him (that died), not her (the girl twin). He would have done anything to have his twin back and to have his mom love him … even to the point of 'sacrificing' himself so that his twin might live! Slowly, he began to dress like her, his mom seemed to like that … the boy died 'a living death' so the dead girl might live. Later, another event called 'the accident' (?) happened. In amongst the group of children who came out of the Barrens was a young girl who was adopted by the Wyatt's. They named her Sarah, then they found out that 'she' was a 'he'… but they 'hid the secret'! As a teen, it became harder, then impossible, to hide his true gender. When Dale left for the university, Sarah 'disappeared'!

I believe that Sarah/Dale 'fell' deeper and deeper into the world of fragmentation, of multiple personalities, of chaos … as each traumatic event, always referred to as 'the accident', happened in his life. So what makes Sarah/Dale's mind 'tick'?

What adds up in CTW anyway?

Quoting Pete Townshend:

"I'm a boy, I'm a boy, but my mom won't admit it.
I'm a boy, I'm a boy but if I say I am, I get it..."

Me thinks someone has been reading too much manga. I happen to know which story you're referring too as well... Rolling Eyes

Problem with your idea is the age difference.
Dale is in his mid thirties to early 40s.
Sarah would've been 25 this year.

Sarah being Meaghan, either a future one or one from an alternate universe is more likely.

Artistic skill, the whole sister bit during Dale's trip, the anger displayed towards Diana, the sadness she feels when she looks at Dale. etc

Just seems to fit better.

More speculations … (warning; long post)

If Dale is a 'multiple' (MPD), as I suggested, then the Aglaura he created in his mind is the chaotic 'universe' of a 'fragmented' mind … a place where time is irrelevant (though time is relevant to/for the 'real' Dale of our world). No matter how many characters, how old, or what sex they are when they appear (born) in the 'community' of his mind, they are all (fragments of) Dale … therefore the same age as Dale who is the creator (master/mind) of that universe. Yet, in Dale's fragmented mind, they are all different people of different ages, each one created at a different time for a different purpose … all connected yet disconnected to/from Dale and each other.

Sarah, Diana and Meaghan are three important fragments of Dale's mind, a place where they can be anything (sister, wife, mother, daughter, etc.) … and the mind is an alternate universe. Also, if Dale is (about) 40 years old, he is (about) the same age as the Dobbs twins are… supposing they are alive today, which we have no proof of! Could he also be the twins?

Perhaps Dale's MPD began after 'the accident' in childhood (PTSD) and grew worse over the years, but it is 'the accident' in Feb. 2003 that drove him over the edge … near the point of no return … having to make a choice between life and death. If he chooses life, he will need to discover who/what he is and he must begin to integrate his different personalities (good and evil, young and old, male and female, etc.), at least to the point of peaceful co-habitation between all the entities who live inside his mind/body/community/universe (A Mythosphere? A Klepsydra?). Each character must understand that, though everyone is different, they all inhabit the same 'one' universe … a universe bigger than just Sarah/Dale.

Integration may be the way Dale will be 'reunited with his family' who is dead in his mind, yet not dead since they never existed except as a fragment of himself. They will die when Dale's mind dies. If Dale does not integrate (synthesis; therefore synthasia?) his personalities, the stress of having so many people occupy his body (no wonder Dale is so tired) will eventually kill him, possibly through a (or another) heart attack.

Dale has asked for help and we must choose how to help him. For me (as I currently view CTW), it will be through the process of integration. It will not be an easy process as I am sure each character will argue that s/he is the 'real' person, which they all are … since each one occupies a body … except that it is the same body! They will not 'see' themselves as what they really are … a 'fragment/figment' of Dale's imagination.

But there are two Aglaura towns …
