We're back on again; spoke with Pietro this afternoon. Innocence had their solution in first, but we were both spot on. Innocence will have the first move.

Additionally, an email was sent bcc to my email address which addressed the Kings. I would wager than epiphany received the same email, but I have no idea who else it might have been sent to.

The text of the email follows:

Quote:
Kings

What is the pawns value to you? Their existence flickrs back and forth, like images in the night...
Closing ranks between lines unseen
Tell me their true value to assign your 8 names...
Images hidden from main view

Puppeteer

From this, I've found Pietro's flickr account (search by his email address). There are a 8 pictures per side to be used in the naming of the pawns.

I will add to this post as more information arises.

EDIT: Adding conversation

Quote:
9:15 AM me: Hello, Pietro.
Pietro: Hellol
Hello.
9:16 AM me: How are you this afternoon?
Pietro: Busy - many tasks to get done.
Yourself?
9:17 AM me: Much the same as you, actually. But I've taken some time out to think about Revolutionary things...
Pietro: Ah, five of them?
Wink
9:18 AM me: Haha
Maybe some from a bit earlier than the 1950's.
9:19 AM Pietro: Now you have me confused; my reference was definitely pre-Victorian....
9:20 AM me: Ah, almost seemed like an allusion to Castro for a moment. With his "Five Revolutionary Laws."
9:21 AM Pietro: Ah, of course, sometimes a cigar...
Are you well? You have found the images I assume?
me: More Keller than Castro?
9:22 AM I have indeed. I am trying to connect them without over thinking.
Pietro: Enjoy... get your new court to assist...
me: Ha, I like that we've come from Freud to Havana with cigars.
9:23 AM Pietro: Glad you are happy. This is how my brain works all the time - it can be disorientating for some, enlightening for others - ultimately, though, human...
9:25 AM me: Human... That covers a wider descriptive range than most realize, doesn't it?
9:26 AM I'm sure Turing would agree.
Pietro: Yes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human
Yes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test

The pawns (photos on PR's flickr site) for the Innocent Values:

1. Issac Newton (What are pawns worth?)
2. Edinburgh Coat of Arms
3. Cardiff Coat of Arms
4. Belfast Coat of Arms
5. City of London Coat of Arms
6. Welsh Coat of Arms
7. Royal Crown of Scotland (and Thistle?)
8. Virgil Reading the Aeneid to Augustus and Octavia

Are these the pawns or do we choose one of the eight for their worth?

EDIT: Whilst I am technically on the side of Innocence, sometimes it is useful to know all sides of the question:

Values of experience...

1. Mary Rose
2. DNA
3. Charles Dickens
4. Design for the medallion of the Committee for the Abolition of the Slave Trade
5. Florence Nightingale
6. Charles Darwin
7. Looks like an old letter, but the language looks modern day English (Might be to do with treason) (What are pawns worth?)
8. Guglielmo Marconi

If these are pawns you've got to wonder about the nature of the board itself.

Old letter comes from:
http://ancienthackney.blogspot.com/2010/10/gunpowder-plot-guy-fawkes-night.html

The letter reads:
Quote:

My Lord, out of the love I bear to some of your friends, I have a care of your preservation. Therefore I would advise you, as you tender your life, to devise some excuse to shift your attendance at this parliament; for God and man hath concurred to punish the wickedness of this time. And think not slightly of this advertisement, but retire yourself into your country where you may expect the event in safety. For though there be no appearance of any stir, yet I say they shall receive a terrible blow this Parliament; and yet they shall not see who hurts them. This counsel is not to be condemned because it may do you good and can do you no harm; for the danger is passed as soon as you have burnt the letter. And I hope God will give you the grace to make good use of it, to whose holy protection I commend you.

Addressed to Lord Monteagle, and titled the Monteagle Letter, warns Lord Monteagle to stay away from parliament on the day of the plot.

So, while watching Merlin(Mark of Nimeuh, actually) I accidentally stumbled upon the answer. I decided to look up the meanings of the crest words. However, the drop down for google kept suggesting the words were also on pounds. So with luck I discovered what lead to the answers, pounds.

Epiphany and Levi figured out the rest:
1 pound for innocence
2 for experience.

