I sometimes do this. The way I see it, it's like squares and rectangles. The Operator is a version of Slenderman, but not every version of Slenderman is the Operator.

Take a drink every time someone uses an acronym/initialism/slang term that is so obscure or complicated that you don't understand it the first time you read it (TO for the Operator, OP for Operator when it should mean original poster, etc.)

Basically this. I try to use proper & semi-proper names whenever possible, but sometimes the difference is so damn small that it's just easier to give in. For example, I look like far less of a tool talking about "Hoodie" than I do "The Hooded Figure"
