This looks like fun. I've emailed Z with a few questions and will post if I get a response. Some (likely insubstantial) observations:

  • There hasn't been a great deal of the letter from Leo Verit. That name is an anagram of 'overt lie' (among other things, admittedly) -- it could be that he's not to be trusted, especially as he contradicts Z at many points in his letter.

  • Z mentioned meeting somebody called 'G' on Twitter. The post was made on 4th July and mentioned that it was G's birthday. I've looked at famous births/deaths for 4th July but nobody leaps out as obviously being the relevant G here. The only possibility is a time zone difference (I'm in the UK) so I'll check the 3rd and 5th July just in case.

  • From trying to find significance in the silver rattle for 'Louis', I found a page that mentions that Robert Louis Stevenson was close with Sir Percy Florence Shelley, son of PBS and Mary Shelley -- going so far as to jokingly suggest that Shelley had been 'reborn' as RLS. Probably too tenuous to be a real link but thought I'd mention it just in case.

  • Z mentioned two letters in her opening blog post but only posted the contents of one. I've asked her about the other one -- again, I'll report back if anything comes of it.

We're still trying to figure out where she is right? Or what are we trying to discover? I'm at a loss here - information overload if you will.

Right now I think it's the why she's there and what's in the rooms.

Though the main point may be the rooms and she might just be a medium for it.

I'm still waiting on something about the graves. She said she was going to look but there was no post on the blog. I guess I'll wait to see if an email comes in this morning or not.

EDIT: So just some information about Timothy Shelley.

Quote:
Mary (1797–1884)

That is one of his children he had. All of them were unmarried sadly.

It may just be me, but these two family lines have way too many people named Mary. I haven't been able to find her and I don't think I'm going to.

EDIT 2: I was able to find a small mention in a book. The only thing mentioned that I didn't know was her birth date.

For those not following on Twitter, Zea posted some lines from the Emily Dickinson poem, After great pain, a formal feeling comes.

The lines were: (each a separate tweet)
This is the Hour of Lead
Remembered, if outlived,

First – Chill – then Stupor – then the letting go –

From the poem: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/177118

Also it seems Beaststriker tweeted about it to her.

yep, I said to her, that this poem is great, but she only answered:

Yeah, her poems are interesting and haunting and depressing. I read a lot of her stuff in graduate school.

So no new information...

Um, new blog post.

Quote:
Hello my friends! I am sure you've been wondering what has happened to me! Did she fall in a grave? Did she lock herself in one of the seventeen rooms? Did she get lost in the woods?

Yesterday and today I had the strangest and most amazing visitor. Too much to tell here, but I'm writing up a new post as we speak, so I promise you won't have wait long.

Some mysteries will be solved, and some have just begun…

Oookay.

Edit 2: Second blog post:

Quote:
OK, so it's time to tell you about the visitor and the letters.

A messenger brings me letters from time to time, but once in awhile I get one that includes strict instructions to not open that particular letter. I've been setting those aside. Tonight I found out why.

My visitor was a young and extremely attractive man who is good-looking enough to be a Hollywood actor. He greeted me cordially and asked me to take a walk with him. I knew he was coming, because K told me to be prepared and not ask questions. We walked without talking all the way to the cemetery.

Then he turned to me and began speaking.

"Look, Zea, there are seventeen unmarked graves here. Each grave is empty, nobody is buried here. Each grave represents someone who is dead, but either unburied or buried in a way that makes them unhappy. They are lost souls. They are tormented. I can't tell you where you are or why you are here. All I can tell you is that it's your job to help each soul find its way home.

The souls don't remember anything about their past lives, so as you meet them, one by one, it's up to the both of you to find the key to their room and figure out the mystery of their life and death.

The visitor then told me that the messenger would deliver my first set of clues for each soul that I meet. Some of those clues have already been delivered. The first letter belongs to G, who is already a resident here.

Tomorrow I will open the letter and talk to G. Hopefully we can figure out what to do next!

Okay, this has come out of left field.

Interesting stuff. The theme of the game seems similar to the Blackwell series of point and click adventure games – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackwell_(series) – which is great, so I'm excited about the developments here.

I had a reply from Zea – no big reveals as far as I can tell but I'm still chuffed to have heard from her. I'll paste below along with my original email and my subsequent reply.

Quote:
Hi Zea,

I hope you don't mind me writing; I stumbled across your blog and was so intrigued that I just had to get in touch.

It's awfully sad that you're apart from your children but you seem to be holding up well. I can only assume that's because you trust Kay to look after them well. Have you known her long? How did you two meet?

Can I also ask about your exchanges with Leo Verit? If I may be so bold, what is the nature of your relationship with him? He seems to contradict you in many places in the letter you transcribed -- are you absolutely sure he is to be trusted? He mentions that you heard gunshots and saw bullet holes. That must have been terrifying! Can you talk any more about the strange goings on there?

