Again, I never said that Marble Hornets invented distortion - maybe some people have, but I don't get that indication anywhere, ever. But distortion in found footage is different. I'm going to have to dispute that there's distortion in the Blair Witch Project at the end simply because I don't remember any, but in doing so I'll admit that maybe you're right and there is some, and then technically that would have been the beginning of the trope.

And once more, I didn't post this to illustrate some kind of grand scheme to rip off Troy and steal his millions away - I just wanted to point out how Marble Hornets is beginning to show influence on other work.

Is there an actual page for the video distortion trope? Or one specific to found footage?

 		Just a point about Tropes here:

There is a always a difference in how you use a Trope. Having a clip where the camera is dropped & it glitches isn't even remotely the same as what Marble Hornets does. The only example that would really fit, from what I can see, is White Noise.

And then there is such a thing as a Cyclical Trope. If someone does an Epic Fantasy movie, it's pretty damn obvious that they probably weren't inspired by the Epic of Gilgamesh, even though that's the oldest example.

As for whether or not "Video Distortion" is an "official" Trope, you could check the Tropes Lost & Found.

Well, for example, even though his actual paranormal creature classification is a mystery, Slenderman counts for the Electromagnetic Ghosts Trope on TVTropes. That's an example of a trope page.

Anyone who hasn't been to TV Tropes, go, look up any type of media you've watched, read, or listened to, and go nuts. Great website, for both entertainment and education.

But yeah, a quick runthrough never gave me any trope that was specifically "distortion of found footage." Rather, creatures distorting any type of footage is a trope on its own.

In other fun, The Slenderman Mythos.
