Maybe this is a world with bad, neglectful parents, because we've got about two or three disappeared young adults and not even from the very beginning has Jay received a "Hey Jay, I'm Brian's mom, remember me? Sorry to bother you but we haven't heard of our son in YEARS. So have you seen him recently?" that we know of, anyway.

I guess that's easy to do when everyone you meet either threatens your life or mysteriously disappears. Haha.

Where are Jay's parents, by the way? Are they deadbeats? Are they just dismissing the allegations? "Oh, our son and his stories..."

He told them,
(•_•)

( •_•)>⌐■-■

He was making a documentary.

I suppose it coincides with Jay's introverted persona; he keeps mostly to himself.

Tim got in a synchtube from here?? whaaat.

OOG
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I don't know exactly what synchtube Pravado might have been referring to, but he did come to one where we were broadcasting the Amnesia Let's Play!'s. That wasn't through here, though. The host personally knew him and invited him on spontaneously, because we were sort of perstering him to. Tim said he stopped reading Unfiction a while ago, so I don't know.

Maybe it's like the beard guy. After The Operator took his dead body, no one remembered him and there were no records of him anymore. Is it not possible that Brian/Sarah/Seth's friends and family don't remember them anymore? Jay only remembers them because he has them on tape, like the beard guy. Just speculation, but I think it's an interesting idea.

If that was all happening, you'd think the tapes would've been wiped somehow too.

Ya well that's the weird thing about the beard guy though. Jay couldn't find any record of him whatsoever, but he still had him on tape. Maybe that's what the Operator is like; no record of him exists except what's taken on camera. He DOES wipe your memories, and he TRIES to distort your footage. But, that's going WAY out into the speculation zone of how the Operator "Works". All I'll says is:

FACTS:
1. Records of beard guy do not exist any longer.
2. Records of him still exist on camera.

So, I see it entirely plausible that the same happened to the others "Taken" by the Operator, or whatever he does to them.

I would argue that there's a world of difference between

"Records of Bruce no longer exist,"
and
"Jay couldn't find any documentation that this guy (he'd never seen before, didn't get a really good view of, didn't know the name of, and had no idea where he actually lived) was reported missing."

Unless I missed something somewhere. As I recall, Jay searched for a week or so to find a mention of his disappearance, but couldn't (if I'm wrong, please correct me).

That doesn't mean a record of his existence isn't there, just that Jay didn't find it. Like I said, Jay (and we) don't know his name, or even where he lives. It's possible he lives in Rosswood, but it's also entirely possible he lived on the other side of the country, or in Canada, or in Germany, or Swahili, and was visiting some family/friends, and decided to go check out the local park to do some walking or hiking, or to meet a drug dealer, and chose the wrong place, the wrong time, and REALLY THE WRONG PERSON to interact with.

Basically what Jay did was he looked for any missing person reports from around the time and place. And you're right, it's entirely possible that there's a perfectly normal explanation for Jay not finding anything. However, I would like to point out that plenty of normal explanations were suggested to Jay on Twitter, such as: "Maybe he was homeless" and "Maybe they found his dead body instantly so there wouldn't be a missing person report". Jay responded to these with "He didn't really look homeless to me" and "Then there'd be an obituary, and I checked, there's none of those either" (I'm paraphrasing, but that's irrelevant.) Now, excuse for a moment now while I go all "OOG":

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I would like to ask, if there is a perfectly normal and boring explanation for why Jay can't find any records of him except for on the tape, then why from a writing perspective would Troy/Joseph/Tim even include the part where Jay looks for him and find nothing? Just to be purposely anticlimactic? In my opinion, Jay's disregarding of suggested normal explanations on Twitter is the writers implying some kind of Slenderelated explanation. Otherwise, as I stated earlier, why would they even make it a plot point?

There's absolutely no indication that any of the characters are estranged from their parents. These guys are mid- to late-20s, so they wouldn't be having to check in with their parents every time day, and then to talk about it on camera then post it on the Internet. Hell, that's maybe where J gets all his money, which is another entirely irrelevant topic that has no bearing on the series.

Most college kids who don't live at home don't really visit home all that often unless they're dorming or going home for the summer or w/e.

Jay probably kept his college apartment and got a ton of money from insurance when it burned down, and that's how he's affording to live wherever he's living now. that's the best answer you'll get. His interactions with his parents don't need to be shown. Jay's not going to share every aspect of his life with us, only the ones pertaining to this investigation
