The found footage started with Blair Witch, IIRC.
No, no. Everyone always says Blair Witch started found footage, but it was Cannibal Holocaust.
Except surprisingly few people have ever heard of that movie, as opposed to TBWP, which was insanely popular for some reason. Especially considering it wasn't really particularly scary. Or really good. It was well put together on a minimal budget with an amateur feel.

Basically any time Kirill's name is attached to anything that has a hint of MH-ishness in it, no matter how small his involvement is, someone's going to act like he's ripping off MH for his own benefit.
Dude doesn't seem like he'd roll like that. He would also get found out way too easily and find a shitstorm raining upon him.

Now hold on there, I have no idea who writes Paranormal activity, & the writer doesn't usually get a say in very much.
It's just, the very idea of Paranormal Activity is pretty much to rip off ghost shows. It's not a surprise to me if, after 4 rapidly jerked-out versions of the same shit, they started having to rip off fake ghost shows.

Personally, I'm with Starkey. Marble Hornets didn't invent that horror trope and I think it's just a concidence. (I don't think Krill's influence would extend that far to PA 4, correct me if I'm wrong)
BTW, what exactly did Krill do to fandom which has annoyed them so much? There seems to be a lot of negative buzz from a lot of fans about him.
I really enjoy the Paranormal Activity franchise and while I would have prefered it if they had left the first film, the sequels, despite artifically extending the story a bit, have been great and way ahead of most films released at the cinema. I'm glad this is going to be the final film and that there not planning to run the franchise into the ground, though

The biggest difference betwen this and MH is that MH doesn't have Golden Crisp product placement in it...
(Seriously? Even in trailers they place products so conveniently in the center of the screen directly facing the camera?)
Nah, I actually think the similarity might be a coincidence, or if at all stuff from MH has been unconsciously used (in a Masky state, you know ). But all that stuff was already part of horror movies way before MH existed, including the watching and turning around.

That part actually isn't the part I find questionable.

This is dumb. I don't like Paranormal Activity, but they're not ripping off Marble Hornets. Seriously, every time one of these first person camera horror things come out, the whole forum goes insane. All the stuff Marble Hornets uses is standard first person camera horror stuff. Now, Marble Hornets is great, but if you think they invented supernatural distortion, and rapidly turning towards the camera, then that's delusional.

I never said Marble Hornets invented the idea of paranormal entities messing with electronics, but I'm pretty sure they were the first to use the visual trope within found footage of the footage being distorted. I never said anything else and nobody seems to be picking up on that.
Regardless, I didn't post it because I thought it was a rip-off, I just wanted to point out that MH's reach is getting farther.

Also, of course the turning reminded me of Entry 1 - but I think that's just typical horror.

Just so you guys know, the IMDB page for MH is most likely rife with inaccuracies. It lists it as a frickin TV series when it's a Web Original, and yes they do have that category. I've seen it before.
Anyway. I would just like to remind everyone that Marble Hornets is not the first, nor is it the last, body of work to include digital distortions, creepy entities staring at the camera, or anything ominously paranormal.
For crying out loud, do none of you remember the Michael Keaton movie from the mid 90s called White Noise? IT S THE SAME SORT OF DISTORTION!! You guys are making a big deal out of NOTHING.

It is. How many times did we see that same move in one of the Ring movies or The Grudge? Or how about in the OMEN the most iconic horror movie of all time? This shit isn't new.

Don't see anyone making a big deal actually, just joking/discussing about the similarities. I see maybe 2 people actually pissed and all ZOMG THEY COPYING MH HERPDERP. The OP was just noting the amount of similar tropes. The same thing happens on every other series forum, even off unfiction, when a similar show or movie comes out.

Ok. Well they were raging about it in the rage thread and I didn't see it pointed out here either. So I thought I would make sure to enlighten people.

meh but that's the rage thread, it would be considered off topic if you weren't raging.
