How long does it take you to get there?

Only about 5 hours, and it's a pretty easy drive. We could almost do it in our sleep I think, which we probably will, because we're heading straight home after the event. Ugh, that's going to be fun...

9 hours? is that all... I'm going for 12.

I agree completely though. I really don't care what we end up doing (I'm sure it will be great), I just want to hang out with everyone that's called me these last few weeks.

hey, its good to know someone else will be making this trek too. all us "long-haulers" should meet up... and probably get some coffee, because we're going to need it! Laughing

9 hours... 12 hours... If I drive it would be 15! I live smack dab in the middle of the country (Denver, CO), and over 1000 miles from any of the axons. I might fly out (my dad is a pilot so we get free travel), but how far is this mall from the airport? I can't rent a car cause I'm not 21, but how expensive would a taxi be? Or if someone is driving near the airport could they pick me up possibly? It is still a long shot that I will come, but I am trying to talk my parents into letting me come. I think I will be able to talk them into it, since there is no cost and I will only miss 2 classes on Friday and none on Thursday. Some info on how far the airport is from this mall and possible taxi costs would help me convince them.

I won't be able to go, but I have stayed cheap in Chicago by using priceline to get a room. I have stayed at the Chicago Hyatt Hotel on Wacker Ave several times for ~$45 per night.

I always checked biddingfortravel.com to get a better idea of what to bid first.

It looks like recently people have bid as low as $28 and gotten a room at the Hyatt Regency Schaumburg. What a deal.

Good luck.

yeah, speaking of... can anyone in the chicago-shaumberg area try and lock down exactly where we are going? does it look like there is parking nearby? is there bus service to this location for people possibly flying in? if someone could take the reigns, actually scout out the locations and look into these things for all of us who will be coming in from out of town it would be greatly appreciated! Very Happy

I'm in Evansville, Indiana, and I can probably pick up anyone who lives along 41 as long as you get mapquest directions from your house to Schaumburg and send me mapquest directions from Evansville to your place. I've got room for 3 people, so send me a private message.

By the way, I believe the time that we have to be in Chicago is at 6:00. Can anybody confirm that? Speaking of confirmations, has anybody received anything back from Melissa yet?

Oh, and one more thing. Angelo, you are a hero among lesser men.

Heck yeah. Is there parking nearby cause I plan on staying for the weekend if I'm driving 12 hours and I don't plan on renting a hotel room...

Yes, I can confirm that melissa said check in between 6:30 and 7:30.

I'm not too sure about the hero thing. I like to think of it more as a lesser man trying to compensate by hanging out with those who he respects... Wink

Woodfield is a gigantic parking lot dotted with chain stores.

There will be plenty of room for your car. Just, give yourself PLENTY of time to get there. 290/53 is an utter bear - and with the check-in time during the last gasp of rush hour, you want to make sure to give plenty of time to get through that mess and navigate the mall area.

(I keep trying to call the Streets of Woodfield Loews, btw, and no one is answering!)

There is a lot of construction happening on the insterstates heading to IL through Indiana, especially west/southbound traffics. Give yourself free time!

DANG. This might suck. I can't leave till 7 or 8 CDT. A twelve hour road trip (according to mapquest) puts me in just in time. Any traffic and I'm late... DANG IT.

I'm in Evanston, IL (suburb just north of chicago). I'm ok for getting to the event, but I don't have a car and need to get back home relatively quickly afterwards (midterm at 9AM the next morning). If there's anyone heading back in that general direction who could give me a lift at least part of the way, would they PM me? It would be much appreciated.

O'Hare airport is about 15 miles away from the event. Arriving at the event between 6:45 and 7:45 means you will be catching the tail end of rush our (gets better around 7:15-7:30.) You are looking at 20-25 minutes driving time from O'Hare at that time on a Thursday (15 minutes light traffic, 20 minutes moderate traffic, 30 minutes heavy traffic, 40 minutes on a Friday). Cab fare $20-$30 each way. You will also spend about 15 minutes walking THROUGH O'Hare (it's big and sprawling) even if you don't have luggage, so factor that in. Add another 20 minutes if you are renting a car. Parking readily available. There probably is a bus but I wouldn't bother. No train. Rent a car or cab it. Lots of food, entertainment and hotels in immediate vicinity of the event.
