Way to go amandel!
As I was still over thinking and trying Civil War ciphers (railfence and route transpositions)
Can't wait for the update on Zea's blog!

Well here's the blog post (Just so we can have it on the thread:)

Well! A new friend of mine on Twitter named Amandel has cracked the code! I laughed when I saw her suggestion, it seems the owner of the lock and the box has or had a sense of humor.
I entered "this" and the lock slid open! I was, of course, a bit nervous at first as to what I would find inside!
Inside the box is a letter, a photograph, and a silver baby rattle, inscribed: "for Louis"
Here is the photograph:
I will transcribe the letter in another blog post, as I don't yet have a camera, although I have asked K to bring me one. The letter is addressed to Mary and contains part of a Shelley poem. There is also some gibberish at the bottom. More soon!
Also I don't know if it's just me but does anyone get the vibe of Charolette Bronte? It's probably just me but this game just has that feel to it.

I got the trailhead email too so I guess I'll jump in and play along.
New blog post

Here is the full text of the letter included in the box:
Dear Mary,
You are no longer with us, but we have prepared a room for you here. I know you were not referred to by Mary in life, but I cannot bring myself to voice your nickname just yet. There is so much pain in my heart.
The distant battlefields still rumble, but someday there will be an end to all war and sadness. I hope you see that day, that place.
I leave you with a poem by PBS, who I know you loved:
"Throughout these infinite orbs of mingling light,
Of which yon earth is one, is wide diffus'd
A Spirit of activity and life,
That knows no term, cessation, or decay;
That fades not when the lamp of earthly life,
Extinguish'd in the dampness of the grave,
Awhile there slumbers, more than when the babe
In the dim newness of its being feels
The impulses of sublunary things"
Everything is locked away now. The key is buried in a special place devoid of memories. I will see you again soon. It is the key to your heart, because heart is the key.

From Mary Shelly's Frankenstein
" A single wall separates the creature from the family. As he watches the family through a hole in the wall, he learns about love, family, and familial hierarchy. He learns that the old man is blind and is also the patriarch of the family. Since the father figure is missing in the creature's life, the old man becomes somewhat of a surrogate parent."

How could she upload the picture without having a camera? Odd...
If she has a scanner, she also could have scan the letter...
For Amandel and the other news! Thanks and well done!

@amandel77 @imzea Hope the storm has passed, Zea. The letters ERTITHSEN are an anagram for 'enter this'. Have you tried THIS with the combination lock?
@imzea @amandel77 Tried "this." IT WORKED! You are a genius for figuring it out! I will write up the contents of the box on the blog. THANK YOU!
So it really was "enter this"? Shame on me for doubting myself. I would have loved for it to be "enter shit".
Zea emailed me but I couldn't get much out of where she was at the moment. Her new blog post is as follows:
Quote:
blah blah blah.... It is the key to your heart, because heart is the key.

It looks like we have a new cipher, gentlemen. EDIT: And it's already been solved three posts above. Sorry, didn't see it
Also I'm telling you this heart business has to be important, what with Shelley's heart purportedly missing and all. Also who could have been the author of the letter?
EDIT: I suspect that the author of this letter is Edward Trelawny, what with all the heart is the key talk. He was the one who was suspected of stealing PBS's heart - they were also quite good friends the two. His biography is super interesting if anyone wants to have a look:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In the timeline of Edward Trelawny, about halfway down:
--1826 Recovers from his wounds. Tersitsa give birth to a girl (Zella).
Maybe I'm just crazy.

Yeah when I was fiddling around with some stuff yesterday about this I happened upon the Hole-in-the-wall cemetery.
Its obviously talking about a grave... I'm going to ask Zea if she knows of any cemetery's around where she is.

Well actually I had sent her an email last night. Though I thought someone else must have told her the cipher already.
This was her response:
Quote:
Awhile ago I found a cemetery with all of these unmarked graves. I asked K about it and she said that nobody is buried in them. They signify the "unburied." There are seventeen. I will go there today and take a look at the third unmarked grave. Like you said, I'm not eager to go digging just yet, but I will check it out.
Well at least she's not going to be disturbing anybody.
