As far as I know. Why?

Just a thought: If everyone else has already made the physical sacrifice of an eye, wouldn't Jon have noticed when he went to the church? Wouldn't it have been full of one-eyed people? And wouldn't that have been something to maybe sorta comment on?

Holy cow, that's not a bad point at all!

With only some quick and sloppy thinking done, that seems to mean one of two things. Either both ShadowRise and Zar is lying and thus in coorperation, or

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
they made an OOG-blooper.

Okay, sorry, I am kind of all over the place at the moment. Just thought that I should probably get all my thoughts out.

Regarding the stone circle: It looks like a place for a ting, or thing, the kind of assemblies they used to have back in the Viking days. (Picture here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/Stoltebuell_Thingplatz_in_Gulde.jpg) This is where the people would make laws and judge crimes. As far as I know there was no Viking Prison, so the only options for dealing with criminals were fines, corporal punishment, or being declared an outlaw.

The box in the middle of the circle could potentially resemble Mimr's well where Odin sacrificed an eye in order to be allowed to drink from the well and gain wisdom. Also the whole setup kinda sorta maybe looks a little bit like an eye if you squint.

Also, since I'm on the topic of Norse mythology, the Isitoq figure kind of reminded me a tiny little bit of Odin's ravens, Huginn and Munninn, since they go out and report back what they see.

(DISCLAIMER: This is all just stuff I remember from growing up in Scandinavia and learning about Norse mythology. There is a very high possibility that there are additional layers to these stories and/or that I got some of the details wrong.)

Okay, word from Jon:

Amalie: Hey Jon, just wondering, did you notice anything out of the ordinary about the people at the church?
EyesFall: Hmm. Not really. There were one or two with an eyepatch, most of them were normal- then again, I wasn't really paying attention.
EyesFall: ...I guess now that I think about it, some of them, their eyes didn't move quite in sync. ...Why are you asking?

Okay, so it is quite possible that everyone has made the sacrifice as well, whether they cover it up with eye patches or glass eyes.

Good save Smile (Also, check out Zars mis-sent tweet)

I musta had some kind of a brainfreeze about the purpose of the eye. We know the purpose of the sacrifice already, I'm just being confused.

Now on to Zardocks investigation!

Interesting enough, but how does all of that tie in with The Yellow Wallpaper? And more importantly, how do we use it to help Char and Angela?

Okay, I could be totally off here, but this is something I noticed. Don't know how it would help with the sacrifice, though.

- Mordred is a character from Arthurian legend.
- Mordred (the character)'s birthday is May 1, and so is Jon's according to his DeviantArt profile.
- The name Mordred comes (according to Wikipedia) from "Moderātus," which comes from "moderor," which means to "moderate or retrain." Restraining/moderating one's shadow seems to be very important.

Is any of this helpful? Maybe not? Am I over thinking it? Probs.

I just wanted to make sure it was out of game so I could paste in the ritual here too, aside from the wetpaint site.

Creepy Shadow People wrote:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

This is an ages-old ritual, passed from generation to generation. The purposes behind the ritual must never be shared with humans unless they are going to perform or participate the ritual, do you understand this? No gabbing to your allies, this is between you and the shadows. If we find out you have shared this, well... it won't be very pleasant for you at all.

Objects for the ritual:
The human to be enucleated
The human preforming the procedure
At least one Shadow must be present, but if the human preforming the ritual has awakened their shadow, this is acceptable as well.
Local anesthetic
Scalpels of various sizes (or a ritual knife)
(any of the following tools may be left out or substituted, but failure to include them will increase the chances that the participant will not survive and at the very least will be very messy indeed)
Orbital Speculum
Superior rectus holding forceps
Desmarre's lid retractor
Tray for eyeball
Clamps to stop blood flow/Hot catuer
Gauze and other dressings

Apply anesthetic to human, clamp eye open and remove eyeball-- cutting the optic nerve-- and clamp vessels and arteries, or cauterize them shut.
Wash eye, sprinkle salt on it to cleanse it and present it Isitoq in whatever manner feels proper.
I present this eye: the sun, the holder of emotions, the evil eye, to Isitoq to purify the one who once held this eye... ect.

Place the eye in a small box and bury it in a graveyard. This symbolizes the death of the impurities the human once held.

The purpose of this ritual is threefold:

To appease Isitoq and ensure the sun goes down each night so that the circadian rhythms stay in place and the Shadows are able to come out-- in doing this we ally ourselves with the Shadows by giving them peace from the sun for a few hours each night. We also must ensure that the sun rises each morning so the humans have light for farming, crops, building, creating and other such activities.

To purify the human who once held this eye in their possession, so that they can cast off their own Shadow.

As a sacrifice for wisdom, as Odin gave up his eye for knowledge, so must we give up our eye(s) in order to finally see the Shadows in full, and not the wisps on the edges of our vision that drives so many of those in Mordred to inanity.

So they claim it's a good thing to keep the sun setting and rising, as well as to keep people sane. They don't seem nearly that benevolent, however.

But as far as I understand, you only need to sacrifice an eye in order to live in that town? So why have taken her against her will? Or is that even what they did? She fled to Mordred voluntarily, maybe she is willing to make the sacrifice? But again, where does SheWhoCrawls and HeWhoCreeps fit into all of this?

And if you have to sacrifice an eye to live in Mordred, they are gonna have hers eventually no matter what Mrshomersimpson does, and her brother and their mum too, for that sake.

Mrshomersimpson, can you negotiate a time extension? Ask for instructions on how to free yourself from your shadow and claim its taking time, or that you cant find the right equipment or something? Give us til sunday, at least?

So yea, there's some news.

Zardock, as everyone else in that town, has gone through the ritual and made the sacrifice. And he is indeed the father of Jon and Char. And he will finally share his research with us.

ShadowsRise will not tell me the purpose of the sacrifice.

Quote:
Me: You say we do not understand why Charlotte is so important to you, and you are right. We have not heard your side of this story. Why do you need the eyes of outsiders?
ShadowsRise: because all the others in this town have already made their sacrifices.
Me: Are you saying the eyes are just symbolic? You do not need them?
ShadowsRise: no, they serve a purpose.
Me: And what is that purpose?
ShadowsRise: That purpose must only be shared with those preforming the ritual and those participating in it.

Mrshomersimpson, could you please ask? I think perhaps it would be very good to know what they need the eyes for.

just catching up now, yes i shall ask right now!

This is it, this is where we make a stand
You and me, time to face this man to man
Can't you see we cannot go on
It's me against me again
I'm sick of the man I am within
Fighting me, making me fall down again
I commit, I'll commit your suicide
Now death will breath you in
Sitting here at my graveside I've never been so alive
You pulled the dead man out of me
I am not what I was, never again what I was
You pulled the dead man out of me
I buried you, you where nearly my demise
It's only by the grace of God that I survived
I admit I was wrong to let you in
Never come back again
I can see all the possibilities rising up
Now that you're not pulling me down
This is where I say goodbye
And put the last bullet between your eyes

Here we go. Showdown.
