Augh! *smackself*

So um, that picture of Peter Rabbit - http://felicityvelius.com/?p=45
You know, the JPG file that's 3.6MB in size... yeah, I did manage to find other places with the same image, but none the same size.

Don't know why I didn't think of looking for hidden files in the binary.

At the end-file JPG marker, there's an attached RAR file (ie, the RAR file was just appended to the JPG file). You can open the JPG in WinRAR without a problem. d'oh.

So yep, two more images and a PDF.

Puzzle! Doc#3.pdf

ETA: Also, Toenolla noticed that some letters had been scratched off the pen found in the Waco lockbox -- pic: http://yfrog.com/nz6vatyj
It should read: Wr(ite) Bro(s)
ETA2: THE PEN NOW WORKS!

Text of the documents:

Quote:
From: Li Qiaolian
To: Undisclosed
June 6 2012

-------:

I enjoyed our conversation at the Westfields last week. Though I can not speak on behalf of the PRC, my sources indicate that rare earth exports from mainland China should remain steady at least through Q1 of 2015. I can, with some confidence, assure you that the resources necessary for [redacted], including Sc, Pr, Nd and Pm should be available from --------- and --------- through the completion of the operation.

I have been asked on behalf of [redacted] for your assistance on a delicate matter. One of our assets - FLINTLIGHT - seems to have jumped ship. FLINTLIGHT has been burned, officially, however ----------- is concerned that FLINTLIGHT may be pursuing certain operations without the sanction of ----------- or -----------.

------------- is confident that you, in coordination with ------------, ---------- and [redacted] will be able to assist us with this delicate issue. ------------- has posted a sanitation order for FLINTLIGHT. Any of your assets in -----------, --------------, or ------------- are encouraged to address the issue with suitable caution and force. Your assistance in this matter would be appreciated and would be construed as a good faith offering in return for the raw materials needed for --------------.

To our continued success and collaboration,

Li Qiaolian

Sc, Pr, Nd and Pm are rare earth elements.

Interesting from that list, are these details:
Scandium - Light aluminium-scandium alloy for aerospace components, additive in Mercury-vapor lamps.
Praseodymium - Rare-earth magnets, lasers, core material for carbon arc lighting, colorant in glasses and enamels, additive in didymium glass used in welding goggles, ferrocerium firesteel (flint) products.
Neodymium - Rare-earth magnets, lasers, violet colors in glass and ceramics, ceramic capacitors
Promethium - Nuclear batteries

Also, PRC = People's Republic of China Razz
We now know who LQ is (the one who redacted names from the phone transcript)

The 2nd document names a new organization CION (any connection to anything yet?)
Quote:
Headquarters
Cion Central Command
------------

From CENTCOMASPAC
To: ACTIVE ASSETS
Subject: BURN NOTICE - FLINTLIGHT
********* Message Begins

The assets FLINTLIGHT has been deemed unreliable and dangerous to continued ---------- operations. FLINTLIGHT carries mission critical information concerning the following operations:

GUANO
TOEHEEL
GAGHAG
LEPROCHAUN
MIDAS

All active assets currently engaged in the previous operations are ordered to employ security protocols accordingly. FLINTLIGHT is considered an immediate threat to -------------. ------------ has authorized the use of any necessary force leading to the capture or liquidation of FLINTLIGHT. Any pertinent information on FLINTLIGHT's actions or whereabouts on or after May, 28, 2012, should be immediately conveyed to -------------.
********* End Message

The third document, the PDF, contains another cipher number series:

Quote:
22.93.7
20.60.8
17.76.3
25.37.8
8.36.7
20.59.8
20.60.7
19.108.4
19.112.7
19.117.2
34.108.10
34.94.1
30.2.3
26.80.5

And that 26 row (1 per letter?) 16 column grid. Caesar shift of some sort, after a book cipher?

