When Tim yelled "No!" in Entry #19 (Jay tried to remove his mask), it came through pretty clearly. Just a point to be made.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but the WATCHING photograph reveals that Jay and Tim's argument in #59 apparently took place in the location of the "DO YOU REMEMBER ME" image from "Reminder".

I can't wait for the totheark encounter

Jay: what happened that caused you to follow me around everywhere? you spend entire days watching me, don't you have anything better to do? and you tease me constantly without providing help, but you obviously need me for something otherwise you wouldn't spend all this time on watching me. WHAT IS YOUR DEAL

totheark: *takes off mask to reveal ellis*

totheark: i remember the first day i met you jay. i was just minding my own business listening to classical music when YOU came bothering me. i quickly left, creeped out, and ran into some tall guy as i headed back to my car. i made it home alive but he keeps bothering me. so i google'd "tall man black suit" and what do i find? your series. so i figure out that some guy named tim has this channel called to theark where he follows you. i wanted to be tim for a day. i followed him around and hacked his youtube account. i've been mimicking his videos for months, jay. he watched you because he was a freak, i watch you because i need you

*tim busts in*
tim: so THIS is the guy! i've been obsessed with you because I thought you were the one that hacked my account, jay. back in the earlier entries i just tried to creep you out because i am sick in the head

*ellis and tim start making out, their sideburns intertwining. jays eyes roll back into his head as he subtly moans*

(no seriously though, the interaction will be cool. the amount of following totheark does is inhuman, dedicating all of his free time to folowing jay)

Not the same place, I think...

It's two sites, and you spent more time making that post than it takes to type in www.twitter.com/marblehornets (protip: nobody is that strapped for time)

No, but new people don't know about the twitter or the TotheArk videos. I didn't find out about the TotheArk videos until I had already marathoned the first 45 entries. I didn't go back and watch them until I was done with the rest of the entries to that point, which was 51.

It's like asking someone watching a TV show, they show reference an important document, but never tell you about it. Then you find out weeks later that in order to find out what it was they were referencing, you had to go to a site barely related to the show just to see the document. That's stupid in that scenario, and stupid in regards to MH.

That shit might work for other ARGs, but as we've pointed out before, MH isn't really an ARG. Only the supplemental stuff like TotheArk or twitter can be considered ARG-esque, and that's stretching it since we don't have any influence on the story at all.

jay mentions totheark in one of the earlier entries, any rational person would go do a google search for it and see what it is. new people can deal with it, they're not the ones that they should be catering to, the ppl keeping up with it for 3 years are

I'm agreeing with pravado on this one, I started at the start of second season. Jay mentions in the video after the first totheark "I saw the response to the last video" then shows scenes from the last totheark, which caused me to go "huh, I didn't notice the response" then I went back and watched it.

The twitter was also mentioned first entry of the second season, which is when I started following the twitter. (and by follow I mean I texted the number, so it would just text my phone on updates).

A new person would have to be actively trying to ignore them both.

So checking the 1/10 date...it almost lines up with the night that jay smacked tim with a flashlight...except that the wiki lists that entry as being 1/12...meaningful at all?

What if the doll is how you get infected with the slendies?

Pouring over the threads I wonder what happened with the Gemini symbol just a thought what if Tim had a twin (identical twin O.o)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I actually kind of like the slow pacing this season has, and i think it's the only realistic choice they have, really. For all of season 2, Jay was just travelling around watching the tapes and nothing really happened to him in real time. If we started getting dramatic reveals every other entry in season 3, it would feel really unrealistic and a little too convenient. I mean, everything just grinds to a halt while Jay watches the tapes and then when he's all caught up and ready to go everything just starts up again? No, that would just feel really unrealistic to me. Jay needs to kick around the hornets' nest a little before shit starts to go down.

They can do those things with it still being realistic.

Do all what things? Have dramatic reveals every other entry? If every other entry was like entry 35 or 51, I think that'd be pretty unrealistic.

Quote:
All of season 2 seemed realistic to me and it was over the top for most of the entries.

Really? To me, it seems like there were quite a few entries in season 2 that were pretty mellow. The first few entries were just Jay and Jessica dinking around in the hotel. Nothing really happens in entry 34. Entry 36 and 47 are just Jay and Alex arguing. enttry 37 is just creepy ass birthday party footage that's most likely doctored by TTA. Entry 39 is just Jay sitting in his car for most of it. Entry 40, 41, and 42 are mostly just Jay, Alex, and Hoodie dinking around in the woods. Entry 48 was just Jay following Alex around. Entry 50 is just more dinking around in the woods.

And you can't compare them to seasons 1 and 2.

Season 1 is mentioned nowhere in my original post. Also, I can compare Season 3 to the first two seasons if I want. That's not really what I was doing though.

