rex velvet
the emerald city's super villain

do we know if this is a possible arg?

this was released today http://www.comicsblend.com/ and i'm wondering if this velvet-endorsed "easter egg" with the (long awaited and anticipated) confirmation of kick ass 2 going into production yesterday, these are linked.

for those of you who have not been following the development of phoenix jones, there was speculation that the sequel might center around the uprising of the villains...

even if jones and his group is not connected to an arg, these rex velvet productions seem too well-funded and produced to not be something more than a public forum to talk about vigilanteism... i don't know, let me know what you guys think...

You think Fodor was willing to risk a criminal record for an ARG?
That seems like a stretch.

If this is an ARG, I'll be staying clear of it, despite living in Tacoma. I have no desire to get maced by lunatic vigilantes (or anyone else.)

staging

i think the fact that the day before the public announcement of the movie, rex launched his social media attack, and the day after it was announced, he released a self-proclaimed easter egg, feel it's worth keeping an eye on... even if it's not related to the movie, it's worth looking into... but never underestimate a movie studio's willingness to promote buzz about movies they know people will want to see...

like i said, jones may not be involved in the arg; it could just be a coincidence in timing that this is going down or it could be that the all the studio needed to proceed with production, was a story- maybe the story of the rise of a "social villains alliance"

idk... if it's not it's not... but i think it's odd

Timing

Re: timing--I did not know about the timing of the Kickass announcements, but as a resident of downtown Seattle, here is my take on events:

May 1st was the Workers' General Strike. One protest march got particularly out of hand and erupted into vandalism/violence in Westlake. Phoenix Jones attempted to stop some protestors from throwing rocks.

The march moved further on to the courthouse, where Phoenix Jones then pepper-sprayed a crowd of people, including but not limited to protestors. Among these was at least one person taking photographs (Baconcat on Slog).

This link covers some of that. Many comments on the article disapprove of Jones' actions.

The above article was my first introduction to Rex Velvet. As you can see, RV's initial Youtube video was posted May 1. I believe it was posted after the pepper-spraying incident. I thought at the time that it had to have been prepared in advance, as the production values seemed far too high for a rush job in response to the public disapproval of Phoenix Jones' actions during the May Day riot.

I am fairly sure that Phoenix Jones is not treating this as a game, though Rex Velvet may be another matter. However, I do question the timing--would it have been acceptable/appropriate to a promotion company to take advantage of PJ's PR fiasco and release the video anyway, riding the waves of public discontent? (I will admit that upon seeing the video my first thought was not "game or promo." It was "well, there goes the neighborhood.")

5/8, Rex Velvet posts his second video. (Sweet car, dude.)

Then there's also the matter of this Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RocketLaunchProductions

They seem to be the ones doing Velvet's PVs, but there's no information as to whether he is an internal marketing ploy or a client of the company.

Rex Velvet supposedly gave a radio interview this morning (or yesterday? not sure), but I have yet to listen to it. Has anyone got a link?
PJ is supposed to have also been on the radio acknowledging Velvet and his "SVA." I am not sure what channel or if transcripts are available.

I cannot find the link ATM (I swear it was HuffPo but Google tells me I'm mistaken) but I read an article suggesting that Rex Velvet is just fed up with how our local superheroes obstruct justice more than they protect it, and that this is a playful way to tell them to cut the crap. Not sure I buy this due to the high production values.

(Sorry for the long post; this one particularly interests me. I've been dying to have an ARG staged locally to me, though I don't think this is one. Given that at least PJ takes himself seriously, though, I'm kind of annoyed that these two are using my neighborhood as the staging ground for their pissing contest.)

ok this is getting ridiculous... he's "invaded" a movie theatre, done a radio show, and has now apparently "kidnapped" a super hero according to his latest post on facebook...

if this doesn't scream arg, then idk what this is

I just sent him an e-mail asking if I could help even though I'm on the East coast. I'll let you all know if I get a reply.
