If its only mildly bad,I'd still enjoy the series, just as I still enjoyed the first three seasons of bleach, before it started to suck. That being said, if the ending completely destroys all we understand about the series, and leave us with only crap, (e.g. it was all a prank on Jay.) then I would lose all enjoyment in the series.

My caring about the ending depends on what happens beforehand.

At some point during this season, at least a few entries before the finale, I want most of the mysteries to be solved so we know whats actually going on. We'll know what the bad guys are trying to do, and what the good guys gotta do to stop them. That way, the audience will be able to effectively root for Jay because we'll know what's at stake.

Even if the finale is mediocre, I won't care as long as I "have had enough", meaning if there were enough awesome entries in the series before then. I want a few more big revelations and epic moments this season, and I'll be content with whatever happens in the end.

I don't remember who originally came up with the idea (though I'm fairly certain they were on unforum), but the best possible ending, in my book, would be the following: No intro text to whatever entry number it is, but it's just the hotel rooms from S2, and everyone appears to be dead. The camera is stationary, on a stand, and Masky walks into the shot and sits on a chair. He removes his mask, and Tim looks completely normal. He then pulls out a carton of cigs, and begins smoking them, one by one, in real time, while blasting his favorite heavy metal album. After all the cigs are done, he just says "I don't give a FUCK!", and the video cuts.

That would be sabotage the series in such an amazing way, that I think I'd prefer it over a proper ending.

Honestly I'd be so happy with this.

After Mass Effect 3's ending, I don't think anything can vex me.

In all seriousness, yes. if Marble Hornets has a crap ending (which I hope, hope, HOPE it doesn't), the series will forever be soiled in my memory, and the DVD's that I bought will be put in my basement, forever forgotten.

A bad ending wouldn't be enough to ruin the series for me, seeing as how the rest of it is so good. I really don't think a bad ending is likely, though.

i really don't think troy is going to come through with a bad ending to this series. I think he's said before that he's known how this is going to end for a while.

but that being said, the ending really is the most important part. if its a cliffhanger i will be severely disappointed, but i don't want them to answer everything. I never want the operator to be really explained but i do want resolve for every single human character in the story.

The ending to me is only important in so much as I can finally move on with my life.

Re: How important is the ending of Marble Hornets to you?

Good topic.

What if the ending sucks?

I would be sorely disappointed, but not, as Internet people say, "butthurt". A bad ending is definitely one of the worst things that could happen to a story, especially one that had an indisputably great start. A bad ending would cause me to forever segregate Season 1 from Seasons 2 and 3 as "the golden era of Marble Hornets". (Which I kind of already do.)

Quote:
What if the ending is open ended?

I would not mind it too much, as long as they answered a lot of the questions and mysteries of the series. I'm not displeased by open-ended endings, such as ones like Ted the Caver, and I think they retain good suspension of disbelief. This would be my second most preferable choice next to simply having a good ending.

Quote:
What if there are many questions left unanswered?

I would be royally pissed. This option is worse in my opinion than having a mediocre or bad ending that actually answered the many questions. With a ton of questions unanswered and mysteries unsolved, I would feel that huge chunks of the series were a total waste of time.

Quote:
Will it ruin the series for you?

This is very unlikely. It depends on the degree of suck that the ending has, as it would take a lot to ruin the experience I had during the first season. The ending would have to be extremely bad to ruin the series as a whole for me. The only thing I can see is if the ending was some kind of distasteful joke, something akin to a huge $20 reference, which we fortunately know they won't do.
Quote:
Will it leave a bad taste in your mouth? Or will you just look back and say that it was a fun ride?

If the ending is truly bad, the only thing that I'd be left with is to say that it was a fun ride, because despite the ending, I wouldn't be able to honestly say that the beginning wasn't enjoyable. I would still be able to say to my friends, "Hey, check out Marble Hornets Season 1; it's good stuff." Even if I don't recommend watching it to the end.

Troy and Joseph have garnered many adoring fans with this series, let's just pray that it will end as awesomely as the series in its entirety deserves.

Honestly? My interest has been drifting in & out since somewhere between late season 1 & early season 2. My taste for MH is probably hinging on how everything turns out in retrospect.

