Email from Phyllis-Blistering indictment

Sunny,
I suppose you've heard about what happened. Indeed, reading your last email I
cannot avoid thinking that you KNEW I was going to be molested in my own home
and robbed of my most valuable assets! The manuscript page, the hidden
painting, all of it – gone! You wrote: "I can connect you with an individual
that has another page of the manuscript." Oh, can you really?! Is his "someone"
a friend of yours? Are you, and all the others who have pestered me about the
manuscript, part of some gang of thieves that go about preying on defenseless
women?! I am hurt, wounded to my core! I foolishly thought you actually liked
me, that you wanted to be my friend. I should have known better. Everyone that
has ever been nice to me has just wanted to take advantage of me, to deceive
and manipulate and get something for nothing. Why does this happen to me?! What
have I done to deserve such abusive treatment?! You KNEW and you didn't WARN
me! If I am wrong and you are sincerely trying to be my friend, then you will
help me and tell me everything you know about these felons.

Phyllis

My reply to phyliss' umbrage

Dear Phyllis:

First of all let me say how dismayed I am from all that has occurred. I have been away visiting my ailing mother and I come back to find that not only have you been attacked but you have also accused me of being an accomplice in this thievery.
I am grieved to the core to be aligned with such a dastardly act!!
I definitely am not in the habit of socializing with criminal ruffians and truly resent the implication that I do. In fact it makes me question my friendship with you as well.
I will say this though. I can truly understand why you would feel the way that you do, what with all the things that have happened to you and why you would question my veracity. It is all so very shocking.
Just to let you know my contact that was interested with your lost treasure is a tenured Professor at one of the finest Universities in England and would hardly resort to theft to get an item.
Phyllis, I only saw a brief glimpse of his page but it looked similar to yours, it had the same motif and everything. I am hardly a Renaissance scholar afterall and cannot be a 100% sure but the Professor seemed rather interested when I told him about your page and he mumbled something about it being one of the missing pieces he was looking for. Then he said something that stuck in my mind. He said that he hoped that he would be able to purchase it and get it to safety before THEY got it!
I have absolutely no idea who he meant by THEY but he refused to discuss it. I definitely heard a hint of fear in his voice. That is all I know at this point. I will do my best to see if I cant get anymore information from my friend. Just to warn you though he is as stubborn as an ox when he chooses not to divulge information.
Phyllis did you see the miscreants that molested you? Do you have any idea who could have done this to you? There have been so many people going in and out of your store and with the high profile of the Internet and the manuscript page posted on it, no telling what kind of Cretans could have perpetrated this heinous crime.
You did not deserve to have this happen to you. It would be a good idea to put some security measures in place at the Hollow Needle in the future although it is much like shutting the barn door after the cow has gotten out. I was hoping you would after hearing of the pilfering that had been going on at the Needle but did not want to be presumptuous in suggesting it.
I just want to tell you how heavy my heart is that this occurred to you. I sincerely pray that you are well. I hope that you will heal from this traumatic incident and that you recover your precious manuscript. I also hope that the criminals that did this to you will get their just reward and be punished to the full extent of the law.
I hope that we can put this behind us and continue our friendship. If there is anything I can do to help you please do not hesitate to ask.

Sincerely,
Sunny

Kudos

Valas and Kimer were great as Jim Morrison in that Doors movie that Oliver Stone made.

Just wanted to point that out.

Phyllis' apologetic reply

Dear Sunny,
I'm sorry I lashed out at you. I just don't know who to trust anymore. You want
to know why the "Floating Maiden" makes me queasy? It's not the object itself.
As it sits upon a tabletop, it's just a whimsical little candy dish. Sometimes
I squint my eyes at her and wonder if she's lying down, floating on water or
upright, dancing on her toes. No, what makes me nervous is seeing her on my web
site, just hanging on white nothingness. I am feeling like that, like I'm being
blown by an invisible wind in a bright white void. All the landmarks, all the
parts of my life that I thought were solid and reliable, seem to be
disappearing into a fog of confusion and insecurity. I ask myself, when did
this start, when did everything start to fall apart? And the answer is, when
Diana died.

She was such a beautiful person, she had it all, intelligence, education,
social conscience, and a kind of patrician quality I like to think I possess. I
used to have these little dinner parties and the Sprague's were on my A-list.
There was a glow about them, their youth, their vitality, their creativity was
infectious and delightful. Then, Diana died so horribly and just days later
there was Dale in my shop, acting like a wild man! He physically wrestled with
me over that cursed manuscript page! He was raving, I tell you, and his eyes
were blazing with madness. It frightened me badly; it shook everything I
thought I had known about him and called my previous judgment of him into
question.

Then, the graffiti appeared on our home and it did not help one bit that it
appeared all over town. I felt personally branded by it. I love our home so
much and have worked so hard to restore it to it's original beauty. I have
striven to create an atmosphere of genteel charm and understated elegance. That
graffiti was a slap in the face to me. It felt like some demon from chaos had
come to mark the order I had created for destruction. It has been erased from
the building but not from my mind.

And then the evening of the burglary, there was Sam acting just the way Dale
had acted! Little scatter-brained, mild-mannered Sam yelling at me, clenching
his fists and jerking away like he feared he would strike me. I thought, what
is happening in this town? Are people going crazy?! Or am I losing MY mind?! I
couldn't sleep; I could not settle; my nerves I were so shaken. So, I went
downstairs that night to fix myself a little toddie.

Douglas keeps badgering me to say what the felon looked like: Was he tall or
short, bulky or slight? And, I wail, I don't know, I don't know! I'm not even
sure there was only one. I saw something move in the darkness of the shop and
then it was upon me like a wall of blackness. It struck me! And I awoke in the
hospital where they could not find a mark on me! Did I faint? I don't know. It
felt like something knocked the breath out of me, like a physical blow. Oh,
Sunny, am I losing my mind?!

Who could have done this? Dale and Sam obviously wanted the page and were
willing to commit violence to get it. But, I just don't want to believe it. It
would mean everyone has been wearing false faces of civility while underneath,
crudeness and cruelty have lurked. And then, there is this professor you
mentioned. I'm not implicating you, dear Sunny, but, I have to ask, is his name
Penrose? You see, an Englishman has been trying to buy the page from me and he
certainly seemed like a scholarly type in his emails. He came off a bit pompous
and grandly said, "Name your price" like money was no object for him. So, I
replied with a reasonable figure for a document that could be several hundred
years old. Then, after taking his time, he replied with a tone of outrage as
though I had offended him. It was absurd in a way. Buyers generally come back
with a counter offer and you dicker a bit until you both feel like you've
gotten a good price. But, instead, he wrote, "I'll NEVER pay you such a price.
You'll see, I'm not a man without resources." Well, I wonder, whatever did he
mean by that? And why behave so irrationally? Why not counter-offer instead of
getting all huffy? If this is the same man, then, perhaps, THEY got into his
head like THEY have affected Dale and Sam. And THEY are getting into my mind,
too!

Oh my goodness! That sounds so completely paranoid, so utterly over-the-top, I
can't believe I just wrote it. But, you know, I can't remember which comedian
said it, but, it's not paranoia when they are REALLY out to get you. Oh my, I'm
laughing now. Once again, you've brought some sunshine into my life. I hope you
can forgive me for doubting your sincerity.

Phyllis

Ooooh. Correct her grammar!

Tell her it's "WHOM to trust anymore." Twisted Evil

Maybe she'll blow her top again and then get all weepy and confessional.

It worked once before...
