@Adm_BlackCat: Was all of that today? (Also, you may be TOO good of a citizen! Twisted Evil) If so, I has a sad. Sad I haven't received a reply yet.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Maybe the puppet master thought that I believed the job offer was real? I put "Earth military," not a specific country... you'd think that the PM would have caught on to that. Sad

/sigh. I'll be patient. Sad

I wonder what happens to the citizens that know something is going on but don't report it. Nothing good, I'd imagine. Confused

@zzaryn the emails & replies were from late afternoon Friday. I was really just seeing what kind of response they would provide, specifically for ratting out Mr. Hale. And hopefully to get more info on all this from the "good citizen" angle.

But really, I just want to go off-world and Atlas is good enough!

Adm_BlackCat - You Machiavellian sonova... You weren't supposed to throw him under the bus! Laughing

Oh well, it's not like Horizon wouldn't have noticed since they are losing money. Wink

The rebellion has off on weekends and holidays.
That makes me laugh.

It's been a number of years since I've been to unfiction yet someone apparently still has my contact info and I too received the recent Horizon email and made the call.

I've read the entire 17 page thread.

It may be that my limited (and long ago) experience with ARGs is coloring my opinion, but, this seems to me to be starting off quite strongly, with a nice pace and depth of storytelling. I'm uncertain if I want to make the adjustments to my life to take part in an entire summer/fall event but (and it may be wishful thinking) it feels like this may be a "big one".

So, if any of you has the time, can you give me your impressions so far? Is this starting off stronger than the current crop of grass root efforts? Does anything strike you as above average at this point? And, do you also get the feeling, and why, that this may be a "big one"?

Thanks

First off, welcome back!

Second, It's definitely not a game that you can play alone (as I have been attempting to do, merely to get my feet wetter, quicker). For instance, I did not get the e-mail for "Horizon Industries" and "Richard Kai" never got back to my initial e-mail.

That said, I've been a lurker for the most part and I would have to agree that this does appear to be getting off at a good click. I would not say it's "better", I don't like to use that word since most "grass root" PM's are still learning exactly how these things go. I will say it looks like it's being run by someone with a couple of games under their belts though.

This has potential...and I hope it does become a big one...but I'm cautious. The past two ARGs I have played started off excellent, then died out when the going got good. This one has great interaction with the others. I had a great conversation going with Richard Kai, and then was offline for a few days with a head cold.so, I haven't had a chance to resume my conversation.
This is still fairly new to decide anything. Give it a few weeks to see what happens..

Just got a response from Akamu (below). In my previous email I asked him if he thought I should apply to Horizon.

S*****,

I'm sure you won't receive this until the morning, but I do tend to do my best thinking late at night, and in a time like this, staring out at the stars on a natural night knowing that all of you on Earth are looking at the same night sky.

It helps me collect my thoughts.

I have been under the impression for many years that Horizon did not often go outside of their own talent pool to fill positions. I'm curious as to why they are considering doing so now.

I believe it could be advantageous to have someone on the inside. It is your call, as it may be extremely dangerous.

I hope I am not bothering you by contacting you this late, please do not feel obligated to respond, the morning comes soon.

Stay strong, S*****.

I pretty much got the same email, too. Well, with the same message anyways. Other than that, nothing new.

@AngriBuddhist: It did start out fairly strong, and while there are lulls in between content, they give us enough to keep us milling about until the next portion is revealed. I'm loving the story thus far - the whole sci-fi feel to it is something I personally enjoy very strongly. And it is starting out much stronger than most of the games out now, but as was mentioned before, this feels more like it's being done by professionals. To what extent, I don't know - I see no ties between this and any big-name events (movies, games, books, etc.) so I doubt if this turns into a painfully long event. I'm hoping for a few months, but I guess we'll see.

Hello again, friend.

Now this information, I am not surprised by your lack of insight. I myself lack the experience to truly understand, but conditions outside of the city walls have been poor for far more than sixteen years, so word has traveled far.

I know that Horizon limits contact from those within and outside of the walls, but I am, again, upset to find out I am correct. Did you know that the Earth was once lush and green? I would be surprised if Horizon teaches you how beautiful your planet once was, but it is true.

Outside of the city walls, the structure of society breaks down. There is no law, no reason. There is nothing wrong with them. What  you would see is the most raw form of human survival, stripped down to it's very essence, where moral codes are thrown aside to live one more day. The desert is a harsh place. As bad as things are inside of the city districts, outside is even worse.

You speak of the 2260 revolution as if it were an attempt against your people. Once again, I am not surprised that Horizon has twisted this tale into something it is not.

@bubbleboy - thanks for the welcome

@Distraction - I may have to join in for awhile at least. See below.

@Korinthian - Yeah. I ran the dates that have been collected so far and couldn't find any connection to anything upcoming.

My first thoughts, about connections, we're things like Ender's Game, Fallout and some similar dates to Babylon 5. Ender's Game has some dates that would totally fit and the others have some items of notice. One thing they all have in common, varying from full on to mentioned in passing is aliens, so, I emailed Akamu this...

(note: I'm much older than 12)

Quote:

Hello Mr. Akamu Hale,

I'm 12 years old. All my life, what i can remember, I lived outside of the Wall of New York. I met people. Some were nice. Most were bad. I stayed out of Horizon's sight.

A year ago, I was trapped between many Horizon patrols for many days. I stayed hidden but couldn't make my way through. I had no food and could no longer find the energy to move. I knew it was over.

I have strange memories of a man, of moving, of a room. That man is Honda. He's very old. He's very smart. He's kind of crazy. And very nice when he's himself. He hid me and took me inside the Wall.

I have to hide always but he has a secret library and has taught me to read. The books are very old, mostly from the 2000's but he tells me stories about Horizon, space, ghosts and aliens.

Sometimes he talks to himself and even to someone else that isn't really there, I think. Sometimes he talks like all of us should be glad Horizon is here, to protect us from the aliens. That makes me scared.

He got all excited recently, talking about help against Horizon coming and trying to find, what was it, the Underground?

Mr. Akamu, if you come and save us from Horizon, can you protect us from the aliens too? Honda says aliens all want to eat us. Is that true? Aren't there any nice aliens?

Viird

Minutes later I received this...

Quote:
Hello friend. Your age has kept you from seeing things many times worse, but no one at your age should see the things you have seen. Use your experience to your advantage. You may be young, but you have been through more in your life than most men.

Your friend Honda sounds like a very nice man. I am very happy to hear that he has taught you to read. I also enjoy reading. I have a very large library with many books from the pre-expansion era. They just don't write them like they used to, do they?

While Honda does sound like a good man, I regret to inform you that he may need some sort of medication. While his thoughts on Horizon are dangerous, his views on alien life are, well, not correct.

Of the many planets we have discovered, young Viird, we have not discovered any intelligent alien life. Yes, animals and plant life have been found in abundance, but the quest to find intelligent life on another world has yet to be fulfilled.

- Akamu

I emailed again with no response yet, but, we can totally rule out any sort of storyline that includes any race other than human, at least, of course, until they show up. Very Happy

I've also been in contact with Mr. Hale. Not too much new to report on just yet. Just trying to help him help us with the whole Horizon problem.

Not that it's really anything new, but, Hale let on to some other motives:

Quote:
We will see what the information from my contact on Centauri brings. Then, we will decide how to go about accomplishing our two goals. How to use this Atlas position to our advantage, and how to get in touch with the group behind the 2260 revolution without alerting Horizon's communications security.

Wow, Hale is messaging back pretty late this evening.
I wonder when we'll actually get some back story so that we understand what exactly is going on.