I think the ending is the key to this whole series. When you follow something episodically like this, you hope the resolution is satisfactory. We'll always have the many great entries from this series, but going back and watching them after the fact won't feel the same for me if I know it's all leading up to a bad finale.

I'm not sure what would constitute a great ending. We'll have to see how our many questions get answered. My friend and I were discussing the other day how cool it would be if after everything's resolved, Jay uploads a video where it's just him talking into a webcam at a new locale, talking about how everything's better and he's in a good place finally. At that point, Jay's roommate comes in and says "Hey Jay, I found this box of tapes in the closet, what should I do with these?" And Jay turns to him...and cryptically says only "Burn them". Then cut to black.

I might as well give my thoughts on this topic, though everything that can be said has pretty much already been said.

Marble Hornets is a series about mysteries. It's a series about setting up unanswered questions and leaving the viewer hoping that they'll eventually reveal all the answers. Along the way, some answers are given, but much of the story is, at this point, still a mystery. How long has Alex been under the Operator's sway? Is Alex a completely lost cause, or can he find redemption? What will become of J? What happened with J during the Marble Hornets filming days, and what happened to everyone else? Who is totheark, what is the ark? The list of questions goes on and on.

It's a series that's about leading up to the conclusion, leading up to the (hopeful) eventual revelations. In an interview, Troy promised that he'd try to have the series answer as many questions as he could, but this series really does stand on the unknown, the mystery.

So that brings me to the conclusion. Would I like to have answers? Well, yes, we all would. We would all like to know exactly what's going on here. Why is the Operator involved? What is Alex's story? And all those other questions. We would like answers, as this entire series stands on that. The answers, should we get them, should be satisfactory, and therein lies the challenge. Knowing that you can't please everyone, of course the answers won't satisfy all the fans. I'd like the series to end with good explanations, but I'd like there to still be some mystery. I'd like for the series to end and have things still be creepy, unsettling, and leave us wanting more, even though the series would be over.

I remember back in the season one days, with Entry 23 (I think), where J explores Brian's house one final time, only to be teleported to the "Basement of Doom". The entry ended with the image of the Operator burned into the camera, onto the tape. J said, via text narration, that he was through, that he didn't want to investigate anymore, that he didn't care about finding the answers anymore. I remember the fan response at that point. We didn't know what was to come with Marble Hornets. That entry gave the implication that the series was over, that we wouldn't get another entry. I remember a lot of fans, myself included, trying to put pieces together, trying to figure out what was going on. "Okay," we thought, "if we're not getting another entry, what can we figure out given the first 23 entries and these totheark responses? What's actually going on?" Back then, we had all sorts of crazy theories, including that the Operator was slowly transforming either Alex or J into another Slender Man-like creature. While that would've been an odd place to end the series, it might have worked, leaving the series a mystery.

In the end, though, this is a series inspired by the Slender Man, and at this, there's the whole question of, how do you end a Slender Man series? With the Slender Man stalking your characters, the logical outcome is a bad ending, with the characters meeting their fate at the arms of the Slender Man. It doesn't seem likely that they can win. So...how will Marble Hornets end?

Yeah, that's part of what I think, in response to this topic.

The Ending:

Jay returns to his hometown after the entire ordeal is finally over. He sees that his house is (strangely enough) rebuilt after previously burning down. He walks inside and sees that everything is where he left it those years ago. He looks outside his screen door and sees the Operator standing in his back field, and it slowly starts walking towards him. Frantic, Jay reaches in his pocket and pulls out a top - he sets the top on the counter top and gives it a spin. The camera focuses in on the top, it wavers just a tiny bit and the footage cuts to black. fin.

Or maybe at the end, Jay will have his whole "everything's much better now that it's all resolved," speech to the camera. But then, white text will show up on a black screen which says "Now, there's just one thing left to do." *cut to a shot of an outside area where Jay pours out a bunch of tapes from a bag onto the ground, covers them in gasoline, and sets them on fire*

The end! Very Happy

(Hey, the way I figure it, if we crazy theorize enough, one of us has to get it at least sort of right.)