This might sound crazy (it wouldn't be the first time I've been accused of being removed from reality) but from what you have written it almost sounds as if you could be in some kind of purgatory. I hope that makes sense to you somehow. Can you remember the events leading up to the first moment you found yourself residing in the place you currently occupy?

You also mentioned somebody called G on your Twitter account. She had a birthday recently, right? I'd love to hear more about her if you feel like sharing.

One final thing and potentially the most important, at least in the short term: you mentioned in your first blog post (dated 2nd July) that you had two letters in your possession. So far you have only shared the contents of one of those letters. Would you be willing to reveal the contents of the other? You never know, it may hold information that could help.

Forgive the intrusion and my overly inquisitive nature. Please understand that I only ask in order that I may help in some small way. I, of course, understand if you'd rather not go over this all again.

Your friend,

B

Quote:
Dearest B,

Thank you for writing! You have so many questions, so I will try to answer them as best I can.

K does not look after my children, they are with their father. K is the emissary between my old life and my new life and she lets me know what is going on with my children and whether or not I can have them come visit.

Leo Verit is from my old life, but someone I am still permitted to speak with via the mail. He is not a bad person, just helping me out with some problems that I can't go into right now. The gunshots and bullet holes are part of a larger question of what is real and what is not.

I mention G and the unread letters in my new blog post.

I hope that everything becomes more clear for all of us as we continue to work toward solving this mystery.

Thanks again for writing and I hope you will write again soon.

-Z.

Quote:
Dear Z,

It was wonderful to hear from you, many thanks for your kind reply.

Please forgive my mix-up regarding your children – you wrote 'I miss my children. They belong to K now…' in your first blog post so that's where my confusion came from.

Well, I read your latest post. What an incredible turn of events! That's quite the responsibility you've been given but know that I'm here to support you whenever you need it, as are the others who have been in touch with you. We can work together to help you get through this.

I admire your restraint in waiting until tomorrow to open G's letter. I don't believe I could have stopped myself from opening it there and then – but then I imagine you were tired after what sounds like an emotionally exhausting day.

Anyway, I will leave you to think on what's happened and what is to come. I hope you'll write soon – if there's anything you need, you know where I am.

Best,

B

A couple of days ago I sent Z te following email

Quote:
Zea

Is there any way you can look into previous owners of where you are staying, maybe around the 1860's?

Thanks

Spoonhead.

And just got the following reply

Quote:
I don't know anything about the previous owners, but will ask K about it.

Again no major revelations but might pan out.

Coffee Hi all. Since resident "G" is getting their letter opened am just mentioning that Zea's Confederate flag from the attic trunk has an exact date as its alt title. It's July3 1863 which is the final day of the Battle of Gettysburg. That battle had the largest number of casualties in the American Civil War. And beaut cipher solve, emato!

Just wanted to poke my head in over here! I just caught up on everything, so I'll let you all know if I have any insight on what's happened so far.

I have to admit, I'm more than a little grateful that there's only a blog and twitter for this one. Too many of the games I've been in recently have way too many things to follow.

Wow, talk about a right turn Clyde. It does explain Mary Shelly though:

"According to Jane Shelley, Mary Shelley had asked to be buried with her mother and father; but Percy and Jane, judging the graveyard at St Pancras to be "dreadful", chose to bury her instead at St Peter's Church, Bournemouth, near their new home at Boscombe."

A shot in the dark for "G"

"After Garbo died, her body was cremated in April,1990, after her request. The memorial service at Frank E. Cambell Funeral Chapel was of course private. Attended only by the Reisfields family and a few very few friends. Her Urn stayed in New York for 9 years at an undisclosed location. The story was that, there were many discrepancies about the last place for the Urn."

You have an object that belongs to G, a gift that was never given and never received. You must find the rightful owner for whom the gift was originally intended.

G is but one branch on a tree with ancient roots, a sturdy trunk, many branches, and newly flowering leaves.

Her sister grieves for her, and blames herself for her death.

Those that march beyond the grave grieve for her, carrying both flags.

A mother grieves for her, and cannot eat the bread she baked.

The key to G's room

Is the key we all use from time to time.

We are broken and must go back

to cracked flag north.

Tragic tale. Sad Maybe G is Ginnie Wade and the "gift" object Zea has is the "silver rattle inscribed: for Louis", her sister's newborn son? Addn'l details LINK

Some more details on her nephew, Louis Kenneth McClellan (1863-1941) . Am clueless 'tho what "the key we all use from time to time" is.

EDIT: Since Booba has bril confirmed this below & am up to my eyeballs with Zombies and Puppets am truly happy if any of y'all want to run this past Zea. THX.
