My point again is that Marble Hornets did not create digital distortion in horror, but did create distortion on the camera in found-footage films , which is different.

No, it didn't. Check out Blair Witch Project, the film that kicked off an entire genre.
Don't forget the digital distortion present on supposed found footage of alien abductions.
You need to do your homework a little more. Digital distortion has been around for a while. I mean, come on, is everyone on here too young to remember Max Headrome?
Hell, I'm sure that if I really really really felt the need to look through all 8 seasons of The X-Files, I could find you tons of examples of digital distortion on video footage.
You know what? Why don't you just go look up paranormal videos on youtube. You will find shit tons of videos with digitial distortions on the footage from a camera. I know you think highly of Trosephim, but they didn't even come up with Slenderman. They were inspired by it and created a work all their own that others enjoy.

The Blair Witch Project doesn't have any distortion...?
I can't speak on any of your other evidence because it's all in generic terms.
I don't know what I said would have indicated that I think highly of Troy and Joseph and Tim, though, and I was following the Paranormal Images thread on SA long before Marble Hornets was around, so I'm aware of the history.

No, but I do recall a show by the name of Max Headroom...

Right now, I don't have the time to gather the evidence in one place. However, when I have a bit more free time this evening, I will find you all the evidence that you are too lazy to go look up for yourselves.

It is. How many times did we see that same move in one of the Ring movies or The Grudge? Or how about in the OMEN the most iconic horror movie of all time? This shit isn't new.
It's not the same move. It's a disturbing looking character standing motionlessly outside the house, then turning to face the camera man in split a second. It's a very obvious riff of (to be called "homage" by the PA4 people) Entry #1.

I'm just a bit annoyed that everyone's getting so jacked up about this.

I'm just going to put this out there...
Who cares?
It's not Hollywood, it's not cinema, it's writing .
Writers copy stuff from other writers all the time. MH does it, everyone does it. There are no innocents.
Duly noted. PA4 might still be worth watching (I still say nothing was as scary as the first one but hey). This doesn't affect that.
Really, the opening to PA1 and the Introduction to Marble Hornets have similarities. "X amount of time ago, this happened, and here's the footage." This isn't really new either.
Hell, other similarities:
Demon has fire powers in PA1. Slendy is associated with fire.
Demon will act at both day and night. Ditto for Slendy.
Demon has its own little symbol by PA3. Slendy has a symbol.
Other than that though, there isn't much...so I'll forgive PA4 for this possible copy.

I would hazard a guess the people who want to prove that it's IMPOSSIBRU!
Honestly, if the movie were a shot-for-shot remake of Marble Hornets, I'm still not sure Troesephim would give a shit. And if they don't really care, then neither do I. I'd think it distasteful, & it would be one more reason not to like Paranormal Phenomena or the people who come up with the franchise, but I wouldn't really "care."
What baffles me in this thread is this tendency to equate all types of similarity. But I'm sure you all realize, there's a difference between serendipity, parody, & plagiarism.

The Ring (cursed video that the whole movie is about. Do the sound effects sound familiar? They're just stock sounds.)
http://youtu.be/qkVlC2WgEwc
Release date for The Ring: 2002
For those who claim the third writer on MH season 1 ripped it off:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3189936/
Not a mention that he has anything to do with Paranormal Activity other than he found it in the mail room at his place of employment at the time. And it was only the first one.
The Omen (1976) This has commentary over it, but it doesn't change. Creepy kid turns to look at camera before the credits.

I don't feel like reviewing the entire movie Blair Witch Project again, but the ending scene does include camera distortion after the camera is dropped. Not to mention, Blair Witch Project 2 features in universe video footage complete with digital distortions.
The movie White Noise(2005) is an entire movie pretty much about distortions, mostly audio.
The turn towards the camera is a standard horror movie convention. Used in a lot of b grade horror movies too numerous to search through without having specific titles(I've seen a shit ton of movies in my life time and don't remember the names of them all), but I've seen the shit a hundred times over. By this point, the turn towards the camera is a cliche'.

To be fair, it's not just the turning towards the camera thing, it's also the fact that it's from the perspective of a handheld camera looking out the window. The window thing especially reminded me.
That being said, I'm still on the side that I don't know or really care if the similarity was on purpose or not. I really wouldn't be surprised if it was confirmed either way. Although, I do think the idea that this is all some conspiracy by Kiril to screw over Trosephim in a load of bullshit.

Just to be perfectly anal for a moment, isn't she talking to someone on Skype or something similar during that Entry #1esque scene? Not really through a cam?
PA is ALWAYS found footage. They can't do it any other way. So basically, they took a cliche and approached it the same way they would have always done. There IS a high likelihood of coincidence.