Quote:
Just because those seasons started slow doesn't mean that it's a "thing" where the first 10 or so entries have to be boring to lead up to the good stuff - that's a cheap defense.

Where did I say that it had to be " a thing where the first 10 or so entries have to be boring to lead up to the good stuff"? I never said season 3 had to start off slow because the other two seasons did. (If you even consider the beginning of season 1 to be slow) I said that with the way that season 2 ultimately played out, it wouldn't make much sense for season 3 to start off action packed. For an entire year, Jay had almost no problems and the Operator never appeared in real time during the entire duration of season 2, even though that's when it would have made the most logical sense for him to show up. It would have made much more sense to attack Jay during season 2 and try to prevent him from watching the tapes and learn what happened during the missing 7 months, otherwise why erase Jay's memory in the first place? But the fact that TO left him alone for an entire year implies that he no longer found Jay a threat or was simply no longer interested in him, meaning he had no motive to harrass Jay in season 3. Which means that they had to give TO a NEW reason to antagonize Jay. And that new reason would require at least some time to build up to. Jay's interactions with Tim and going to the abandoned hospital seems to be the catalyst that brought TO back into action. If TO just reappeared with no prior build up, it would beg the question "Why wait until now, now that your enemy/victim is armed with knowledge you could have prevented him from obtaining?" If TO had scared Jay out of the hotel before he got the tapes out of the safe, Jay never would have learned how dangerous Alex is, which would have put him at a HUGE disadvantage. But for whatever reason, TO seemed content to let Jay learn everything he forgot. Now that we know (or think we know) that Tim has been stalked since he was a child, we have at least some reason to believe that TO might be concerned with a Jay/Tim team up, which gives him a REASON to turn up this season, other than to just be scary. So yes, I am pretty satisfied with the slow build up and reveals we've gotten so far, and I'll take slow and deliberate pacing over quick and rushed pacing any day. [/quote]

Location: I'm lost, let's ask that bald, tall, faceless guy in a business suit.

Please peole, don't talk like you loved S2 trough it. I may have not been here during that time, but I was a constant lurker, and there were always a group of people (and not only pravado) calling the most recent entry "just filler".
Now everyone loves S2.
Is that being hipocryte? No, it's just because you don't have to wait anymore. When S3 is finished, you'll all say it had a great pacing too.

EDIT: Also, one month gap between entries. And delays. Yeah, that meant 20 minutes entries and stuff, but that doesn't mean those were not "filler" entries (using the termn the way this people does, I don't think there are "filler" entires...)

Well that only makes sense. Very different thing to watch the episodes straight through than to be waiting for the next entry.

When people talk about pacing, there's two kinds.

1. The cinematic kind that comes just from the way things move from buildup to climax to resolution as you watch the episodes straight through. That's the one that has mostly to do with the quality of Marble Hornets as an Indie film. (I say it's a good one, especially because we're actually seeing some moral conflicts and character development - something Season 3 EXCLUSIVELY brings to the table. The other seasons were purely plot/mystery driven, really.)

2. The presentation type that comes from the way the series as an ARG is updated. To be a good ARG (even though MH is very uninteractive for an ARG) you need to have consistency, you need to keep things interesting, and you need to leave things for the fanbase to do. If you make people wait two weeks for an entry that doesn't bring much new to the table or create any real puzzles (where Totheark comes in), then that's bad pacing.

MH has good pacing as a film. There's usually something going on in each new Entry, and considering Entry #60.5 comes right after a VERY close encounter with The Operator, it makes artistic sense for it to be a quiet and uneventful episode.

As an ARG though, the pacing, including the reveals of new information and twists, is lacking.

That's probably why people tend to like the seasons better after they're over.

We'll remember Marble Hornets as a great experience in indie horror, not as a great ARG. But that's fine. The story will last. Cool It's very good horror in comparison to even professional films.

EDIT: I think Alex needs to hurry up and appear though. We know that he's alive (or we can assume as much from "Decay"), so it's kind of twiddling our thumbs waiting for him to come out and start psycho-tripping again on the cast. I tweeted Jay about the medical papers and looking for Janet; nothing doing yet, so I guess that's not the direction we're going.

I don't understand what hoody is trying to tell Jay. Okay, we get it, Tim has medical problems. We get that you're always watching. I don't understand how "he lies" makes any sense. He lies about what? You'd think there would actually be something in the folder that proves that he lies.

Also, don't know if this was said, but I feel like it was:

I'm calling there being a flash drive or some kind of note inside the Slendy Doll.

How Tim is lying...

In entry 59, he says, "It's all Alex's fault. Him, and…whatever it is that follows him around. Somehow, they're responsible for me being this way..."

Which appears to be a LIE. Because the medical records prove he was having problems will into his childhood. Also, it's being hinted in the series that he does remember more than he reveals.

He's in major denial, and could very likely be the first to be haunted the the tall thin one.