Chat with PR, after submitting pawn solution, before the cipher in QuintusSeptime's previous post:

Quote:
Pietro: Both kings on at one time,...
me: My counterpart seems to see an end to the day as I am beginning mine.
Pietro: Just a quick message to get you both talking...
So are the ends that oppose each other - almost seems planned that way...
As one day starts, another's night begins
me: Design and chance can be almost indistinguishable under certain conditions.
Pietro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ba2h9tqNYAo
This condition...
Or another?
me: I am impressed by your ability to produce that which is fitting from thin air, signore. Wink
Pietro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J249urOZyo8
Is the other side of the coin... Wink
ones and twos...
me: Is that what the Kings are, then? Two sides of one coin?
Pietro: All about taking terns I suppose...,
me: The Janus dilemma?
Pietro: Dpeneds on which way your faces are facing...
Depends*
me: That seems so very feng shui
Pietro: Aligning your answers can be energising, agreed...
Heads or Tails?
me: A phrase from the playgrounds of my youth: "Tails never fails."
Pietro: epiphany revelation 3:07 PM
I always preferred heads
Seems like you are both sides of the same coin after all...
Until later - good day/night
me: That's almost unnerving...
Until then, puppeteer.
Pietro: (A)

Alrighty. So to sum up...PR posted images of each side's pawns over on his flickr account. There were a couple of conversations with PR between various people (that I won't post to save space but they were put up on the Skype group) that hinted in a roundabout way we were looking at something in the UK that connected all of the pieces...& we needed to focus on circles.

SkelJelly made a connection which can best be described as:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

http://www.royalmint.com/discover/uk-coins/coin-design-and-specifications/one-pound-coin
http://www.royalmint.com/discover/uk-coins/coin-design-and-specifications/two-pound-coin

The pawns for Innocence can all be found on the UK £1 coin; the pawns for Experience can all be found on the UK £2 coin.

Therefore the values for I = £1 & for E = £2

Pietro sent an email to both of the Kings confirming this was the correct answer. Seems Experience also scored a bonus for getting their email in first. No knowledge of what that is, though.

I also had a conversation with him...part of which was as follows:
Quote:

Pietro Radillo: Now, talk closely to your pieces, and prepare for the game - all you have to do is find the room now...
me: The room?
Pietro Radillo: Yes. But more on that later... Question - why did I choose THOSE particular coins and not, say, the first 8, last 8 etc...
enjoy...

We were also both informed we have to assign pawns to players. So, again, if you would like to be a piece...please let RedMosquito or myself know. We are both avail here & over at the Pietro Radillo group on Facebook (if you look for Pietro Radillo onFB, we are both listed as his friends however, RedMosquito is Levi & I am Amy).

Now...on to the joint conversation with Pietro that RedMosquito refers to. Here's my side of the conversation that was going on at the same time:

Quote:
Pietro Radillo: Both kings on at one time,...
me: Such is the benefits of the weekend
Pietro Radillo: So it seems...
Just a quick message to get you both talking...
As one day starts, another's night begins
me: Time is always relative
Pietro Radillo: You'd have to talk to my mother about that...
me: As opposed to your Father?
Pietro Radillo: Father - ah - therein lies a problem to be examined another day...
me: hmmm...curious. My Father was never very good with Time. Although I always preferred a good Dr's viewpoint. Shame I don't have any Drs as relatives...
Pietro Radillo: Who does?
me: No one ever has one when they need one...lol
Pietro Radillo: Heads or Tails?
me: I always preferred heads
Pietro Radillo: A phrase from the playgrounds of my youth: "Tails never fails."
levi voland 3:08 PM
A phrase from the playgrounds of my youth: "Tails never fails."
Seems like you are both sides of the same coin after all...
Until later - good day/night

I'll take either the Belfast Coat of Arms or the Welsh Coat of Arms.

(Weird game indeed)

Well done on the pound solution.

lost and found
odd coins

Jeesh - I hadn't seen a pound coin in the last ten years or so. (And I'm not even sure what they are putting on U.S. or Mexican coinage these days.)

Sharp eyes and the natural attraction to shiny objects?

9 people have volunteered to take on a pawn each...we still need 7 more volunteers. I've contacted everyone on Pietro's FB friends list but probably missed a few people. From what we can gather, the chess game won't start until we've assembled the board. So if you'd like to join the fun, please let either RedMosquito (Levi on FB) or myself (Amy on FB) know. Thanks heaps!

I don't think it's even a matter of giving personal details (although I've also heard this PM is good with not misusing them). Red Mosquito & I just want to make sure we only nominate players who *want* to be nominated. We have to nominate 16 players to be pawns on the board...we'd just prefer we have their permission to nominate them before we do Razz

***Edited to add***
10 down, 6 to go

***Edited again to add***
12 down, 4 to go

***Edited yet again to add***
14 down, 2 to go

Congrats Rory and this solves your cipher
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's ROT25 and reads: HOLD INFINIT IN THE PALM? That's similar to a quote from William Blake's - Auguries of Innocence

EDIT: My ladybug instincts are whispering that this solve may also be an anagram for you, Rory. Maybe 'help in mail to find hint'? or vice versa...

Only 2 pawns needed now. So close! Surely there are two people out there who would like to volunteer themselves to be a chess piece?! The sooner we fill the board, the sooner Pietro's game can begin!
