Ever since they confirmed 38 wasn't an origin story, I just take it as a way for Alex to motivate Jay to follow him into the woods. After entry 40 happened Jay most likely wouldn't want to go in. Alex tells Jay that he has something to tell him, then as they're walking he tells the story to maybe hint to Jay that he can help Jay with all of his problems. This will get Jay to follow him deeper in where he can do the killing.

I like this theory. Giving Jay hints that he may at least have some answers to what's going on.

That seems counter productive though. Jay already had reason enough to come into the woods with Alex, because they were already there going pretty deep in (Alex even warned Jay beforehand), and it wasn't until after the story that Jay got spooked and decided to leave.

Jay didn't get spooked from the story, he said he wanted to leave because it was getting dark out. Even then he didn't seem very worried.

Most likely a story Alex made up to convince Jay that he knew more about the operator than he does, which would make jay even more willing to cooperate.

I don't think we'll ever get an answer to what the story was though.

Just noticed something about entry 50 though. Jay goes through the tunnel (at least halfway), then we see him sitting down as if he just went through some intense stuff, he gets up and walks BACK through the tunnel as creepy operator noises play out. Why did he go back through that tunnel

Yeah, but I'm saying that Alex's story didn't do anything to make Jay want to follow him more, at least as far as we can see. And if someone's scared to go into a forest because they just encountered a faceless business man, you don't freak them out with a spooky story. Jay doesn't even react to the story/show any understanding of it as a reference to The Operator except to discount it as a spooky ghost story (but he might just trying to be laugh off his fear).

Also, he's going through the tunnel while he's chasing Tim, then when he's shouting his "WHAT DO YOU WANT" spiel, Opnoises show up, he turns around to look back, then starts turning back around when vid cuts out, and he's sitting on the ground before he starts heading back. You can KIND OF see the puddle when he turns around to look back, that's the side he came from. Then he looks back to the direction he's going before the video cuts, so I assume he went all the way through the tunnel, saw something, and started going back (to investigate Alex...).

There's chalk on the ground on the other side of the tunnel, where there's no puddle. It's also there when he's heading back. So yeah, it looks like he went all the way through before he sat down to rest. Or whatever.

And the chalk looks like it could be an Op symbol, but didn't get a good enough look to see properly. There's definitely a circle and at least one line going through it.

In any case, I'd say something Op-related happened on that side of the tunnel before he started heading back.

Season 2 DVD commentary. Joseph stated it wasn't an origin story, and they had no plans at the moment to tell one. They just wanted Alex to say something creepy for the sake of being creepy.

If that's the case, I would have wanted him to talk about the dead animals being dropped at his place or something, bring that stuff back up/maybe throw some relevant clarity onto things.

That of dead animals in the garden only hear in the interview with Tim, right? I just think he was lying.

That's really weird that it wasn't meant to be an origin story. I guess I can see it's value as a non-origin story knowing now that Alex was leading Jay out there with the intent to kill him because of the youtube account.

It does get pretty creepy if you think about it that way. Like Alex is telling Jay this because Alex is the one who feels that Jay has done wrong by telling everyone about the operator, thus he has to put him on trial, by shooting him.

I live a pretty busy life - work, uni and TAFE take up a lot of my time, but am I the only one who doesn't feel all that impatient for a new entry? To be honest, it doesn't really seem all that long ago since entry #60.5 was uploaded and entry #60 before that.

Maybe it's just me.

When you're doing other shit, the wait seems shorter. That's why it seems longer to a lot of people, it's summer vacation, and I personally haven't been going outside that much because it's 100 degrees outside and I don't like fainting in the middle of the street.

And also even though it's summer that means I just do everything I can't do during the school year and I could use some marble hornets for a break

No, that's kind of how I feel, too.

Over on the EMH thread, everyone was complaining about the hiatus. I was about to go, "What's the big deal, it's only been a few weeks?" until I checked & saw that it had been over a month since the last update was made, & it was non-video.

Still didn't see what the big deal was.
