Bah, bad timing, I've already got a trip scheduled for SF at the end of the month, can't spare the time/cash for two trips in the month. Sad

Let me emphasize Mazian's posts about SF. Heinous place to bring a car into unless you like dropping cash. If you don't have a friend who happens to have a parking spot to stash it, it can drain the bank account quickly! MUNI is fairly decent, and cheap, and occasionally entertaining. Smile Personally, I tend to now come in through Oakland and BART when I fly, or actually, even when I drive!

Have fun folks, wish I could make it up for this, but the timing just doesn't work for me. Let's hear some good accounts of the events!

Parking Charm

Of course, you can pay a lot for parking. The Fifth and Mission garage rates are:
0-1 Hrs $2.00
1-2 Hrs $4.00
2-3 Hrs $6.00
3-4 Hrs $8.00
4-5 Hrs $10.00
5-6 Hrs $13.00
6-7 Hrs $16.00
etc...

But, it isn't THAT dramatic. There are places you can park that don't cost an arm and a leg. A couple of blocks away is the Ellis-Ofarrell garage, for instance.
After 6 pm, the rates are:
0-1 Hrs. $2.00
1-2 Hrs. $3.00
2-3 Hrs. $4.00
3+ Hrs. $6.00

That is not much more than a typical BART ticket. Yes, I know there is the Bridge toll if you are coming from anywhere but the south, but still.
If I drive downtown, I usually find street parking because I have the parking karma. Smile

hmrpita- Gotta teach me the tricks! Smile Ah but I've pretty much settled nowadays into just taking BART into the city, much less headache overall for me (I tend to wee bits of the road rage Laughing )

Yay, party time!

I'll be up there on the 4th. I'll just tell my work I have another "apointment" and get off early. Did that back when the axons started, so it should work this time. ^_^

I'm still debating with myself as to if I really want to try to drive up there or just hit Caltrain. My new office has me not too far away from the San Mateo station.

Plus it would make sense to be in a movie theater, so we could have the live hookup to the other three cities on the movie screen at the same time. Damn.

or playing halo 2 on a movie theater screen. Shocked

now THAT would be a sight to see.

i'll be driving in most likely from the berkeley area, but probably go a little early just to avoid rush hour traffic. if someone needs a ride, pm me, and i'll see what i can do.

you know, haveing them playing on a movie screen may be the reason that it is being held on a thursday rather than a weekend. you would have alot of unhappy movie goers if you locked up several theater screens for a big lan party.

Okay. I sent a third message to Melissa. Hopefully she will not be angered at the multiple messages (I want to go/I can't go/I want to go) and smite me. I can reschedule the dentist, but not the 4th & Mission axon.

Halo 2 may be beyond me, but like I said to hmrpita, I can run around saying ilovebeesilovebees to strangers and fetch snacks for the crew. Very Happy

I'm sure they'll have snack runners available so we'll all have more time to talk to strangers.

Confirmation emails are going out, I'm officially going. Woo Hoo!

I'm thinking about parking my car at the Alameda ferry terminal (free parking) and taking the ferry in. The ferry is $5.50 one way, but if you buy a book of tickets, the cost per ticket goes down. We could probably coordinate a bunch of people and all split the cost of a ticket book and bring down the cost of a ticket.

If we get 5 people together, a 10 ticket book costs $45, so the round trip price would be $9. There would be a walk from the ferry terminal to the event involved, but after answering all those phones, I don't think a walk would discourage anyone (unless it was really raining heavily). $9 is a decent deal, considering there's no parking fee. There's street parking not too far away if the lot's full, we could set up an ad hoc shuttle service or something if necessary. There's usually space available in the lot though.

Is there a huge grin on my face, or what.

I'm thinking BART from Berkeley, but carpool could be appealing.

confirmed

Yea! Got my confirmation too. No special note, though, like you got missphinx! That's wicked. Smile

It's fun to see all the planning and scheming everyone is doing regarding getting here via public transportation or carpooling. For those of you paying top dollar to fly out here--if I was wearing a hat, it would be off to you. I am lucky enough to be only a streetcar ride away myself.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of the mysterious people (i.e., the ones I haven't already met axon hunting)!

The full lunar eclipse tonight was beautiful. I caught quite a few glimpses of it before the fog rolled in.

Ok two things:

1. If I remember correctly Micro$oft has a store in the metreon. Yeah, the PS2 competes with the Xbox, but Sony also makes a bunch of desktop and laptop PeeCees with Windows XP preinstalled. Go figure. Smile They also have a pretty big arcade and TechTV (before Comcast bought them and whored them into what they are now) used to film Xtended Play (what now has become X-Play) in the Metreon also.

2. I got a confirmation from Melissa! w00t!

Congratulations. Your name has been added to the admission list for the San Francisco training event.

w00t! I've already secured a ride, so I'll see you all there. Assuming we can piece together where, specifically, "there" is. I'm looking forward to meeting the other beekeepers more than the actual Halo. Anyways, when you get there, look for this man and I'll teach ya some Samesian.

Wort wort! I just recieved my confirmation email as well.

Does anyone know the name of the building we are going to?

And does anyone know what exactly we are going to be doing? I'm assuming multiplayer over Live, but I don't want to get my hopes up. (If I do, my heart might just give out.) Shocked