Since there are elements in the text, and we were presented with something like a table, maybe it could be something like ATOMIC NUMBER-LINE-WORD from the Wiki article?

Well, there are 118 elements, and the 2nd number goes up to 117... but a typical cipher like this would be or hierarchy. The first number would be like an id to a collection of the 2nd number. (like chapter-line-word)

The 1st number goes up to 34, the 2nd to 117, the third to 10. What sort of hierarchy has a structure of similar sizes? Confused

25 lines, line 20 is missing (is that normal?).

That's all I can add to this conversation at this point. I'm looking at this thing and drawing a blank, atm.

Also, what's the number on the bottom right? 103?

Oh hey, good catch on 25 rows. d'oh Razz
Yeah, I'm thinking it's 103, or "/03" (document 3?)

I'm also still wondering if there's something hidden in the latest update
http://felicityvelius.com/?p=56
with the title image and MP3 clip.

I've done a spectrogram of the mp3, to no avail. The image looks in this instance like a typical jpg. hmph

Yeah the only thing I've noticed is the extra "t" in the mp3 filename...petter_rabbit3...not important I'm sure. Confused

huh, another good spot. coincidentally, "t" is the 20th letter of the alphabet. =P

I'll be doing more wiki updating today, getting text transcribed, images upp'd, etc.

I still think we're missing stuff.

Something's telling me there's some good production value behind this.

"Side bar" conversation follows (in spoiler so that you can skip it):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I could be wrong, but it appears to be dragging a bit more than the perception of "good production value" allows. Although, "kittens", especially "glittery kittens", do have a history of equaling a perfectly fine experience. I would just prefer a bit more action in my stories than this, seeing as how I am seriously horrible at puzzles.

That said, I am in awe of anyone who goes through the process of creating an experience and appreciate their efforts immensely, so if I sound like I am judging that is not my purpose. I'm just saying that I really want to enjoy this experience, so if you would be so kind as to solve these puzzles faster, that would be awesome (sarcasm implied).

Oh, and I also don't want this to end because we can't solve a stinkin' puzzle that probably took the PM one minute to create while solving the puzzles that took the PM hours to make in less than a minute.

That said, I really don't like coincidences. Don't believe in them, among most things (Santa Clause especially - I mean, seriously, all those toys in one night? I smell something funny. And, yes, I showered), but that's another story all together. So the 20th line missing and the extra 't' in the picture has to be connected. I'm just not putting two and two together yet so it's alluding me, atm.

I blame a wife and two kids for my current lack of brain function, but I'll try again later when I am at work and away from the chaos that is "family".

No worries, and I agree... a wrench may have been thrown in their plans however given the very late start... 'production value' may have been the wrong term to use =) I was thinking more along the lines of a fleshed out plotline. Not necessarily epic scope, but one with lots of potential, imo.

Aug 8 was the last update, so they're not really dead in the water, per se, but some kind of activity or nudge might be nice Razz *cough*
Maybe they overestimated the reach of Wikibruce Wink

I also work full time and have not been paying much attention to that, so my daytime activity may be less this week. But after-hours...

Let's get on this! heh

Well, I guess they took the nudge request to heart - tweet: "The message is in my first two blog posts. See how they look when you use the table letter for letter."

Well each of the first two blog posts have 416 letters which would fit perfectly in a 26 x 16 grid. So I wonder if the missing row 20 is a mistake. I've put the letters in the grid with and without row 20 and nothing has jumped out at me...but it's still early. I'll keep looking at it.

ah good catch. I looked at lines (both have 10, as on the site at least)

breaking the posts into 16 column chunks, we have

Not sure how the numbers apply, if they even do, as I'm not seeing a pattern parallel with the number ranges
Code:
22.93.7
30.60.8
17.76.3
25.37.8
 8.36.7
20.59.8

19.112.7
19.117.2
34.108.10
34.94.1
30.2.3
26.80.5

eta: fixed typo on second line of numbers to 30.60.8
