You could argue that maybe #29 was put on the laptop before #52, but that just makes it even more ineffectual...

I've already put this out there, but I'll put it out there again in case it got missed. If Entry #29 was the last thing that Alex filmed on the chestcam then Jay puts it onto the laptop during Entry #52. Take a look from 7:40-8:20 and you'll see that everything he has in terms of footage except the chestcam goes into the safe, where he loses access to it. All he had to do was copy the contents of the chestcam memory card to his laptop and then he was free to use the chestcam however he wanted. (Why call it "noentry"? Well he was just threatened by Alex at gunpoint not to make any more entries. Maybe "AlexThreatenedYouDontUploadThisInCaseYouGetMemoryWipedAgainYouDerp" would have been a better name though.) By 8:57 he's putting the chestcam back on and the laptop is open as if he's just used it. Jay seems to go out of his way to not tell anyone (even his future self) about the footage from the chestcam. He doesn't tell Jessica about it, and he doesn't film himself taking footage from the chestcam on the only tape/memory card that is not locked in the safe. And he didn't even write down the safe combination anywhere obvious. It's as if it he planned to have a memory wipe that night.

EDIT: At 7:05 Jessica suggests that Jay use 1234 as the code, and Jay considers this for quite a while. I think he was being quite literal there, as in it was be the first thing that he would try and so it would be a dangerous choice if he got memory wiped. In retrospect it's quite funny that that was the first thing he tried, but if things had worked out differently he could have ended up on the wrong end of a gun.

If that's the case, maybe #29 really has been retconned. It throws such a wrench into the series' logic; it seems like it only existed for our benefit.

I'd hate for it to be retconned. It was so clearly a teaser of the upcoming season, but at the same time I'd expect it to fit in since these guys put a lot of effort into continuity (eg Entries #38 and #50 fitting together so neatly.)

Although, it's still really convenient, because if The Operator had been there, Jay shouldn't have been able to remember too clearly what he saw. I guess he did though, and realized that he NEEDED that tape he saw in #46, so he went back to Alex's house the next day and stole it...but then decided that it was safe to go with Alex somewhere in the forest anyway? He couldn't have watched it, or else he's a major asshole for bringing Jessica with him and risking her being Slendynapped. But he should at least have had some serious suspicions of Alex at that point, enough to make him not want to go anywhere with the dude.

1) Jay specifically mentions and describes having looked at the tape with 51 on it and not at all trusting Alex in the beginning of Entry #52, during his "Confession" bit. So he did watch it.

2) Jay didn't decide to steal the tape from 46 because of anything to do with the tunnel. He did it because prior to then, he didn't realize the key he stole was Alex's house key. He found out in that entry, and then uses the key accordingly the next day.

Ugh, completely forgot about that, and the knife he brought just in case. And I never saw that connection, I had just assumed that he knew what the key he took was, and that's why he took it, until he had a chance to go back to Alex's house.

Well there goes one credit I gave Jay. Rolling Eyes And any explanation for the #50 tunnel sequence and its importance, as well as the last remaining story relevance I could have came up with for #29...
